I would much rather listen to Murph’s corny segments (Thin Books, I PREDICT, etc) and him ripping the Cubs a new one every day, than listen to Bernstein carry water for Craig Counsell. Some of that change is due to becoming partners with the Cubs and part is losing the more colorful hosts.

There were countless times I would sit in my driveway in the car after work listening to the HFC because it was so entertaining and I didn’t want to miss a segment. Haven’t felt that way in decades.

Hell, I’d take Hampton over Herron, or Tommy Williams (RIP) over Goff.

a few weeks ago, daniel from deerfield hit the brakes on counsell. loho seemed a bit stunned, dan insisted that the sample size is still too small - so, still time for counsell to win him over completely. dan is carrying water for happ and his .230 average. not a bad thing to say during happ's and co. offensive slumber from may to july, when the cubs couldn't score more than 13 runs a week and hit themselves into last place. to be fair, happ has picked it up since july, it's too late. enjoy the coffee and the dan's and loho's ass-kissing once a week.

no doubt, nico is a terrific fielding 2nd baseman and if he can get on base, can get you a stolen base or two. he is an absolute disaster hitting and the defensive numbers lift up his offensive numbers and daniel from deerfield only talks war, when he assesses hoerner. not batting average or slugging or HRs, but war. nico may be in the bottom 6-7 2nd basemen in all off MLB in regards to offensive stats. by the way, nico does a radio show in the afternoon, i believe. ahhh..ok.

as a cub fan, i also liked murph when the score started. enjoyed his cubs rants...only got to enjoy them for 45 mins or so in the early days, as murph had to sign off at sunset. the pioneer was swirsky, who had the balls to stand up wrigley and bob kennedy.

I don't know if anyone saw, but Audacy just blew up their lineup at WEEI. I think it's probably a good time for 670 to consider the same.

It's two weeks before NFL goes live. Not a chance. They have good ratings, so far as radio ratings can be 'good'.

I really think they're going to make the mistake of bringing Goff back and then they'll wonder why they're losing when Waddle & Silvy take the #1 spot, just as they did last time. Heck with the Bears about to take their throne, 670 would have problems anyways going against them because that's a show that has credibility when talking football.

All the ads will be sold. Nobody is switching because Goff is here. It's kick the can down the road time. Worry about it in February because that's when it's time to worry about it.

They'll sell ads, they just won't get the same dollar amount for it.

If they are really in financial trouble I am surprised they are filling that spot at all and not just shuffling around people to other spots and not adding any salary.

They're still working through their bankruptcy

It'll be Goff and Meatpants in afternoons probably, as they have history as a pairing and a modicum of success ratings-wise. I shudder to think what kind of show Goff, after being anointed by Mitch and once again falling up stairs, is liable to create in this "Politics IS sports" post-BLM world we live in, but then again maybe Meatpants not watching basketball all that much will keep the national NBA talk in check. And hey, at least the guy watches college football.

Moneyball the book or the movie? Because the book was '03, I started listening '06, and I don't remember him being that into sabermetrics for a while.

The book, but my use of "once" is a bit of an anachronism, I suppose, as I started really listening around the time you did (I've only pieced together the B&B midday success through cave drawings and such) and as I recall Dan was in the early stages of the one-dimensional, OBP-centric stat nerdiness that threw fuel on the fire of his hatred of Hawk. Then a few years later when Baseball Prospectus came online he got militant about it all.

As I said, every baseball thought he ever had was just stolen from Joe Sheehan

I thought that Parkins, and even Meat when they were together, were easy to flip on and listen to regardless of topic. There is nothing comfortable, relaxing or easy about listening to Goff since he left his producing role with B and B. Mitch is spot on though, replacing a guy with enough national appeal to get a major national gig with a guy with narrow podcast appeal is definitely going to make the ratings soar. Maybe Mitch knows the end is near and just doesn't care who goes down with the ship that is going down anyways. He certainly gave zero fucks about turning the station in Milwaukee into wall to wall Bucks coverage until it closed.

Any shakeup will be failure proof. Bears talk will be lifting all boats and it should be of strong interest all the way through April.

how old is he? Someone seems to have scrubbed it from these here internets.

43, if my napkin math is correct (graduated high school in 99, did a year at Carbondale, started at the Score in 2000).

Is it though? In a radio GM's eyes? Pay off contracts, get new contracts. In a bankrupt company?

You would think that is the case, but you're forgetting that this is Goff and if it's November and the Bears are about to play the Lions on Thanksgiving, he'll still find a way to spend more time on out of town basketball and get people running up the dial to Waddle & Silvy. This is literally what happened last time and why DeCastro fired him.

As one poster noted, WEEI is going through a shakeup as did WFAN when Carton left. By the way, Carton is a recovering gambling addict and will now work with Danny P who seems to like to bet a little! I hope Carton won't be tempted to relapse.

Why suffer through 10 mins of tedium on WSCR waiting for your 10 mins of Bears chat when you can go to the multitude of local and live digital platforms and get total Bears talk for 60 mins?

WSCR once was the five star resort destination for Bears talk, but those days are long gone, and they are not coming back.

It's amazing how Haugh gets a pass on this board. Guy shouldn't be near a microphone under any circumstances. Fire him YESTERDAY. I can live with a bad personality. I can celebrate a good personality. I will not tolerate NO personality. I want to stick a fork in eye just to feel SOMETHING.

I’ve always felt the morning show had an advantage over other time slots as they need only to react to previous day’s/night’s games and headlines, and don’t need to create much original content. In that sense, the current hosts are perfect.

Goff is far from my favorite host, and I don't think I could stomach him in the morning, but I'd put him ahead of:

1. Hanley;
2. Haugh;
3. McKnight;
4. Mulli; and
5. Rahimi.

I would also put him ahead of your various fill-in options: Abbatacola, Grote, Herron, Rozner, etc.

I’d put Caller Bob and a pile of dog shit ahead of Barry Rozner.

Gonorrhea wouldn't bother with him and neither would Satan. You know what would kill him though? An original thought.

It sounds easy but the Score couldn't get that time slot right for at least its first decade. Murph finally solidified the position and Mulli+ has kept it steady.
