Quarterback Caleb Williams once again made quick decisions in 7-on-7, going 4-for-5 with completions to running back D'Andre Swift, tight end Cole Kmet, wide receiver Tyler Scott, and receiver Freddie Swain.

Williams' lone incompletion came when he tried to hit Scott on a go route up the right sideline. Scott was well covered by cornerback Jaylon Johnson, and Williams' pass sailed out of bounds.

The Williams-Scott combination bounced back two plays later with the offensive play of the day.

Williams dropped back and saw Scott had a step on cornerback Kyler Gordon working deep down the left side. The rookie quarterback laid a perfectly thrown ball right on the money 30 yards down the field for a big gain.

While the offense got the better of the defense in the 7-on-7 period, the defense once again won the day in the two-minute drill.

During the Fields era, at this point in camp the ball was mostly on the ground, if I recall......

Cant wait for all the 7 on 7’s where Williams
hits a wide open receiver as evidence that “
OMG he’s gonna light it UP !!! “

I'm fairly certain Fields was missing wide open receivers in 7 on 7s

I'm fairly certain Fields was missing wide open receivers in 7 on 7s
July 2023...
In a session that was moved into the Walter Payton Center due to poor air quality, Fields threw pinpoint passes that were caught by DJ Moore, Darnell Mooney, Chase Claypool, Equanimeous St. Brown, Tyler Scott and Cole Kmet, among others.

"Some real nice throws out there from Justin," said coach Matt Eberflus. "Real good there in terms of the rhythm and timing of that. Looked good for the first day. Boy, you can tell they've been working together a little bit in the offseason together."

Fields' best throw may have been a dart down the right sideline for a touchdown to Moore, who beat tight coverage. The third-year quarterback also connected on accurate throws over the middle to Kmet and St. Brown on back-to-back snaps.

August 2023...
When the Bears worked 7-on-7 drills in the red zone Thursday night, Eberflus noted that Fields finished 8-of-8 with 4 touchdowns.

Eberflus saw that work as indicative of how effective Fields can be if the Bears’ offense functions as one.

“That was excellent,” Eberflus said.

the 1st overall pick might be better than pittsburgh's backup QB. Good to see the bar is being set high

Depends how much each offensive unit gets paid.

I don't think Fields excelled at 7 on 7s until his third year. His first two seasons were disastrous. Even 7 on 7s in OTAs when he was entering his third season were inconsistent. That's why a guy like Hoge, who had been a leading Fields advocate, started to sound the alarm. So it's somewhat reassuring to hear Hoge say that Williams is way ahead of Fields in a few areas based on his 7 on 7 performances thus far.

His release, accuracy, pocket presence, and overall understanding of the game seem far superior to those of Fields.

I was listening to Pat the Designer's podcast today. Few people blew Fields more. He sounds like he's been converted.

Inaccurate. I'm told that Jordan Love wears women's clothes at home, too.
