I think so, but did not last long if I recall.

He gets his 4th or 5th partner in 5 years? Of course, he's probably excited that he continues to stick.

i would actually be ok with that. Grote has been a good soldier over the years and deserves a shot at a full time show if he wants it.

It was a temporary thing when Mac was in rehab circa 2012 or 2013. It was back when I still listened regularly and it wasn't a bad pairing.

I remember hearing them together for a few days many years ago. Leery might have been filling in for Mac. I don't recall what the situation was at this point, but I do remember them getting bitchy with each other fairly quickly. Speigel said "You've got a weird vowel thing going on." and Leery countered by mentioning one of Speigel's affectations.

They're both hypersensitive, which will likely make for some awkward moments before too long.

from transition to the first 3 minutes of the show, Loho is going to absolutely smother whatever good things the afternoon show still had left. Even Tannehill's open was just pure flattery of Loho.

It did make me realize that the "it turned out our best option was right under our nose" approach they took is the same one the White Sox took.

Does brucester have a storied history of declaring he is done listening, yet clearly still listens?

I get repetitive, untrue posts are annoying but I'm not sure that the retaliatory "no you didn't/won't" posts are any better.

That said, I can safely proclaim I will not come anywhere near listening to an even a minute of Larry & meatpants ... all I can do is to cross my fingers that ole Larbear and Shane get into an on-air fake fight and I read about it here.

Couldn't agree more. Started to literally explode in anger when Holmes got on an irrelevant tangent about some minutia during Bears talk. Couldn't pay me to listen to a second of that crap.

Pains me to do so, but I have to preemptively agree with the likes of douchebag and RFDC....zero chance you won't be listening again.

Me, on the other hand? Oh, I wouldn't open the blinds if Larry and meat were doing a remote from my backyard.

I'm trying to think back to the last big schedule change in 2018, when Mac came in, Goff went out, and Spiegel was collateral damage. Something had to be done about Goff, he was just too far up his own ass to do that show anymore, but it didn't feel like the station was really moving forward. They were just going back to the same well, growing old with their listeners, dancing with the ones who brung 'em, whatever figure of speech you want to use. I feel similarly here, but with less of that listener-loyalty dynamic that justified a third run for Mac. This feels more like doing the best you can, but not particularly in service of a loyal audience. This time, they were going to go back to Goff again but it fell apart at the eleventh hour for various reasons. So now we've had like a six-week open tryout to determine that the host of the afternoon show should just be Laurence Holmes and that a guy who got laid off from channel 2, the fifth-watched local news in a four-network market, is sufficient for middays.

Bernstein described the White Sox the other day as being "an end-stage operation." Is the Score not one as well? All these announcements about new shows and it's just the same people, more or less, shuffled around. They're not developing talent, they arguably haven't done so in years. It's like they're just trying to protract this version of the station as long as they can before Audacy sells the land out from under the stick. Again.

Larry was probably a catcher in the Royals minor league system at some point.

He declined to interview for the scouts before the draft because he didn't want to unsent someone who needed it more

Well, he was offered the role, but decided to remain a hot dog vendor.

Agreed. How many partners does Dan Bernstein get?

How many times can you shuffle the same people over and over and pretend it will be better/different?

They think they are bigger than sports, some sort of social conscious of all things "right". It's too embedded in their conversations now. I don't suspect that changes either. There are other options too listen to for probably better content without being lectured at.

I don't see how any of this is fixed with the same people.

The new guy reminds me of Haugh. Sort of harmless (so far) and bland. Maybe he'll be good and willing to find out, but it's not really exciting.

As I said somewhere today, they are going to pander to LoHo. I think Matt called him high priced talent or something to that effect.

I don't listen much to the former afternoon show, but they seemed to pride themselves (Parkins as the lead) on being fun, etc.

I just don't see Holmes as "fun", much more of a nerd.

Goff, McKnight, Rahimi, Holmes, Harris in about 7.5 years, plus that stretch where he had no partner at all.

The Score feels effete in the original definition of the word: not effeminate (though if you want to make that case, go for it), but rather exhausted and worn out, without vitality, a spent force. It's not at WLS-AM bad, but it's getting in the right lane and looking for the offramp.

In wake of Barstool blowup, Laurence Holmes’ move creates firestorm at The Score
The Sun-Times has learned that staffers perceive Holmes’ move from middays to afternoons as the result of a blowup with Barstool Sports and his desire to get out of working with station mainstay Dan Bernstein.
