hmm, a drip or a black guy?? I'll take the black guy. I'm bigoted. I hate drips. I call the whole group of them...Dripshits.

I really think Weaver might turn them down too. Coaches seem to have gotten wiser, they aren’t just going to be “happy to be here” and are fine waiting cycle after cycle for the right fit. Only the desperate are going to go for the Bears, Jets or Raiders—unless they are given almost complete control (which Oakland seems willing to give).

The Raiders seem to be undergoing prominent de-Davising, though, with Tom Brady and that other guy stepping up as faces of ownership. I think they'll end up being the first team to give up the full 20% to private equity, and then they'll finally be the soulless football commerce machine they were destined to become in Las Vegas.

Well whatever happening it has rendered the Bears as a tool for candidates to drive up their price elsewhere. Which I guess is one step up from the Jets where people are just saying “thanks but no thanks”.

Wish I could believe that Poles/Warren/George are bringing in the best and brightest in an effort to get the best football information available from the top football minds.

However, here is what likely happened when the interviewed Vrabel, Poles could not understand what Vrabel told him about evaluating offensive lineman, Warren saw Vrabel as too strong of a guy and was scared, and George...well George likely was cowering in the corner or retreated to one of Halas Halls many safe spaces because he felt unsafe.

It does seem that Virginia will step in and hire McCarthy, a good catholic boy.

all of you are overthinking it

The biggest names aren't even available yet for interview.

I'll do my own edition of this board's arguments built on sand: The strong Mc Carthy interest is just a ploy to DRIVE DOWN Johnsons ask

It's going to be an awkward situation for Johnson if the Lions win this weekend. The real hiring season starts on Monday.

The idea that guys can’t assemble staffs without agent input is probably obvious, but not something I’d considered.

Eberflus had no plans for offense aside from a guy he met at a golf outing hosted by their mutual agent.

It’s already done what are you even talking about. The only idiots who still think Ben Johnson will coach for the Bears are people who gamble on sports. He’s going to the Raiders, its over.

He may go to the Raiders. There is no way it's already done.

There’s a hot take out there that Johnson wanted to see if an organization could identify its own failures and where they went wrong.

A week later this article bubbles up…

The weird thing about the article is that it’s effectively two stories smashed together. A big chunk is DEI angst you’d have expected post-Floyd. Then there’s this harsh transition into “look how had the Bears were at hiring.”

I like that Dan talked about how damning this article was of the Bears and how the process hurts people of color but then slammed the brakes and said "now let's not get any ideas about how it's bad for lawyers to help their clients."

Bernstein is promoting this article like it's the most important thing ever written.

Nah, it’s done. Certainly as far as the Bears are concerned, I don’t follow Jacksonville well enough to know if they’ll make a final run at him but the Bears won’t. Not for a white guy.

Not really surprising given the ineptitude of some of these billion dollar teams. Still, quite annoying to see it spelled out like this. The hiring process at Denny's is better-run.

Non-coaching related but may be worth not having the extra picks to have this guy save Poles from himself:
