He's obviously gonna do something. He's got a lot of enemy's in the media business. But an equal amount of friends in high places.

1. Obvious one is start his own podcast. Doing it without the back of a company is risky but he might. Larry doesn't work for anybody and once said he pretty much breaks even. Bernstein idealy want a company to offer him a podcast with a set salary.

2. Work for CHGO. I don't know how this operation survives but it has for a few years. Recent layoffs. But they could hire him. Knock off a few more afford him for like 70k a year I guess. I don't think Bernstein, at his age, would want to be a beat reporter for the Bears or Bulls. Maybe just a podcast 2 or 3 times a week doing the sports talk bullshit. Although there are still older guys then him still doing the beat shit. But I think Bernstein would think going to Lake Forrest daily would be beneath him. Wife might say take what you can get, though.

3. Writing for the Athletic. I think he's friends with the bosses over there. He's had a lot of them on as guests.

Whatever he gets ain't gonna be the same money he had at The SCORE.

My prediction. He'll start his own podcast in a few months. On his own. Not working for anybody. Then the Athletic will hire him to write a few columns for a few bucks. Then hope he has some better avenues after that.

What's your prediction on Bernstein's future?

I think he's out of the game for good.

His interests are what? Basketball, lecturing white people and murdering fish?

I’m not sure how you spin that into a second act.

You might be right. I mean he's 10 years away from social security anyway. Has his Dad's trust fund money that he only has to split with his sister. Has probably saved a decent amount. Wife has that wedding planning business. So nobody should cry for him. Him and his family ain't gonna starve.

But I just think he wants to do something. What is he, 54? He'll do something in media.

I literally think he would have worked at the SCORE until 75 if they would have allowed him. And they might have. Just didn't have to fight with a guy over a stupid fish. What a dumb ass.

Dan isn't going to be hired by a new media company that's trying less successfully to be Barstool, the new media company he hates so much he almost got himself fired a few months ago just to spite one of their representatives. And he's not going to be his own new media company, either, where he has to burn some calories outside of showing up and turning on the mic to make the show go.

Outside of calling it quits the only thing that sounds reasonable is if WMVP makes him an offer and doesn't insult him about sticking to sports.

I'm so torn on this because on one hand, I think he needs to do something more than he wants to--not so much out of financial obligations but because otherwise he'll get lonely and bored. But at the same time, he has seemed so mentally checked out of sports-yakking that it's hard to imagine him going back to that. Ask me again tomorrow and I'll say he's doing late mornings at AM1000 in time for Sox season.

I remember Dan once characterizing startups as jobs for "young and hungry or old and desperate." He's not wrong, but I also don't think he wants to see himself as old and desperate.

Like I said earlier. I think ESPN 1000 is completely out of the question. They just won't do it. For several reasons.

They would have fired Dan over "Boobs". Score didn't. Now he has this other strike against them. We'll see if I'm wrong. But I doubt I am.

Whatever Dan does, won't be a 6 figure salary like he was getting at the SCORE. I'm guessing he peaked at B&B with like a 600k salary. The last few years, cuz of COID and the decline of AM radio, maybe 300k for him. That's counting his endorsement deals that he does at the SCORE.

Who knows, maybe he still has a passion for writing and could be convinced to start a substack. Well, maybe not on substack, but you get the idea. I think he still has enough juice to convince 3 or 4 thousand people to give him $5 a month for regular articles, and if he can walk away with 50% of those subscription fees, or close to it, he has enough of a trickle of cash to convince himself he still has an important job.

The good news is, he doesn't have to make a decision right now.

He kind of sucks at writing.

Maybe he can get a PR gig for the Windy City Bulls or devote himself to a charity that allows non-Directors to donate money.

He can guest host on WCPT and rant about MAGA meatball sports fans.

I remember him saying "we no longer have to embrace the fog" and I got really mad at the thought of embracing fog. What if he was just sandbagging those website columns the whole time because he didn't want to do them?

can't see sports...Dan I believe in his mid 60s so he is heavily into far left political issues. He should do that.

Funny listening to local Barstool and Big Cat talk about why Danny Parkins went so hard for Dan and why Dan(Parkins) hates Barstool so much, which seems odd since they both love gambling.

The hell he is. He's got a two day head start on you, which is more than he needs. Bernstein's got friends in every town and village from here to the Sudan, he speaks a dozen languages, knows every local custom, he'll blend in, disappear, you'll never see him again. With any luck, he's got the grail already.

He will probably do a podcast if he does anything. I wouldn't even be shocked if he and Goff collaborate on one.

Other than that, he is out of the business.

THIS....I still maintain money was a factor in this decision....in the long-term, Audacy just saved themselves money. ESPN isn't going to pay him anything near a respectable amount. In terms of "professional media" I would say he's out of the game.
He will do something, but it will be on his own terms and serve his own interests. Maybe some bruised ego on losing to a troll, but I don't think he'll have any problem walking away from whatever public attention he had left or sports in general. I doubt we will hear from him again.

Bruce Wolf screens cases for a personal injury law firm. If you want to talk to him, call Patrick Salvi's office and tell them you were rear-ended by a Tesla. Bruce will call you back within 15 minutes. Bernstein would be good at that.

Maybe a combination of all of the above. Couldn't he just guest host on various shows or be a guest columnist while he considers future options?

I think he will focus more on his underperforming bachelorette party Cameo business.

Whether it’s a milestone birthday, an anniversary, or a long-awaited reunion, make it unforgettable with a one-of-a-kind Cameo video from Dan Bernstein. You’ll have the chance to customize your request for Dan Bernstein, like asking them to mention inside jokes, share words of wisdom, or work in their signature catchphrases. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your request, especially for celebrations like weddings, retirements, or bachelor and bachelorette parties that call for a good laugh. No matter the occasion, the video will be yours to keep - share the fun and relive the moment for years to come.
