You guys are way low on what you think Fred made. I would say he was in the $125-$150,000 range while doing North's show. Not sure if that could have been reduced or not just doing updates. Definitely a salary dump.

I think the graveyard should reserve a place of another asshat, Danny Mac. He's lucky he still is under contract because money is disappearing rapidly from radio. His bravado should cool down soon or he will be in this section.

As an update guy, Fred was fine.. any worse than the over ego'd george offman?

No matter, what sucks is that you have a guy who did whatever they asked for 16 years - fantasy football, co -host, late nite updates, whatever - and he's done two weeks before Christmas. You may not like his work - but at his age, where else will he go? a little compassion may be appropriate at this time of year -

I don't know the politics or economics of this decision, but I liked Fred.
I'll miss him.

Hope he's gonna be ok, he did have some health issues recently, IIRC.
Sucks to lose a job, no matter who you are.

Might say Fred had an agent? After being on the morning show and doing FIRE games, I am sure he hired someone and when it came to "negotiating', they just said ya and gave it to his "Ari Gold"

I know for a fact that Fred & Offman & Buckman were all making 75-80k each.

You could not be more right. His next contract will be at 30-50% of what he has now, if he re-signs. Deflation is coming to every sphere of the economy...and no half-assed talent will see the kinds of money these guys earn today. Game over...new sheriff in town.

That's the thing of it. If he hadn't spewed the bile that was the "MNMS" with apparent glee, I'd have sympathy. But he didn't. He went for being "Pappy-Lite", or at least a synchophantic lap dog to a bigoted idiot. But, to paraphrase Dennis Green, "He got what I thought he should've gotten"

Sometimes you have to play that game though. Occasionally he'd be on the radio on a Saturday morning (I think) and was okay. He was doing a what he had to to get by. I feel bad for him right now.

But thats exactly it. He was OK. Vanilla, but OK. But then he either became emboldened or negatively influenced by an idiot. And then he took the idiot's advice(or showed his true colors). Which is worse?

As an update guy, is anyone really listening or not listening to the Score because of Fred? Probably not. So what is his value? The same as anyone else that can read the scores.

Mike North did drive revenue. His problem (Besides his show was terrible) was that he computed how much they should pay him based on what they made.

Mac will be fine. He drives revenue and they know that. I highly doubt Mac would be insulted by $750K or a nice raise from what he makes right now. Especially in the climate of his industry.

One thing he will have is some leverage. I can't believe The Score doesnt take a run at him. It would take down ESPN local programming.

Yes, as was Ofman. One was the morning update guy, the other the afternoon update guy. Then they went off the air at sunset.

too bad for huebner he isn't a homosexul. He won't literally suck North's cock like Jen Jen does. If he did, North would have him invovled on his webio/tv/gambling shows like he does with jen jen.

As far as Fred and money, isn't his wife a doctor? It seems to me when he talked about himself he sounded like he led a pretty comfortable life. Am I confusing him with another Score guy?

Biggie, there are hosts there I can say the same thing about. If I listen to them, it's more a function of what time it is more than "I gotta listen to 'X'".

As for Mac, he's in good position so long as 1000 wants a local presence. If that goes away, to an all-CT lineup, then who knows?

I think Fred's wife is a guidance counselor or some big wig at some high school. Hinsdale perhaps.

Why wouldnt ESPN let MJH try and play in some other other cities? They might work

Hey BF, maybe you could get a hold of Freddy to see if he would be interested in posting here. I know he reads the board because he made reference to Good Dolphin a while back...

You must be kidding. What other market would want to hear Horseshit Harry blowing local jocks? Do you think there is a large market to hear about 80's bands? People who want to hear about sports really don't listen to what this show has become. I guess the new ratings system shows that this show isn't as big as they thought.

I appriciate the kind words that some of you had for me as I left WSCR last Friday. Being anywhere 16 years, you leave a llot of friends and great memories behind.

As for those who were happy I was launched...that's your right.

I never tried to get people to like me or hate me. I just did what I though was right for the various shows I was on.

I appreciate people saying I was a good update person, but I had been doing things like that since SportsPhone in 1972, so I should have learned something.

CBS offered me a nice severance package. Thanks to everyone for being concerned about my health. This should give me time to get better and be ready for whatever come my way in 2009.

As for Chris in Joliet...I am a Sox fan...you are not. Sometimes I ask people to look through their allegiances when listening to the radio. I picked the Cubs to win their division the last @ years...but did I want them to win the World Series...No I didn't. I was being honest. You will find people that lie and bring up debates on the radio just to draw listeners. I was never like that.

No matter what you listen to, it is getting tough for the entire sports radio business in this town. To be honest, I thought sports talk would thrive with the Sirius/XM radios listeners but I was apparently wrong.

I don't check back here often, but I had to look you guys up after Friday.

Everyone have a great holiday...even you Chris!

Fred

Good luck to you Fred....While I liked you as a co-host with Murph and as an overall update guy, I didn't like you during your time on the MNMS because you seemed to be a "Archie Bunker" type of fellow. But I never like to see anyone lose their job, especially looking as though I may be on the unemployment line myself. I'm sure you'll show up somewhere doing something. Best of health you to Frederico...I'll have to rely on Ofman or Paruch to inform me of "Ozone Action Day"...

We got Fred!!!! He finally talked to the evil message board people.

16 years is a long time. You weren't a great host but nobody said "Bulls play the Knicks tonight at the UC" or "Tank Johnson got arrested again" better than you. Hope all is well with your health.

Grab the wife. Dance around the living room. This ones for you, Fred.

Fred,

i don't understand why you went from co-host with murph to lapdog/yes man with north. Was the money that much better to sell out your right to speak your mind on air ? At least murph gave you some respect. And why in the world would you proclaim to be a sports handicapper when both you and north never did anything other than make predictions on the air or in the paper( in north's case) It was a bad atempt by north to make a fast buck off the few listeners he had left.
