Are you looking for a public mea culpa proclamation? I would argue that both sides have been duly "rewarded." Hayes is gone, so is The Mike.

Congratulations on the bonuses, but was it really the station's mission to finish in the top 6? With the money paid to North, wasn't the true goal to beat ESPN head-to-head in the morning? I think most of us saw the fairly consistent losses to Mike & Mike here in a city known to be partial to local sports talk and also known for hating the whole ESPN New York-Boston axis and viewed the MNMS as a failure mainly because of that. Sems to me the offer to basically cut Mike's salary in half for the new contract supports that view.

Yeah, and so are kids who "scream in restaurants and run around in grocery stores" and you've made it clear how you feel about them.

North was the radio equivalent of a kid screaming in a restaurant. Just say something in a loud, annoying voice into a microphone. Something with no intelligent thought behind it, something only calculated to get attention.

Why do rap people get so bent out of shape about any negative comment? They're like Mac people.

Oh, by Mac people, I mean the computers, not the host, although I think both could apply.

Sucks that we lost one of the only people on sports radio that was actually a soccer fan. I remember years ago, when the Fire started playing, Fred was about the only one that would mention them on updates. Are you still on the hook for Fire games next year?

Most gratuitous cheapshots toward things that I like tend to rub me the wrong way.

Because "rap people" don't usually go around bashing everyone elses preference in music. For some reason, people are still too stubborn to give Hip Hop it's due. You don't have to like it, but if I want to here someone whining about rap music I'll talk to my Grandmother...

I'll include emoticons from now on, if that makes you feel better. And pretty soon I'll be making cheapshots towards things you hate, so it will even out.

Feel free to make jokes about scotch, atonal opera, or the movie "Planes, Trains and Automobiles." Actually, scotch is off-limits.

If you ever had a chance to hear when I filled in for Mike, or maybe a weekend show I did...I was a big fan of a caller driven show. You guys are the ones listening, if we got you interested and you wanted to contribute, I always thought you should.

Mike ran his show differently...everyone does.

BTW, when Murph and I were told that we were being taken off the mornings, they told us that they felt we had done as much as we could in morning drive talking only sports and they wanted to expand the show to news and entertainment topics.

North was brought in with that in mind. If you remember, it was months before the Presidential election. Mike and Anne would argue about politics, and that was a time you REALLY didn't hear much of me.

Thanks for the insight into the Score, Fred. I guess we're getting confirmation of what we all thought.

Score management is stupid and Pappy is stupid.

You must have been floored when Pappy turned down 750k, right Fred?

He'll never make that yearly salary ever again. This TV thing will fail and that show will be off the air in a year. No way he's getting anywhere near 750k to do the Comcast show. Maybe 100k tops. Once that fails Pappy will never be on the air again.

Fred...a personal question, but any chance you could come back for less and make Murph's show good again like the morning show was?

Sure. I also have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale if you believe that "rap people" don't go around bashing everyone else's taste.

The very nature of music fans IS to make fun of someone else's stuff. It's always been "Its cooler to listen to....than to listen to the shit you do."

Yeah. Who cares? Fred shouldn't like rap. That makes sense. Who cares if he bashes it? You can still like it. Why is it so important to make 51 year old white guys like rap music?

Nobody is gonna make people in their 20s and 30s like Sinatra and Dean Martin. We can bash that shit.

No kidding. North may never make that much money for the rest of his life...in total. Seriously, he is going to continue thinking he can do big market media and he can't. He'll take these little test jobs like Sun-Times and Comcast as a stepping stone to the big one that he is sure is out there. His ego will keep him from getting a real job until he is nearly unemployable. He literally may not make that much combined for the rest of his life.

I'm in my 20's, I love Tony Bennett. I think Sinatra is cool. I'm not the biggest Rock fan, but I don't bash it. I hear radio hosts and other older white males act as though people are morons if they don't like Led Zeppelin(sp) or the Rolling Stones. But that's ok for some reason. So I guess I should think they are morons if they don't like Slick Rick, A Tribe Called Quest and Eric B & Rakim...

Fred, any inside info you can share with us on Anne Maxfield? Was the whole MNMS thing a really bad experience for her? Do you think she realized early on that her role and the show in general weren't really working? She must have come to that realization by the end because didn't she walk with a little time still remaining on her contract? Do any of you still keep in touch with her?

Ok. I really don't give a shit about music. I mean, I like some shit but I have no passion for any specific type of music or any group. I basically like whatever is popular. I'll just listen to the radio. I don't buy music.

Maybe that's why I don't understand the big deal about who likes what or who bashes what.

Can you also talk about the weirdness of the Jen/Pappy thing, Fred? Her quick rise to Pappy's radio/business partner. Pappy's waitress to Pappy's news women. That must have been something to watch on a daily basis. You can talk freely about that now, Fred.

I always like to believe it was us. I remember discussing the idea of a Meier and/or Conn show here, doing general topics. Then someone decided to do it with North!!!

A good place to put a joke about using a screwdriver to do a hammer's job, or vice-versa.

Prediction: Fred won't touch this topic with a ten-foot pole unless it's to say Jen was/is great and there was/is nothing weird about it.

As far as I am concerned, you guys have created, maybe wishful thinking, the whole weirdness between Mike and Jen.

Jen got into the station as an intern...did her job...and as a producer, let's be honest, atletes and other media types would like to talk to a good looking blonde, than one of us media types. Jen was able to get us the guests that other producers tried and couldn't.

Too many times people think that a good looking girl had to "do something" to get her job. Jen did...busted her butt to become one of the best producers in town.

Say what you want...but that's the truth.

As for Anne, I don't know what she was told the job would be when she took it, but I do think she hoped to be more involved. The entire show was put together when they wanted an emphasis on "more than sports". When the program managers changed, they wanted to swing back to more of a sports show, and that left Anne out of the loop a bit.

Her birthday was last week...I hear she is doing fine.
