The network is now a big advertiser on the Score, which doesn't really get the word out about the channel but does shut down any legitimate coverage of this story.

Did anyone ever put meat on the bones of "Comcast shut down the old channel on the Hawks, Bulls and Sox with little notice giving them almost no time to slap CHSN together" at all?

if it were true, Reinsdorf would be whining about it constantly to where we'd be aware. Even if they didn't receive official notice they had to know the prior RSN model, and Comcast corp investment, was likely going away.

I think Larry was more defending his many proteges in media

last week during afternoon transition there was making fun of CHSN, Spiegel saying "...ya kind of forget it exists, right?"

Bernstein: "well I have DirecTV...and I do three ad reads a day for them...so I definitely know it exists"

our long regional nightmare is over

https://chicago.suntimes.com/sports-med ... twork-cubs

Comcast won the negotiation handily:

Quote:
Chicago Sports Network is expected to launch on Comcast cable Friday on Xfinity’s Ultimate tier

Xfinity’s Ultimate tier will cost customers an additional $20 per month. Customers had been receiving a monthly credit of $8.85 to offset the loss of NBC Sports Chicago, the teams’ former home, which went off the air Sept. 30.

While CHSN will air on the Ultimate tier, the Cubs’ Marquee Sports Network is expected to remain on the Popular tier through the season and move to the Ultimate tier before next season.

Well, I guess it'll be nice to watch a few Sox games when there's nothing else on.

I still think the endgame is for the leagues to sell as many local rights as they can bundle to a big streamer (or inhouse it altogether with MLBAM).

So...that's cheaper than the $30 a month to watch on my phone or laptop....I sort of liked watching in the car waiting for my kids, at work, etc.

So figure the RSN was getting about $100 a year from every single cable subscriber in a four-state region. The golden age of TV rent-seeking is over.

This is on top of a basic Comcast (XFinity) subscription. You can also watch XFinity via app.

The OTA option has been working splendidly for me. We'll see how long it takes the bloodsuckers at Comcast to shut it down.

Turns out: Less than 24 hours

https://chicago.suntimes.com/sports-med ... blackhawks

Quote:
CHSN made a key concession, at Comcast’s behest, agreeing to sunset over-the-air signals Monday in several markets, including Chicago, where the network has appeared on WJYS subchannels 62.2 and 62.3. The change gives Comcast exclusivity of the signal in those areas. Other markets affected are Peoria and Rockford in Illinois and South Bend and Fort Wayne in Indiana.

What a rugpull for everyone who went out and bought a digital antenna just to watch the Blackhawks finish second-to-last in the league again. Jerry's gotta be kicking himself for not getting into drop-shipping and selling them here.

I haven't had cable since 2009, and I'm not about to sign up now. I'll look into the app.

Why? You’re not missing anything. They are all going to suck for a while yet. The only reason I was watching was in the hope that they broke into one of the games to announce Jerry’s death. I’m certainly not willing to pay that to be one of the first to know.

In between their last game on WGN/WCIU and this spring, I didn't watch the White Sox on television. I know they're dog shit, but I was enjoying the novelty of watching dog shit on TV.

I am disappointed that I am losing the channel with my antenna. I will just find other stuff to entertain me.
