Love was exponentially better than Fields last season, Fields wishes he could have a year like Love. 3 fumbles in less than 2 preseason games is not good.

Fields was a polarizing character as the Bears starting quarterback, and according to NFL writer Tyler Dunne, at least one Chicago coach was highly critical of Fields:

I'm not discrediting anyone. I've watched every game Fields has played in the NFL. Unless somehow he changes dramatically, I'm pretty sure I know who he is. And so far, in the preseason, he hasn't changed and looks exactly like the guy who couldn't get it done. I'm sure at the end of the season, you'll blame his offensive line, and/or the coaching. But Fields isn't the guy.


Honestly if you want the man to succeed, make him a running back. Run a direct snap from time to time, wildcat... so on and so forth. That might get it done.

But he's the same guy. One slower than needed read, looks to run too fast, doesn't read coverage. It's the same thing. We've all seen this before.

Unlike Hawg I knew which play that happened to be. And it's just the sort of play that Louis Riddick was referencing with respect to Justin Fields. It's silly to consider a play like that to be a "fumble". Even sillier to blame Fields for said "fumble".

Fumble, I believe, or else he'd be penalized for an illegal forward pass. The rest is semantics. Every QB gets the ball knocked out of his hand at some point or points in the season, but it is a fumble. And he has 3 so far in preseason. Even if NONE of them are his fault, it goes with the territory. Every QB is in the same territory, and it's a fact Fields is more fumbly than anybody in the territory.

No coach would blame a QB for "fumbling" on that play even if you believe that it was a "fumble".
