He did what he needed to do for survival. As you know, kids also have a way of getting you to modify some of your crude thoughts.

I think MANY people's dislike of Bernstein has more to do with them than it does with anything Bernstein has said or done. They don't like that he's a scrawny nerd and Jewish. They don't like that he comes from a well off family. They especially don't like that he's publicly leaned into liberal views. If Bernstein was conservative, MANY would love him. He probably would have gotten fired a decade ago, though.
You have like 2 pages of very valid reasons why people don’t like him and you want to go with it’s because he’s a rich Jew ?

It's my opinion. I listed a lot of reasons I think people don't like him. I didn't say being Jewish was at the top of the list for everyone. Being unable to identify with him is certainly a factor, IMO. Mike North wasn't beloved because he was conservative. Mike North was beloved because everyone knows Mike Norths.

If this board is any indication, the people who are most like him socio economically dislike him the most

You really believe both of those statements? 670 is littered with Jewish people and I'm pretty sure that's not a reason why people dislike certain on-air talent on the score. You think there are more conservatives in Chicago and surrounding area than liberal? Or do you feel (or even know) that the target market leans conservative? I'm not sure on that. I certainly don't think if he was conservative that would make him beloved.

I'll also point out that while people can hate on Bernstein I don't think there is anyone else close in Chicago sports radio who was as good as Boers and Bernstein were in their best moments. I listened to MJH every day and loved it but there is no chance they could have a highlight reel similar to what OKC put out there on the internet.

You're a little off. There's a sense of genuine meanness. People see that in Goff. I personally don't. Bernstein has no cred, therefore, no pulpit.

This. And it was shown for absolutely no reason to that Eddie Barstool guy. I can't wait to go back to hating everything Barstool. Bernstein has now ruined that for me too.

I honestly thought it was common knowledge who Nas was. I didn’t even think that referring to him as his full “podcast name” would be an issue. Wasn’t looking to cause any shit. It was more of a reference in regards to certai media member that had a different take than Nas on this. I still find it funny that there was concern to protect the podcast identity of the person that posted his W2 on this message board. I apologize for breaking the rules. My bad. Carry on.

No judgements. It's just frowned upon. Like masturbating on an airplane

Shit. That would explain all the weird looks I got when I got off my flight last week.

Barstool sending an online mob against Bernstein's wife and kids isn't enough for you?

Not quite yet. I haven' t seen the kids stuff. I'm sure its going to get to a point where its going to be overly gross. I know its wrong, but this is Bernstein's doing. He always gets away with shit or gets a slap on the wrist when others would suffer way more for the same mistakes. Gone far too long getting away with shit.

That being said, it’s not mutually exclusive. They can all be jerks.

No one defended McNeil when he was fired. Seemingly everyone cheered when North and Murph were gone. Boers was a unique situation given his health issues but it's not like he had a ton of friends there either though I think he was more well liked than Bernstein.

The Score seems to operate on the idea that a person who leaves on a Friday is forgotten and his desk filled by Monday.

Mac and North were both addicts when they got fired. That grates on even the best of friends.

Can confirm. Am a Jew doing well financially and I think all others here in that category dislike Bernstein as well.

Well said and agreed.

lol to "MANY" people not finding him likable because Jewish scrawny nerd, what an incredibly super shitty brush to paint with (especially, as has been said, in a thread/forum with plenty of reasons why people have soured on the guy). He's a pseudo intellectual hypocrite who quite seriously will tell people whether or not he has decided if it's ok that they celebrate a win or very_slowly explains to people how they should interpret something someone said or did ALL THE WHILE being just a wacky normal guy who works himself into a half chub talking about his McDonalds order, you know because he's "an id10t" - so relatable and such a juxtaposition for such a smart guy!!!11!!!!!

Because they believed he lowered himself for a bunch of idiots? I disagree. I think he gave a voice to the sports data nerds. MANY of them were/are likely sports data nerds.

Why does Bernstein get judged so harshly for MANY of the same traits that his critics appreciate in the entertainers they love? Why is Bernstein being judged harshly for things we're all guilty of?

It's true. 2006-2011, they were at the top of their game.

It's weird to think that the Joe in Evanston call was significantly closer to, say, the Columbine shooting (9 years, 10 months) than it is to the present (15 years, 7 months). The passing of time, man.

