Whatever happens, I need to hear some reporting that they at least offered Johnson and were declined. I’ll give Poles the Ryan Pace “hey, I tried!” award.
All that matters is how nice the plane is they send to Detroit to pick him up for the interview.

As of now Johnson's options are Jags,Raiders,Bears ,stay home and Dallas if it opens up.

Why would he choose the Bears?

Because I would prefer if he chose the Bears.

All about the power of positive thinking.

So apparently the Raiders have used up their 3 hour window to talk to Johnson.. but Brady will still get to meet with him as a broadcaster for the upcoming game against the Commanders. Which is a total bullshit conflict of interest.

Hopefully the Bears and an other teams involved kick up dust in regards to this because it is technically against the rules because Brady is a part owner of the Raiders and already met with Ben.

What are you going to do? Fine them a fifth round pick? By then the damage is done.

Ben Johnson is going to the Raiders, it seems like it would be a huge shock if he doesn’t. Bears once again can’t compete.

Fans trick Bears QB Caleb Williams into thinking he's getting call from Ben Johnson

Don't ask us how they pulled it off ...

Two fans allegedly tricked Caleb Williams into thinking he was getting texts and calls from Ben Johnson about accepting the head coaching job with the Bears.

They also evidently got Williams to get on a FaceTime call, at which point Williams figured out that he got got.

Williams was a good sport about the whole joke, even chuckling and telling the fans that it was "all good."

And for those reading between the lines, Williams certainly didn't seem too upset at the prospect of getting Johnson as his next head coach.

He also spoke to his presumed new HC like he was a college roommate. The lack of professionalism and lack of respect for the HC position will undermine the HC in the locker room from day one. If the 12 clowns running the interview see that it almost ensures a Ron Rivera type is going to get the job. Would he text Belichick to go and "fucking kill" in his first encounter with him?

Now we're getting somewhere. Which is why all of the speculation regarding "top candidates seeking to come here" is a waste of energy imo.

Coaches talk. They know that this kid is an entitled uncoachable tool that is all about himself.

No coach that isn't super thirsty for an NFL gig is gonna want to deal with that. Particularly so given the fact that they know that this kid has management (and possibly ownership too) in his hip pocket.

Peep Show feel free to "lurk" and bump this once I'm proven wrong.

The price on Flores has drifted up to 8/1...still not what I was looking for but I jumped in.
Ben Johnson is still the chalk followed by Kingsbury
Also took a little on Weaver a- 25/1 just because....

Bernsie just said that Joe Brady is represented by Trace Armstrong. That will probably be the guy then

I would be happy if they hired Brady. No to Flores or any other defensive coach.

The "family" will intervein on the Highly Successful football coach. He is far to drinky for them (do some digging on him falling asleep at the facility and bailing on meetings for office massages). He also berated a high school official at a basketball or volleyball game or something and as a youth baseball umpire George will not be having any of that!

Bump McCarthy to the top of the likely outcomes list behind Flores and the defensive guru from…uhhh…Miami?

Perfectly fine by me. I'm not sure he's any worse of a candidate than Johnson.

I think there are two grouping for me.

There is the hot assistants OC

1a. Johnson
1b. Brady
2. Monken

experienced guys with good-great records but age

1. Carrol
2. Mc Carthy
3. Flores

there are also the DC, but I don't want a dc, even though I fully acknowledge that a HC is an entirely different job than a coordiantor and should be a good HC irrespective of O/D.

I may have a different opinion on group 1 and 2 depending on the day. Why wouldn't Pete Carroll still be great? The guy has endless enthusiasm and has taken at least two programs to heights they haven't achieved without him. and we get the benefit of maybe grooming the next hot OC candidate who would stay knowing Carroll is old. Give me any from group 2 and I'd bet on 8 wins next year and 10 within 2 years.

This is a boomer take if I've ever seen one.

The freaking out over the ‘text’ thing is cracking me up. Tho, in this case it’s a Packer fan so it’s expected at least lol

On topic.. I do think this front office has legit interest in McCarthy. I’m not sure how I feel about that but it would be hilarious if he came here, whipped Caleb into shape and started beating the Packers consistently lol

They have hired the group 1 types before. Only Lovie Smith worked out. Wanny was by far the hottest candidate when the Bears hired him away from Dallas.

I think Caleb would react best to Carroll's style.

In fact, Carroll could take that laissez faire locker room and make it work. He's done it before.

Yeah Wanny definitely was at the time. Hell even Ditka wasn't a hot coaching prospect when Halas snared him back in the day.

Cowboys should be much more attractive to Johnson than LV and Jerry is essentially the GM. That's where he is going.

You need a guy that is competent enough to act as a head coach and not get caught up in just managing one side of the ball.

The last two guys were good assistant coaches, but failed miserably as game managers and with player accountability.

Nagy did OK when Fangio was carrying him as the DC, but could not run a competent practice and failed to communicate with players.

Eberflus, well not sure who besides George thought he was head coaching material, the guy was one of the more incompetent head coaches you will see in the NFL, failing at basic clock management, hired a brutal coaching staff. Keeping Eberflus around set your franchise back 2-3 years and maybe ruined your potential franchise QB.

That said, George likely hires Brady or Monken.

Monken is a bit like Johnson in that he likes big nasty offensive lineman and favors running the ball, will need a total overhaul of the offensive roster, so see huge roster evaluation differences with Poles.

Then again, almost everyone will have huge roster evaluation differences with Poles, and why not, Poles has presided over the creation of the 32nd ranked offense in the NFL, a team that averaged 283.5 yards per game, almost 200 yards a game less than the Ravens.
