My favorite Murph segment was "Thin Books," where he challenged listeners to come up with unlikely title/author combos, such as Bulking Up Naturally by Tony Mandarich.

I was reminded of that segment during the classic Curb Your Enthusiasm episode where Larry and Jerry are at a book signing for George Costanza's Acting Without Acting.

Bernstein is not back, that was a lame argument from him against Rose, and you could tell it was bad because even Larry disagreed.

Dan was trying to make some analytical argument ("win shares" is a terrible NBA stat per people who know as much) but I think deep down he holds the injury recovery "decision" against Rose like you do. And this was completely unmentioned but he probably doesn't like honoring a sex creep (though never convicted of anything, Rose at least affirmed in testimony he's a creep)

it's not like a jersey retirement has historically merited some objective standard. What was Chet Walker's jersey number? nobody knows! meanwhile, whenever anyone even in training camp thought of taking #1, thousands of millenials would spam that player and the team with rose flower emojis

prime Bernstein would've applauded the Reinsdorfs for their marketing efforts surrounding an 'undeserving' player still getting them a good home gate revenue after his injuries hurt that family financially for so many years

Now it was announced Bulls will retire the jersey...next year

Dan on social media calling it an 'injustice' to several other Bulls. Odd thing to take a stand on, Jersey retirements are not the hall of fame. And even as honors go the basketball hall of fame is not prestigious, watered down by every D1 coach with longevity

Silence over the injustice of the craven money grab to drag this honor out over another home game next season. 'Pernicious myths' back?

Looked it up, it was #25. Steve Kerr wore it during the dynasty, and Dalen Terry wears it currently.

Good thing he as his NBA money, would say he's as dumb as a bag of hammers, but that would be an insult to the hammers.

Tons of blue collar people out there dragging themselves to work every single day with health issues that would put Rose out for the season.

Had a patient once that was 70 years old and was still working at the local factory, fell off a ladder trying to repair a leak in her trailers roof, had to get back to work, no rehab for her, got bills to pay, laugh when I read the toughness crap from pro athletes.

On the same day, but on different shows, Dan and Lawrence unite on a common enemy - Jon Gruden. Both start going into him and his racist emails as a sort of pre-emptive attack on the idea that he could be talked to, even considered a candidate. Harris reminds Bernstein that the country loves giving people 2nd chances and alludes, but doesn't say, to an observation that racism is alive and well.

On a unrelated note, Thomas Brown praise reminds me of politicians, when sick with Covid, tweeting out they were ok because they have been vaccinated. I don't think a Chicago media person can mention Thomas Brown without having to first let everyone know that they thought Brown was put in a tough situation but handled himself well..before getting to their actual point.

Yes, Chicagoland is up to speed on Thomas Brown. And has been for a while. Pat on the head not required because of the darker melanin. He doesn't want it, I'm pretty damn sure.

good pick up. noticed this the other day on chsn expert football show, with haugh, polinsky..etc.

polinsky mused that maybe brown had saved his job with an 'eloquent' defense of....etc and etc....packer post game speech that woke the ghosts of lincoln and jefferson...she asked haugh if brown may have potentially saved his job and be a viable candidate as the next head coach.

haugh, did his best not to bust out laughing. haugh starkly said 'no', as he fought back spasms of laughter.

the few times i spent time watching this show and the 2nd horrific bears football take by her.

I've heard some of our football experts/hosts suggest that he will be well perceived all over the league, was actually a very good offensive coordinator before the head coaching job, maybe should be part of the next Bears coaching staff...

Bernstein's pandering topped the cake

I think Bernstein said that if Caleb wins a Superbowl, he could see him thanking Thomas Brown.

I've started listening and it just feels too much like staged outrage.

Poles says he has a strong relationship with Warren, works with him daily and says that many of the rumors he has heard are untrue.

All 3 are outraged and pretend that they don't know who has said that they don't work daily together when, to me, it was clear, Poles was referring to the overall relationship of which has been a constant theme, including on this show.

I'm sure I will agree with some of their outrage, maybe even most, but when you go into these looking to yell and nitpick, it comes off to me as just fake outrage to be upset.

I'm guessing Ryan Poles did not, in fact, win the press conference.

I've heard most of it now. I stand by my original comments. They're just going to jump in, outraged every 3 minutes whether it's justified or not and pretend to not understand what Poles is saying.

The Bears deserve to be criticized, just do it for the reasons that matter.

They were very easily offended and parsing every word. But it’s content gold for WSCR.

Allow me to be disagreeable here.

The point re: Poles and Warren isn’t whether they’re friends. It’s why the hell should black lawyer Ted Phillips have so much football input when white accountant Kevin Warren was rightfully a punching bag for the exact same reason. It’s Groundhog Day.

When Poles says he spends every day with Kevin Warren talking about solutions and the direction of the football team…what the hell does Kevin Warren know about building a football team?

I don't think they were questioning whether it was a good idea for Poles to spend time with Warren, they were suggesting that Poles was questioning if he was actually spending time daily with Warren. Poles was actually referring to his relationship with Warren being poor and that's what he was pushing back on in the media, but the show was twisting what he was saying.

The only thing Thomas Brown proved is that he is a bumbling idiot, even your average Madden player would not run behind a rookie LT making his first start on 3rd and 1 in the first quarter, one of the dumbest calls you will ever see. It took him two quarters to finally give the kid some help, his offense if play calling was offensive to anyone with a brain.

That offensive game plan for the Packers game was beyond amateurish. It was particularly troubling because the coaching team had nothing to lose, as the game meant nothing and everyone was going to be fired the next day. So Brown was given a chance to do anything he wanted offensively and he chose to throw screens all day.

Despite every team announcing on X that they have interviewed a coach, regardless of race, Dan Bernstein (with both Leila and Harris agreeing) accused the Patriots (and others) of being racist by announcing when they have completed interviewing minority candidates. He did this 2x in the first hour of the show today.

Full agreement from his co-hosts at another ignorant, but extremely confident in his bad takes.

It was a topic on/off on Mully/Haugh. So far, not as much, from what I've heard on Bernstein/Harris.

Feeling aggrieved? No. I do like calling out their very bad takes.

See it more as lazy production than a bad take, at this point Dan likes to play the hits, tries to fill airtime with the same tired ass SJW takes he has done for the past several years, think it is because he is either too lazy, or does not really care to talk about the actual qualifications of the potential coaching candidates.

I would be very careful if I was the new dude because it did not work out too well for a few of the previous Bernstein co-hosts who agreed with him and would double down on the SJW BS.

Albert Breer said in terms of coaches, the Pats have done this four times in recent memory now. It is kinda ridiculous.
