The Bulls are a mess. And I held out hope for awhile with AK but it's a wrap. Says he's going to make changes but I think he only meant with the coaching staff until he shows something different. Anything other than omoving 2 of the big 3 is a huge disappointment. If he doesn't move Lonzo as an expiring contract is a letdown. Bringing Billy D back is a letdown.
It's obvious that they aren't trying to win. They refused to make moves the past 2 years (in spite of receiving salary for Ball's injury) when Ball was ruled out because they didn’t want to pay the luxury tax. For years they have pushed nonsense regarding "paying the luxury tax if they had a deal that could put them over the top" Whatever the hell that means. In the 25-30 years that the luxury tax system has been in place, the Bulls have only paid into once. That demonstrates what their willingness to win happens to be.
NBC Sports Chicago has a new article today on the Bulls that implies that AK is serious about meaningful change, but there's no new information on what that could mean other than what we already know.
They do seem content with just competing. If management did prevent him from moving Caruso at the deadline, AK should have resigned. I know these jobs are tough to get so I understand why he wouldn't have, but what's the point if he can't make decisions that the rest of us would expect? He did make much more pointed comments about real change at the end of the season so maybe he's now free to do other moves that shake up the roster, but, to me, any team that returns DeMar is not really serious about making meaningful changes.
It still feels like their primary objective is to move Zach for some salary relief to then resign DeMar and Patrick Williams.
If he would have moved Demar during the 22-23 season at the deadline he could have received a solid return for him. A season and a half-2 later and now 35, I doubt it. He's just going to have to let him roll for nothing. Maybe a sign and trade. I hope he doesn't resign him under any circumstances. They probably will in the hope that they can move him at the deadline. Problem with that is that it will be only to a contender for junk or bad draft picks. Let him roll now and move on.
With Zach it's going to be tough because they have overvalue Zach. Both in salary and trade market. Their asking price (2 No.1s and a starting caliber player) is a pipe dream. At best with that salary you're only going to recieve a starter and a bench guy who makes the salaries work and nothing else.
They should move the Paw. If he amounts to anything worthwhile it won't be with Billy D as coach. He's completely screwed the kid up. Hope he isn't completely ruined by all ofvthe jerking around and pandering to the vets that Billy D does.
And lastly nothing improves until Billy D I'd shitcanned. The Bulls roster wasn't that bad the last couple of season. Not contending level but definitely 5-6 seed level good in the East.
