That backfired on both of them. Fields still sucks and Poles gets a worst draft pick then what he spent on a punter.

You say that Fields still sucks. He was 4-2 as a starting qb. I'd say he has a better record as a starting qb than Caleb Williams. Why is that?

It will be interesting to see where Fields ends up next year, do see a few places indicating the Raiders might be interested.

If they stay 1/1, Shadeur seems very likely.

Not for nothing, but somebody should ask Poles why they ended up down a tackle today while Poles used a 3rd round pick on a Yalie who’s a healthy scratch in week 16 of his rookie season.

I can't make a case for keeping him. I always disagreed with his approach of building the team from the back forward and the outside in, but I wanted to give it time. I really don't want to give him the opportunity to now build the lines because he has been a disaster with the choices he has made for those units.

Any benefit of a doubt he once had is now gone. Oline has been an issue for a long time, especially center. I would launch him. Ask yourself--what would a well-run team do?

“Take the North and never give it back” is enough reason. Three last place finishes in the division and a 2-15 record. Way, way worse than anyone’s expectations. Sole accomplishment is getting lucky with landing two straight 1/1 picks thanks to Lovie Smith and the Carolina Panthers. He has been an unmitigated disaster.

Needs to go. New guy needs to build an offensive and defensive line

The issue with all these thoughts is they require competent ownership. Similar to the Sox, this city needs a couple of deaths before change will happen.

Let Warren fuck around with the stadium. But have the fucking GM report to the owner like it should be. Warren should have zero input on on field product

You have national broadcasts allowing the notion of a forced sale enter the discourse and all of Soldier Field chanting SELL THE TEAM. Nobody who is a politician is going to lineup to give these guys a cent. The Bears dreams of a new stadium are dead and it will take years of team success to replenish enough to goodwill to get it back on the table.

What is there left to fuck around with? The team hasn't won a playoff game since the Arab Spring and hasn't even paid off the last new stadium they demanded. They're not getting anything from the state.

Great. Maybe they'll win 10 games (in one year, not three) by the time they've paid for Soldier Field.

The only way the McCaskey’s cache enough credibility to endure another rebuild org (especially with a profoundly terrible bust quarterback) is if they fire Warren. Poles isn’t enough blood.

The guy who sold the rights to Big Ten games he didn't have the rights to is going to find the coach and GM who will turn the Bears around? A likely story.

Sun tines beat guy Patrick Finley wanted to write about the defense being under contract for 2025 and bad as of late and despite the fact the defense wasn't the problem tonight he wasn't going to sit on the article.

Drafting Caleb Williams is the single biggest reason to fire Ryan Poles. Said this in the Summer and it becomes more and more apparent by the week. When you have the No.1 overall you cannot flub it or that is your ass. Poles flubbed it and now we see the results

This morning Mully and Haugh referenced a Poles interview on ESPN before the game where he said he saw “installation” issues in training camp. ???

Some bad takes, does he really think Edmunds is "solid", is he watching Uncle Terry's imaginary TV?

Would really encourage the local "Bears Experts" to get out of the Halas Hall silo, sit and watch a game with someone that is not on the Bears payroll so he can give a more informed opinion, maybe at one of the "Football for Women" events, but that would insult many of the women at the event as they would undoubtably have better football thoughts than Pat Finley.

Pat, if you read here, this is what you should have been watching.

First of all, where is the stud three tech? Everyone knows that for a base Cover-2 to work you need a three tech that can get into the backfield regularly and get the QB off the easy cover-2 beating throws. Highly doubt he will man up and ask his guy Ryan Poles that question, but that essential element of the D has never been addressed and is obvious to anyone watching.

Secondly, what in the hell is Edmunds doing? If you watch Urlacher play the position you see a guy that understands the D and is calling out plays before they happen, takes away the middle, but is not too deep in his drops, and closes quickly on underneath throws. Edmunds was rightly called out by Herbstreit last night for "standing around", he is way too deep in his drops, is an unwilling at best tackler, and is as soft against inside runs as any MLB in the NFL. Pat, ask your guy Ryan Poles what in the hell he was thinking when he overpaid this guy?

Finally, and really most damning, what is Ryan Poles thinking in the draft room? Reaches for project guys like Sewell, Pickens, Robinson, and blows three second round picks on DB's who are just guys, you would have at the very least depth guys on your O line with the project guy picks and likely a starter is you fired one of second round DB picks on an O or D lineman. Here is your question Patrick, "Hey Ryan, why should anyone think you can fix the mess you have created, are you gonna put down one of those mandatory books on leadership Warren keeps leaving on your desk and instead pick up a copy of Bill Polian's "Drafting for Dummies"?

In many ways "Hard Knocks" was a big tell on what was really going on with the Bears.

They likely have hours of footage showing the o line struggling on the cutting room floor. The fact that the Bears offense was struggling against what turned out to be a terrible Bears D in training camp is a read indictment of the lack of self awareness and more importantly self scouting at Halas Hall.

You also saw several of the Bears highly paid vets loafing around like they were superstars when they have not won anything.

However, the worst of the worst is the laughable stuff where Warren, Poles, and Eberflus are behaving like absolute goofs, trying to say all the right things, but sounding like they are regurgitating sentences from the leadership books that Warren was apparently requiring everyone to read.

This all of course points to George, who was likely scripting everything, this organization is so inept that you would have to fire everyone and have Halas Hall fumigated just to get the stench of ineptitude out of the building.

Bears defense is by no measure terrible. Especially when Matt Eberflus was still coach.

Currently its somewhere in the middle third league-wide. Where it falls within that cohort seems to be week-to-week.

Rome Odunze gets to hide in Caleb's shadow. This guy has a pathetic 52.5 catch percentage and it shows on tape. Passes hit him in the hands and bong. And it has happened in a lot of big situations. Keenan Allen is only slightly outdoing him with his 56.8.

I'm sure it's Caleb's fault

Apparently these coaches were ok with Caleb's shit footwork. Not shocking he's been inaccurate on a lot of downfield throws. Rome will be fine. Can't promise he'll live up to pick 9 but he isn't a bust. That is clear

I’m no fan of EPA, but this would suggest they’ve been the worst in the league for the last couple months (pre-Seahawks):

Yea OK they just held an opponent who is possibly playoff bound to six. The worst defense in the league isn’t a holding an opponent to six points.

They’re OK, sometimes kinda good sometimes kinda bad. Teams are going to the playoffs this year with defenses on the Bears’ level.
