I don't get the accuracy issues. You can't be the consensus #1 pick and play in a power 5 conference and not be accurate.

Why can't he hit receivers with the ball? Somebody needs to ask. Ask the coaches, ask the QB. WTF is the problem?

This is what a good rookie QB often looks like. Flashes of elite play but a lot of average or below average play. I think the accuracy is more that the game is moving too fast for him. That will go away with more experience.

At worst, he'll be a top 15 QB next year. I think he'll be top 10. The talent is undeniable. It would be nice if he didn't drop back thinking he had to start running like Vick out there just to have a play though.

+1. Did he want Caleb to play down to his competition. :drunken:

I'd appreciate it if he resembled anything other than a CFL caliber QB whenever they happen to play a decent team

I will say that the his performance floor is a lot lower than fifteenth best quarterback in the NFL.

At worst?? In May of 2023 there was talk of Justin Fields being an MVP candidate. It could be much worse.

BTW, last season’s final QBR 14-17 was Hurts, Lawrence, Burrow and Herbert.

The delusion with Brick is peak. He’s trapped in some long expired mindset where the worse a rookie quarterback looks the better he will be. Because Peyton Manning or something like that, as if the rules haven’t been almost completely rewritten to make it so anybody who has what it takes can do what Jayden Daniels is doing in DC.

Go ahead and tell me where you put Williams next year then. This isn't hard.

Rookie QB production mostly doesn't matter. If you are pathetic like Bryce Young then it matters.

Translation: Rookie numbers do not matter when the guy I like happens to suck. Otherwise it matters. Yours truly, Brick McCarver

When it was a sleepwalking Jags team or literally Carolina Brick was very WELLDIDHEIMPROVEWELLDIDHEIMPROVEWELLDIDHEIMPROVE but now that he looks like Bryce Young he’s mewling about “well rookie seasons don’t really matter unless he’s REALLY bad” (Caleb Williams is really bad).

This is all correct. Improvement is good. Rookie stats aren't really indicative of how the career will go.

I've already set the floor for Williams next year as a top 15 QB. You'll have plenty of opportunities to give your own prediction and I'll let you watch him play some more games before you have to make an actual prediction that could be wrong.

I am officially setting his floor as worst quarterback in the NFL, possibly benched. Anything below that and I will graciously admit I am wrong.

You sound very confident about nothing.

I get it. It's more fun to be able to say "You were wrong" without saying anything where I could say "You were wrong". Next year, you'll just be like "Well, he was bad at that time" when he's at worst a league average starting QB.

I think he sucks but it’s possible in the NFL there will be a handful of players who suck just as much (or perhaps even more). But in the binary scale of good enough or not good enough he’s clearly in the not good enough pile.

Maybe he’ll have a Baker or Darnold trajectory and succeed somewhere else. But the amount of work to do, complete immaturity and lack of talent (no way this guy should’ve gone first overall, his arm talent is pathetic) is too much for him to overcome in a typical three year leash. He will need to be cut down and suffer a total ego death. Maybe then he’ll come back, but it won’t be in Chicago.

That's better.

So, total bust in Chicago. If he's a league average starting QB you would be wrong.

I appreciate you actually saying something tangible like that unlike The Doctor Of Deflection.

But you were more than happy to tout his "rookie" stats when you were pumping the notion that he was "Generational"

"Williams can throw". Yeah to places where his receivers aren't and in the hands of the other team :

Career 300 yard games:
Fields(43 games): 1
Williams(3 games): 1

Even if you subtract the hail mary, Williams still passed for over 300 yards.

Correct. Fields was horrible as a rookie.

It doesn't mean Williams will be great because he's far better than him as a rookie.

Hey McCarver. You can claim that "Rookie Stats don't matter" if you are going to use "Rookie Stats" in order to make the case that Caleb is good.

Yeah and Adam Dunn could hit the Ball REALLY REALLY far whenever he wasn't striking out 220 times per year McCarver

Which ones were good?

He’s made a few first down throws. Stuff most practice squad guys can do.

So still you can't give a good throw he made?

He really does have a mediocre arm. I can’t think of a QB who went first overall with such an obvious lack of arm talent. Alex Smith? Smith was more accurate though.
