Usually a neckbeard does a decent job at hiding the weak jawline and double chin, yet he is the exception.

Yep. Mitch wants to undo what deCastro did and ceremoniously bring back his hand-picked choice to take over afternoon drive.

the same hand-picked That had terrible ratings?

Who in the hell thinks that Jason Goff deserved some kind of ceremony to send him on his way after he torched the afternoon drive ratings?

I'm guessing that's Goff's friend Jeff Agrest who puffed that up. It's like "tragically murdered." No one's comedically murdered. Well, that's probably not true.

Pre Penn State Bernstein would have been interesting doing television. He's mostly bad and coasting to retirement now.

There was a division of labor on the show, yeah, what's your point? Mine is that Jason did something to heavily impact the ratings in a negative way, irrespective of what his co-host was doing. He fought with callers, texters, People On Twitter, and impugned them as racists nearly every week, even trying to do the same for large swaths of Chicago team fanbases. He routinely engaged in deep cut conversations about regional NBA action that fell obviously flat with listeners. Sure, he did that in concert with someone else as a willing co-host, but he still did all of it, and those things impacted the ratings.

If you want to say that Jason and Dan were punished unequally, then yeah, you're right, they were. And to read between the lines of what Jason said, either Dan threw him under the bus to DeCastro or DeCastro decided to bus-toss Jason despite knowing the kind of show he and Dan would put on when paired together. Again, though, what's your point?

Jason was the one who told people to turn the dial and shocker, they did.

I like the idea of Chelios and/or Roenick doing afternoon drive! Bernstein and Larry would implode!

The previous likable Goff turned into a tool. If you even insinuated that you did not like the NBA or preferred college ball, you were a racist. And instead of learning from his mistakes he dug in and got bitter.

I have said this before, but for folks who like sports, it would be a tough existence to be racist given the percentage of pro athletes that come from minority communities. Sure many will cheer for the one white NBA player on the floor, but if you were truly racist, you would not watch the NBA or NFL.

Parkins being gone should be much happier news than it is - unfortunately there is a 100% guarantee that Mitch will construct yet another shitty lineup. Rumor that Goff could be coming back is the first sign that this is a lock.

Hope the national audience enjoys his "epic takes" and stoner laugh - good riddance, Sparkins.

With drive time unsettled, and Spiegel needing to find the right partner, many see the brand’s best move being to move the midday show with Dan Bernstein and Laurence Holmes to afternoons. Bernstein has had success in that timeslot before. Holmes’ energy and likability have also been a hit for years with Chicago sports fans.

"Yeah, I found this one message board for Chicago sports fans, it was right there in the name and everything, and they talked about the guy every day!"

That's simply not true. Had a grandfather that loved W.Payton and the 85 Bears but wanted nothing to do with basketball because, well I won't say what he called them. 8yr old Juiced lost all respect for his grandpa that day.

In my experience there are two kinds of racist people. One can flip a switch and root for a player on their favorite team. Say hi on the street to a random person and then talk behind their back when they are far enough away not to hear. I call those closet racists. The other kind don't give a fck and let you know it.

If there's anyone who needs a solo show (or podcast that he currently has) it's Goff. That guy thinks he's a one-man show, interrupting any conversation with his dumb takes/laughing. He is pretty brutal though, only rivals Holmes/Bernstein for bad social/political takes. Maybe put them all together in one show and let them call everyone names with tons of fake laughter and important takes on society.

I agree with this. Racists have no problem rooting for minority players as long as they are successful and play "the right way". God forbid they celebrate, hold out or speak their minds.

You're not going to find new voices willing to do it? This isn't the 1990s where you have some up and coming sports talkers in small markets. Those stations all went nationally syndicated in content.

Anyone in Chicago with the skillset to be entertaining and quick thinking in front of a microphone probably already earns more in a comfortable white collar job than they could in a dying industry where your most likely outcome is fired with no job prospects within 24 months.

The old days of when Mac said he didn't roll out of bed for less than $300k (or was it more?) are dead, buried, and never coming back.

Agreed. Seems bringing in Parkins was a good move so maybe they will consider doing something similar again? That is why, of the options presented, #5 makes the most sense to me.

Quote:
#5: Rosen isn’t likely to bet on a longshot but if he wants to, he has options. Before Parkins and Spiegel reunited, Danny went through an on-air search for his next partner. Many talented people with Chicago ties came through the door. One even fared well who had outside the market experience, and a prior connection to Parkins. Maybe they weren’t the right fit then, but could they be now?

Is Rhamie even still on the night shift or fill in staff. He could easily slide into one of the spots and be fine. He has worked everywhere but is a Chicago fan at heart. Sparky is not getting it. He is a pro and a hustler but absolutely no on gives a flying fuck about the Bucks outside of a fraction of Milwaukee which seems to be all he wanted to talk about the last few years of his old gig.

How about Dan and Jules?
