You are or at least were a Patriots fan. Do you think Patriots fans had any less expectations for the team than the Bears fans do?

Still am. Honestly, I don't believe they have expectations that Jacoby Brissett is the next Tom Brady. But to your point, I also don't think we have realistic expectations that Drake Maye is, either.

I guess that's a question for Bears fans. My point is it feels like Bears fans are so eager to have a serviceable QB (or better) that they're ignoring what's in front of them. (Not you, from what I can read in this thread)

Bears fans overrated Cutler. Bears fans underrated (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky. Bears fans overrated Fields. It's still too early for Williams.

There's 3 rookies starting. After 4 games, Caleb is 3rd in QBR. It means next to nothing right now, but the Washington game will be interesting and Week 10 and thereafter when the schedule turns rough, will be even more interesting.

Right now the concerning thing is the coaching. Bo Nix has a quarterback whisperer. Kliff Kingsbury got the game ball yesterday after racking up 42 points, and Caleb has something called Shane Waldron.

Kingsbury coached teams faltered badly after the midway point of each season in AZ. Looking forward to seeing if that trend continues.

Chicago fandom has always looked at their teams in a vacuum. The 3 year window Bulls are the latest example. They never had a chance. Who the fuck believes Williams is generational? Chicago, that's who. They think Michael Jordans fall off trees. WE...are the worst fans in the country.

Chicago fans didn't label Caleb as generational, that came from the national guys. Gramps, did you know Montana, Elway, Brady, etc were generational from the beginning? Besides, basketball is different. It's easier to recognize that in a Shaq, LeBron, or Magic.

I agree on the basketball point for sure. To the point on the national guys crowning "generational talents" all willy-nilly, they definitely did it for Williams and have now shifted to Daniels (who had a lower QBR than Caleb this week).

Also, I think the "generational talent" thing was slightly overblown since everyone seemed to agree he was the best prospect since Lawrence who was only drafted 3 years earlier. Andrew Luck was a better prospect than both of them 10 years ago so it depends on how long you consider a generation.

Joe Burrow was a better prospect too. Most quarterbacks who go first overall have better profiles than Caleb Williams did coming out of school. All that generational talk should’ve been ended when he crumbled against PAC-12 competition last year, but then DEI took over.

Should’ve taken a harder look at Jayden Daniels.

Right now he's trending more towards bust than "Generational Talent"

You can stop repeating this over and over without saying anything actually interesting about what him being a bust actually means.

Four data points doesn't suggest a trend, especially when the team is 2-2.

No I'm saying (as I have said previously) that if you are going to draft someone No. 1 overall then you should expect him to be close to Tom Brady and Not Rex Grossman. If you think he's Rex Grossman then trade the pick to anyone who believes he is a "Generational Talent" so that you can get the proverbial "major haul"

If I have to explain the meaning of the word bust to you then you probably should remove yourself from the discussion. Which should have occurred after repeatedly claiming that Justin Fields "can't throw"

That's stupid. It takes an insane amount of luck to land one of the top quarterbacks of all time.

Brady was a sixth round pick. Mahomes was the third QB taken. Brees wasn't even a first round pick. Joe Montana was a third round pick. Elway and Manning were #1 overall picks.

You think Burrow was a generational prospect and didn't even think he was the best player in his draft.

Caleb Williams has shown you everything you should need to see to know he’s not gonna make it. It’s the same as Bryce Young. You are deluding yourself if you think this is going to play out any other way than him busting out of the league.

Jayden Daniels is what making it looks like. Caleb Williams is what floundering looks like.

You think Burrow was a generational prospect and didn't even think he was the best player in his draft.

I also said he was a top ten quarterback in the league right away. You can find that thread too.

It's stupid to ever believe that drafting someone #1 overall has more to do with "luck" than it does talent.

You need to read it again.

Getting a top ten all time QB requires an insane amount of luck.

Expecting Williams to be an all time great QB just isn't realistic. Of course that is the hope but the odds are stacked so heavily against it that you can still be happy with the pick even if he doesn't become Patrick Mahomes.

He won't be a top 10 QB in the league either. He and Justin Fields aren't even in the same conversation currently. Which is why you ran away from the "fairly quickly" insanity "fairly quickly"

We want a great one. Looking at quarterbacks in my lifetime, Marino is probably a guy that you would grow in a lab. He would have had a 6k+ yard season if he had played in this era. When I think about players I consider generational quarterbacks, they all had a quick release, processed information well, were great leaders, were married to the game, were mentally tough, were clutch, and all but Brady had a great coach. They also had some Sinatra in them.
