Silvy completely ranted about the show on facebook. Anyone have any thoughts?

Some notes:

Marc Silverman can't explain how bitter and bad Billy Corgan was. I'm stunned. Say it ain't so. Pumpkins served up a big shit burger and did it intentionally!

Marc Silverman at 10:51pm November 18
Maybe I'm dating myself, but he was like Andy Kaufman at the end. TRYING to make us hate him. asking "why do you hate us, cuz we don't do what you want us to do?!" There were fist fights over people booing. He compared the crowd to an "ex-girlfriend". I know I read bad reviews, but in HIS town, his first concert here in 8yrs, i thought it ... Read Morewould be a love fest. It was not. Billy Corgan is a bitter man. I've seen them almost 10 times now. Loved them EVERY TIME. even saw them 3 times as ZWAN. I'm not a hater. Was like watching an old, bitter, washed out athlete.

Yeah Silvy is talking about it now.......pretty much saying the same thing he stated on Facebook....wow...he sounds really disappointed.

Silvy is full of it.
He completely disregards the first two hours of the show to rail on the last 15 minutes...
If he wanted 1991-1996 pumpkins he should have seen them then. Anyone who has been a fan of theirs as long as he and I have, should have known better.

The show was exactly as I expected it to be.
The Smashing Pumpkins are who I thought they were.

no, the billy rant is scripted....same as the zack de la rocha politics at the rage shows last year.
almost verbatim.

i gave up on the pumpkins after "Mellon Collie..." (although i went out and bought "Adore" when it came out). i was a real big fan of "Gish", and still dust off that one once in a while, but they just went further and further away from that with each album they put out, to the point of the flat-out weirdness of "Adore". i would have loved to see them back in the "Siamese Dream" years, but those days are long gone now. "Siva", "I Am One", "Bury Me" and "Rhinoceros" were really good rock songs.

exactly...it's like comparing bears teams to the 85 team.

i haven't given up on them, as you put it.
i still like what they do. adore is a fantastic album....it's just not "the smashing pumpkins".....well, yeah. one of the best rock drummers alive wasn't on it.

one of the things that drew me to the pumpkins was jimmy chamberlains drumming - he is outstanding.

it's Billy and Jimmy with a new guitarist, bass player, keyboard player, a horn section at times.

mayonaisse was great.

Seriously, fuck Billy Corgan. That guy has made a career of being a prick to everyone. This should be the 20th anniversary tour of Billy showing the world he is an asshole. I know people are saying that his whole rant is scripted or a joke, but that guy has been that smug forever. He's done interviews claiming that He and Jimmy are the real pumpkins, and that's why he didnt invite James and Darcy back. I guess he forgot all about 1988-2000. Ive heard from chicago DJ's, and also people who have met him personally how much of a douche he is also. This city made him a millionaire, and it seems he shows no gratitude for it at all. The band has been back together for almost two years, and this is the first time they have even played a show here.

Fuck you Corgan. Eat a bag of dicks!
P.S. Your setlists suck.

they invited james and d'arcy back. they refused.
so, billy and jimmy recorded zeitgiest without them.

"Wicker Park Slim" Derogatis has a review that is very similar to Silvy's in today's Sun-Times. Not good.....

Maybe 1990's "teen angst" and gloom/doom doesn't translate well for a 41 year old guy from a priveleged background in the year 2008?

well...that's part of it isn't it?
the newer songs don't reflect the 18 year old versions of the selves we once were. as they shouldn't....
billy did not come from a privledged background by any stretch.

yeah....sounds lovely.

Childhood and formative years
Corgan is the oldest son of William Corgan Sr., a blues guitarist, and Martha Louise Maes Corgan Lutz. His parents had one more child, Ricky, before divorcing in 1970. William also fathered a half-brother, but Corgan has never found out who he is.[2] His father was soon remarried to a flight attendant, and Corgan and his brother went to live with them in Glendale Heights, Illinois.[3] During this time, Corgan alleges he was subject to much physical and emotional abuse by his stepmother.[4] Corgan's half-brother, Jesse, was born in 1976. Jesse was afflicted with mild cerebral palsy, Tourette's syndrome, and other disabilities, and Corgan spent a good deal of his youth taking care of and defending him.[5] When Corgan's father and stepmother separated, all three children would live alone with the stepmother, with both of Corgan's birth parents living separately within an hour's drive.
