The other fun part is Mitch probably knew this wouldn't work long term, but he knows the station is whistling past the graveyard and knows it doesn't matter. Why not jam larry in afternoons and let him have some fun. Shane will leave for barstool, spiegel will have some dumb baseball podcast and make some awful music with len kasper, and once the station finally folds larry gets to know he made it big. Stick it to the old panther.

I do feel bad for Tanny but he will land on his feet and flourish somewhere.

I have a mental image of Sir going to ASU games, alone, while he was on vacation, alone, at the Phoenix apartment that he used to own.

Monday Sir mentioned going to the Bears game with a female quite a bit. Mia or something? Maybe a business friend or not.

I got a question. It's 2024, if Lawrence is 95% hetero and 5% gay, is he gay? Old school says gay but times change. I've always stumped for Lawrence being straight, but youtube gives me the chance to see his body language and it seems he might be a little gay. Just Arizona gay though. Am I allowed to make this distinction?

I listened for about 10 minutes last week. Literally, that's it. It's too bad.

First 5 minutes were Larry saying that Caleb is running way harder stuff than Jayden.

Next 5 minutes were when Kurt Warner was on, same day and was asked if Caleb was running harder stuff than Jayden. Kurt: No, in fact Jayden may be running more complex stuff.

Silence.

PTB.

Maybe I'll try again this week, but I doubt it.

Same here, turned on at 5:35 on way home, they were wrapping up for Bulls lead-in apparently. Here's what I heard.

Speigel - "You know what I know fellas?"

Larry & Shane - "No, what's that Speigs?"

Speigel - "That we're damn good show, and we're working well together"

Larry & Shane - "That's right, yes we are, you said it Spiegs"

WTH?

PTB

Side note, I actually find myself listening to Breakfast Ball on Sirius Channel 83 on drive in to work more that WSCR & WMVP, less commercials too. Carten is annoying AF, but
Stink and Parkins are good.

The fact that Spiegel has to say that means he doesn’t believe it. But it’s a speak it into existence. Look, Larry has worked a life where people tell them that they like him. Nobody can like Larry. He’s a phony and an ass hole. But people fear that Larry will call them a racist if you don’t like him.

My point is why have we become a country where black people can’t be weirdo, phony ass holes. Which is what Larry is. Same as all the crackers like him m.

Tuned in for a couple of minutes yesterday and Holmes used a Voltron reference. You could hear the frustration in Spiegs voice when he tried to explain to the listeners what that meant.

Listened to Spiegel and Larry talk MLB with Russell Dorsey. Mostly Spiegel's "isn't this great" in different forms, and Larry praising himself for championing MLB. No actual analysis of the playoffs once you get past how thrilled they are.

I caught a little bit of that segment. I believe Larry was bragging about how he was able to get Russ on. That had to be the most boring and uncomfortable segment I have ever heard. How long can they let this last. I find myself leaving Waddle and Silvy on a lot more and I can’t stand listening to Silvermans voice.

that's kind of where I'm at, although Silvy has been a good enough dude to me that I can get past the milquetoast nature of that show.

Still can't deal with Carmen/Jurko, but other than that ESPN 1000 has my ears if I'm listening to radio.

I heard it, it wasn't that bad once they got into the actual segment.

But yes there was a lead-up about Russ Dorsey the person and Laurence's personal relationship with him, which like most personal Laurence stories was not interesting

The fun has been drained out of the afternoon show. Holmes is too button downed and dedicated to being a "radio professional"...the type this show once lampooned. Matt is trying to retain the feeling of fun but no one will dare poke fun at Holmes. They never have, they never will for reasons this board has listed previously .

I agree 100%, it's a shame. The 5 minutes I heard the other day as they were wrapping up, Shane made a joke, then immediately apologized to Holmes for it.
He was kind of joking, but there was truth in jest.

Came to post about what I had just heard and guess it doesn’t matter. No one poster on the show thread in so long.

Anyway they just tried to have a bash LaRussa Sox segment. Spiegs talked about how yesterday he learned that the Sox improved their analytics department and that was good.

Then Larry talked about how the real bad guy in charge was interviewed on WGN with Tomasulo. I guess this was just some PR thing but Larry still has his Bernsie LaRussa chubby and was all up in it.

Funny thing is Tomasulo called in or Shane called him and I guess Larry thought he would be backed up. Instead he tell Larry and Spiegs they are crazy. LaRussa is some really old 80 year old guy that can’t run anything.

Quick end of segment.

Tony LaRussa talking authoritatively about anything other than a pet shelter frosts my ass. Do any other franchises have the Buddy To The Owner doing interviews?

I thought there was a small sample of Laurence feeling "put out" Friday. Bob Costas came as close to kidding Holmes about himself as anyone ever gets.
Matt handled the entire interview with Costas. At the conclusion Costas kiddingly chided Larry telling him he needed to stop interrupting and or monopolizing the conversation. Holmes had said nothing. After a second or so of silence, Larry offered his defense which was letting the station's baseball guy (Matt) handle the interview with an expert like Costas. He clearly seemed put out by even a tiny , kidding poke at him by Bob Costas

Bernstein and Larry Holmes are pushing the displacement of Mexicans for the building of Chavez Ravine. First thing Larry asks Costas about. Even lefty Costas had to be wtf first thing? Legendary sports announcer Costas talking to two guys who don't know what side to butter their bread had a fun vibe to it.

Costas' visits on Gilbert Gottfried's podcast were great. Especially GG knew absolutely nothing about sports made it better.

The afternoon show is not good at this point. Laurence is talking way too much and has to have every segment planned in detail. Spiegel is just sitting back and letting it happen. I guess Laurence knows he was the third or fourth choice to replace Parkins and he is overcompensating. The end of the show where he thanks everyone for their love and they will try to repay it is extremely self serving and nauseating.

Remember listening to the two hour Larry Holmes extravaganza back in the day. It was basically replays of game audio and interviews, the was one time where a guest did not show and Larry had to fill 10 mins, it was incredibly painful, he started rambling about his podcast, that show was mercifully put out of its misery. Good sports talk radio requires different voices with different opinions, and Larry cannot handle callers, independent minded guests, and god forbid a co-host that challenges him, likely a huge reason why he hates Pappy and Murphy as they would often belittle him for his flaccid sports takes.

That’s exactly it! There’s a lack of spontaneity and fun on the show. It’s all manufactured fun… And Larry’s need to kill every bit.

but but but He keeps telling us how much they are having. And many times a show he specifically addresses the mob. See? That's fun..... isn't it?
