It's really quite damning that Jed gave that contract to a guy with a career OPS+ of 94. At this point the Cubs would take 94 (it's currently at 75).

What happened? Did the Brewers break a record tonight? Is it broken? Did they break one?

Lester will never be a good broadcaster.

1. Sounds like he doesn't want to be there.

2. Sounds bored and/or tired. Monotone voice. Makes the listener feel depressed. Very little joy or happiness expressed.

3. Doesn't really want to talk much. His two partners have to prod him or else he'd never say a word. Talking is kind of a necessity as a broadcaster. And Lester doesn't want to talk.

4. He's acting like he's a guest instead of this being his job.

good takes.

i wonder what his opinion will be about angry pitchers questioning the home plate ump. on days he didn't have command and/or stuff, was the biggest whiner and beggar i ever saw. 3-4 inches off the plate and he's eye-fucking the home plate ump because the pitch was called a ball.

Reminds me of the trivia question of which brother tandem had the most homers and it was the Aarons: Hank with 754 and Tommie with 13.

Cubs are scoring 20% less runs per game than last year.

It is typical Cub fan however to take a way over performing bunch last year and change virtually nothing then expect to do better this year. Oh I forgot new manager.

Dan Bernstein has long argued that managers do not matter to wins or losses. That changed when TLR was hired by the White Sox. Then they did matter.

Bernstein recently was citing some metric saying that the White Sox were actually 8 games worse than their expected W/L record and was amazed by that. He wasn't sure whether to say that was bad luck, bad managing, etc. When you have one of the worst records in baseball history, why would you expect a metric to not say that you should more wins? After all, the White Sox really can't play much worse than they are already doing. That's sort of common sense.

Back to the Cubs....I've also heard him and Holmes say how far ahead of the game Counsell is. He's much smarter than any other manager, probably the best manager in the game. I also hear that the Cubs need to spend, spend and keep spending in order to be elite. It's very difficult to know what difference Counsell actually makes if he is as great as he is being labeled as, yet the team is regressing under his watch OR the players matter a lot more than a manager and you can't outcoach a team that doesn't have enough talent.

Working the order counter, drive thru and fryer doesn't count as 3 jobs.

It doesn't feel as bad as being down 200 runs on the season tho.

it wasn't in the cards when at 0-0 in the 6th, i believe - cubs had 2nd and 3rd with no one out and couldn't score. not the first time this has occurred and this was going on last year during the sept. collapse.

no doubt that it's time for suzuki to vacate RF. ever since atlanta, sept. 2023....almost an incompetant RFer, and this is someone who won gold gloves in japan. his throwing even went to shit this year, then righted the ship with a few assists in a few games. just can't judge fly balls at twilight/night.

awkward fielder, awkward slider into bases and at times, batter. like a 1980s european playing basketball, it's rough on an american's eyes.

that's suzuki, much of the rest of the team deserves more criticism - especially from the hitting angle.

Cubs season saved by boneheaded baserunning by Witt and the home plate ump. Called ball after ball in the 7th that were actually strikes, leading to a walk to Swanson and grand slam by Wisdom. The automated strike zone can't come soon enough.
