That was completely unprofessional. People paid good money to see them and he insults them. Just shut up Billy and play your fucking songs and everyone will be happy. What a pretentious douchebag. I never really thought I liked him and now this gives me more reason not to. Maybe things are being taken out of context, but it sure seemed like he was being an egotistical prick.

Oh, and what's with the skirt or dress thing? We get it. You're different. Nobody really cares. Just shut up and rock already. That is what you are, a rock band...right?

Now, I am not a Pumkins fan, so I could give a shit what people think about them or Billy Corgan. But goddam does he come across as one of the most egotistical, condescending jagoffs in the world in that particular video.

In this day and age, there is a proper forum for that kind of nonsense: blogging. 90+% of your fans have internet access. You have 7 minutes worth of crap to spew, throw it up on a blog or a myspace. The concert stage is not the place for that. People attend those to hear you play music, not talk about how your farts smell like candy and roses and how you're better than anyone else. Billy Corgan, what a douchebag.

Really not that much different than Axel Rose pulling his band off the stage and telling his fans to go fuck themselves.

Didn't Corgin have a drug issue a few years back?? Sounds like a guy whose back on the junk to me.

the end of the show...after 25 songs.
i found it hilarious. he played to the crowd. he was being a ham. they do a ridiculous ending. people were laughing.
a drunk meathead fan on the mic. btw: that was not me on the mic. listen to the amount of cheers. he was gracious at the end.
sorry, i'm not feeling the hate. maybe it's just b/c i can't see the head for the baldness.

"do you like us b/c we do what we wanna do?"
YES! That's exactly it.

Love the Rickie Lee Jones call, Col. Angus. I need to pack that CD next "early '80s flashback trip" to Ball State.

Music, like beauty, lies in the eyes (or ears) of the beholder. But since Chicago acts are being tossed about... how about Maywood's own John Prine? Any love for the man who gave us "Grandpa Was A Carpenter" or "Please Don't Bury Me" or "Sam Stone?"

The line is getting blurry as to what is exactly being debated/listed here (greatest/most successful/best/favorite), but I used to love me some Urge.

I Nash and King seem like pretty pretentious assholes as well. But, see, I can still like their music.

"Ain't Hurtin Nobody", "Crazy As A Loon", "In Spite of Ourselves"

Good call Mackey. A John Prine song always puts a smile on my face.

Keep in mind, the encore.
Time to go out w/ a bang.
All he did was insult fans about not being happy w/ the band, comparing the crowd to a money hungry ex girlfriend, and NOT playing ANY songs!

I'm not a Smashing Pumpkins fan and I've never really heard Corgan talk, but does he have a lisp or was that just the way the audio was being picked up by the camera? When he's talking, he reminds me of Jim Carrey (sp?) when he played the Grinch.

they played a 20 minute psychedelic pink floyd space jam? (which was fucking awesome btw).

Yeah this was pure garbage on Wednesday. The Pumpkins are good. Play any song you want, but dont jam out for 20 minutes like your that talented that people wanna just hear you rock. Theyre not the type of band to pull that off (few are).

On Wednesday scores of people were walking out 3 mins into the 20 minute jam. Overall the concert was average.

Last night was much better than Tuesday. Same set...but just a better show, better crowd.
I got a guitar pick from Billy. (brag about something nobody cares about)
Billy was clearly sick. As such, they've moved tonights show to December 8th.

Smashing Pumpkins postpone final Auditorium Theatre show
By Jim DeRogatison November 22, 2008 7:31 AM
Ending their controversial four-night Chicago homecoming with neither a whimper nor a bang, the Smashing Pumpkins have canceled tonight's show at the Auditorium Theatre "due to illness," according to promoters Jam Productions.

The show has been rescheduled to Dec. 8 at the Auditorium, when the band will play the same "White Crosses" set that had been planned for this evening, and fans will be able to use the same tickets they held for tonight. No word yet on a plan for refunds.

The bestselling alternative era band's much-anticipated and long-awaited return has generated more controversy than any concert here in years, rivaling Creed's infamous self-destruction at the Allstate Arena.

Advertised as a "20th Anniversary Tour," many fans expected a career overview from the reunited group. Instead, bandleader Billy Corgan gave them a conceptual performance that few seemed to understand, featuring some old hits, a lot of new material, an odd collection of rarities and monologues that apparently were part of the show but which many concertgoers heard as bitter eruptions of anger at the fans and/or onstage melt-downs.

The band's boosters said the first and second nights, "Black Sunshine" and "White Crosses," both had to be seen to understand what Corgan was attempting to do. Now fans who caught only the "Black Sunshine" night will have to wait two weeks to figure it out--if they still care at all.

Still don't want to admit Billy is a D-bag Doug? He cancels because the poor baby isn't feeling 100%. Who does he think he is, Brandon Lloyd? I'm sure he called in sick fearing the best for his fans.

i remember seeing they might be giants years ago and john flansburgh was sick as a dog. he apologized to the fans if he "sounded bad"...they kicked ass. maybe the medicine had kicked in or something...

i don't know how sick he is but i'd be pissed if it was just a cold or something.

I saw Pearl Jam when Eddie was sick as a dog at the United Center in 2003. That show was not very good, but that was moreso because of a poor setlist than Ed being under the weather. The show 3 days later at Alpine Valley was by far the best I've seen of them.

Speaking of Pearl Jam - and the Pumpkins

Corgan blames Vedder for Cubs suckiness - then plays his kazoo

Billy Corgan Does Not Appreciate Eddie Vedder Single-Handedly Causing The Cubs To Lose

By Will Brinson

You most certainly recall our video of Eddie Vedder, lead singer of Pearl Jam, singing his tribute song “Someday We’ll Go All the Way” about the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series (someday, natch). It seemed appropriate considering the Cubs seemed poised to win a title for the first time in 100 years, but then Manny and the Dodgers happened, and well, yeah. No such luck.

Of course, we all understand that short series(es) in baseball don’t always replicate a season’s worth of success, and the Dodgers were simply better at that point in time, so we moved on. Well, not all of us. Billy Corgan, of Smashing Pumpkins fame, and certainly the only living contemporary from 90’s grunge that can equal Vedder’s celeb status, isn’t quite thrilled about Eddie cranking out his tribute. And he said as much at a Pumpkins show the other night.

If … If … IF … the Cubs did have a chance this last year that just passed … Fuckin’ Eddie Vedder killed that shit dead. Last I checked Eddie ain’t living here, Okay?

Eddie ain’t living here to write a song about my fuckin’ team.

Now, maybe Corgan has a good point: Vedder had zero (get it???) business writing that song in the middle of the freaking season. But still, trying to pin another almost inevitable collapse at Wrigley on one song written by a guy that didn’t even really say WE WILL WIN THIS YEAR seems a bit overdone and cursey, no?

Then again, maybe that proves what a perfect Cubs fan Corgan really is. Hey, but on the bright side Billy, at least you got your betrayed desires and a piece of the game! Bootleg vid (also from HRD) of the show — and Billy dogging on White Sox fans — after the jump. Be warned Billy’s language is not suitable for children. That means he swears a lot.

i was disappointed b/c i wanted to go saturday but he is not the first person in the history of entertainment to have the flu. he didn't sound very good, but the show was much better than tuesday. and at least they rescheduled the show.
