God bless Kev and his family. I used to be a big fan back when AM1000 was strong from dusk til dawn.

MS is a horrible disease to have (not there are many that you'd want). I have been watching a good friend's dad just lose all motor skills over the last few years. Mind is still sharp but even walking to the bathroom is tough. Good luck Kev.

That's terrible! I was a big "KevHead" dating back to when he hosted middays on the old "AM LOOP" in the late '80s, and actually had a chance to meet Kevin firsthand when he hosted an event out in Willowbrook in the mid '90s. I also took in a pair of "Tavern Tour" events where Kev performed live, once at Joe's on Weed St. & was part of the audience when he had a CD Release Party at the downtown House of Blues before he switched over to the defunct CD 94.7 as morning man & midday host at the defunct WCKG before 105.9 FM became "Fresh" last year. Let's light a candle for Kev to have a speedy recovery. This fan misses him here in Chicago!

As far as I know, there is no cure for MS.

That is a shame. Godspeed Kev!

He was on Roe Conn earlier this year. He basically co-hosted the show that day. Still funny as hell, and his son is a helluva guitarist. www.trevormenear.com

It was the most suitable forum:

MEDIA GRAVEYARD
All those who once had a career in the public/sports media eye. (WSCR/ESPN in particular )

He's no longer in Chicago, and used to work at AM1000.

I hope Jim Shorts is okay.

Seriously, I had a driving job I hated in 89. Kevin got me through those days. For a time, he was the funniest in Chicago.

I wonder what his symptom was that gave the clue he had MS.

In May of 04 I woke up one morning and the sight in my left eye was not the same. Two days later my vision in my left eye was totally gone. Doctors diagnosed it as optic neuritis and said that was the first sign of possible MS. I went through numerous tests and a few weeks later was told it was not MS. My vision never fully came back to my left eye and it is basically a fog. If the same thing happend to my right eye I would be screwed.

Still go for tests every 18 months and still lucky enough to say no MS.

My prayers go out to Mr Matthews. I always enjoyed his show.

Good luck to Kev.

He was part of the greatest lineup that I ever listened to on the radio and, for a time, I thought he was the funniest of all of them.

Long before AM 1000 became ESPN Radio, Doc, Kevin Matthews was part of quite a lineup of personality-driven talk in the late '80s. The old "AM Loop" featured a simulcast of Jonathon Brandmeier's "Showgram" with its former "FM Loop" counterpart in morning drive, with Kev middays, Steve Dahl & Garry Meier afternoons, Chet Coppock/Bulls' basketball at night...It was quite the lineup some 2 decades ago.

Krazy, that's what AM 1000 called itself back then...If I'm not mistaken, Larry Wert was General Managing the "AM Loop" before becoming the GM at NBC5.

You are a little slow sometimes, secretary  . I was talking about the "Parts Unknown" location in your profile.

Even when Bonnaduce had a show with AM1000; that was incredible lineup. It was a time you set your radio onto 1000, never took it off for days at a time.

I used to love different hosts calling in to Eddie Schwartz under assumed names. I believe the lineup was

Stern
Brandmeier
Dahl
Mathews
Chet
Schwartz

How great of a lineup is it when Kevin Mathews is doing live night shows?

I don't think Stern was on when Matthews was doing nights. I thought Matthews was doing nights in the mid-late 80s when he first got in town then moved to middays around 87 or 88 and Chet's show went on at night after that move.

I don't remember Stern even being on in this market until the mid-90s.