They were a comedy show that was informed by sports. Somewhere along the line that stopped. Penn State was the Rubicon, but it went bad before that.

I’ve mentioned it before, but the show was over when during a quote of the year show, usually the funniest and entertaining shows of the year, some middling Penn State news broke. They subsequently did all the quotes, but instead of laughing about them or having fun with them, they went right back to dumping on PSU. I’m all about shitting on Penn State, but they really showed their ass that day.

I loved Bernstein and North when I started listening to sports radio in the summer of 2003. North was easily the best of the "guy in the bar" crowd, and Bernstein fused sophomoric humor with data focused sports talk. I don't recall anyone doing what Bernstein was doing. If they were, they weren't as effective.

Twenty Years later, everyone is doing the data driven talk on some level. The sophomoric humor has been removed, and there isn't a regular host doing the bar bit.

I guess this speculation over Bernstein's likability proves that some of you really don't listen much anymore, and are telling the truth about that...

Bernstein isn't a curmudgeon anymore, he's more simply checked out.

And even his lingering prick sensibilities and elitism when it comes to sports opinions are known to be a heightened radio persona. It sounds to me like whenever they reference Bernstein on a personal level, he's well-liked. I remember this summer Spiegel mentioned Dan taking Spiegel's son fishing.

sure, Murph hates him (and Huebner by association), but you have to remember that Murph wasn't a radio prick, he was a jerkoff on a colleague level. That's why it's not apples to apples when thinking of the piling on Murph versus lack of piling on (again, it's just Barstool tools in a one-way feud) with Bernstein.

Was the D-Rose injury saga when Terry really started to lean heavily on "Yeah that's what my guy says too..." when Dan would get daily updates from [someone close to] Michael Reinsdorf?

You have like 2 pages of very valid reasons why people don’t like him and you want to go with it’s because he’s a rich Jew ?

Well said and agreed.

lol to "MANY" people not finding him likable because Jewish scrawny nerd, what an incredibly super shitty brush to paint with (especially, as has been said, in a thread/forum with plenty of reasons why people have soured on the guy). He's a pseudo intellectual hypocrite who quite seriously will tell people whether or not he has decided if it's ok that they celebrate a win or very_slowly explains to people how they should interpret something someone said or did ALL THE WHILE being just a wacky normal guy who works himself into a half chub talking about his McDonalds order, you know because he's "an genius" - so relatable and such a juxtaposition for such a smart guy!!!11!!!!!

Is it ok if I edit that to make it readable?

:lol:

It's not being a jerkoff on a colleague level to go on the air the day after a colleague is fired and thank management for doing it?

I remember it being the other way around: Penn State was the bad omen, but it was the Derrick Rose injury when the fun stopped for good and the board started to turn on him. IMAGINE BEING THIS GUY'S BOSS.

where does CTE squeeze in there?

I loved Bernstein and North when I started listening to sports radio in the summer of 2003. North was easily the best of the "guy in the bar" crowd, and Bernstein fused sophomoric humor with data focused sports talk. I don't recall anyone doing what Bernstein was doing. If they were, they weren't as effective.

Twenty Years later, everyone is doing the data driven talk on some level. The sophomoric humor has been removed, and there isn't a regular host doing the bar bit.

the golden era of the Score, which Bernstein had no part in, was as good as it got for me

I wouldn't put any Dan show even in the top 3

1. Monsters
2. MJH
3. HFC

also, the frustrating thing about Dan's, and most sports talkers for that matter, data analytics is that they have zero expertise to know the good from the bad, or even to explain to the listener the flaws of a particular analysis. Analytics to these people is the same thing as "follow the science". They saw that Theo used it. They thought Theo was smart. So, they would be thought of as smart if they used it as well. Meanwhile, Theo had moved on to some over data not available to them that they would only hear about 5 years after it had become important to MLB execs.

no, I think that's a different level

and I think that's proven true since McNeil doesn't have a personal grudge against Bernstein either, at least I am not aware of one

Think it bookended the Penn State stuff.

Chris Henry dies in late 2009;
Penn State story begins rumbling March 2011;
Junior Seau dies May 2012;
Derrick Rose has ACL surgery May 2012;
