I don't know how you can start this conversation without figuring out the cost of the chicken. Dummies.

They cost half of your savings if you don't treat them well

$3.82

Quote:
Unfortunately, egg prices are back up to $3.82 on average for a dozen in supermarkets, according to the latest government survey. That's after they shot up to $5 a dozen in 2022, and then dropped back to $2.75 last year.

1.94 is what they pay in Venezuela.

12 Yen in China = .079 Cents

$7.24 at Sam's Club for 2 dozen, which comes out to $3.62 per dozen. Funny enough the free range organic eggs are $5.22 for 18, which means they are cheaper at $3.48 per dozen.

Hell, a bag of Doritos is obscene.

With kids away at school, I don't buy much junk food/drinks stuff, so really out of touch with what they charge. Bought some drinks over Christmas break and regular price for a 12 pack of Coke is $10 at Jewel/Marianos. As I stood there yelling at the clouds, I had a "back in my day" thought from when I was addicted to Diet Coke and excited when I found it four 12-packs for $10.

From what I’ve read, chickens will keep laying eggs when you take them away…so I guess if you leave them there, they stop?

Chickens lay based on day length so during the winter you can stimulate production by running lights or basically shut it down for a while by not running lights at all. As far as them stopping laying to brood (sit on eggs) its kind of breed dependent.
