fred, your opinion is your opinion, but to say she is one of the best producers in town is sorta curious. If that was the case, wouldn't she still have a job at the score or at least at another radio station? If she was, in my opinion, she made a horrible career choice based on the fact that she has been connected to the now dead dontfademe.com, a webio show no one knows about and making sure she gets mikes 30 second videos on youtube.

Let me ask you this, once she became the exc. producer of the mike north morning show, how many books did the show win, my guess is not as many as they lost, which would cost many in those same poistions their job.

As far as the creepiness goes, I don't think anyone here created that, that's on pappy. I am not ragging on you fred, always liked your work when given the chance to be on the air, just dont agree with you on that specific comment.

Fred-
You will be missed my friend. I personally thought you were one of the most funny and hilarious guys on the air, especially during more of the improvised segments - and also - those where you let the fans interact.

You are a first class and respected on air talent that will always be a part of Chicago sports radios fabric. You should know that, if by anything, the response you've received on this forum.

For what it is worth, I was the guy Stu (or whatever random alias I felt like using) who would give you heat during MIKES RANTS regarding your affinity for "picking your nose, picking your bellybutton, smelling your armpit or sticking your hand down your pants and then into the popcorn bucket" at the movie theater that you visited to watch one of the flicks for FREDS movie reviews.

Hope you are well and stay well. Thank you for your entertainment - it will be missed.

Ok. I really don't give a shit about music. I mean, I like some shit but I have no passion for any specific type of music or any group. I basically like whatever is popular. I'll just listen to the radio. I don't buy music.

Maybe that's why I don't understand the big deal about who likes what or who bashes what.

That's fine Beardown. But the thing is it ISN'T about who likes what- if Fred said he hated Outkast for example, I wouldn't care. But when you dismiss an entire genre in the blink of an eye, it makes you look bitter and foolish. Just shut your mouth. It's a total lack of respect. Like Magic1, I'm not a big fan of country music. But I don't go around saying it's hillbilly music or whatever. There have been plenty of influential country artists and I respect them even if I don't care for it. No one cares if Fred likes rap and no one is suggesting he try it. But the more I think about it his statement sounds like someone who feels they've seen everything in life and would be content just laying on the couch watching Everybody Loves Raymond reruns. Why shouldn't you try new things? If you don't like them OK, no big deal. But it basically sounds like to me "my life is basically over, I've seen everything I need to see, if I don't know about it or like it by now it's too late"

Exactly correct.

No one here kept talking on the air about how cute Jen is or what she's wearing.
No one here introduced her to read the news by saying, "She's cute as a button, isn't she?"
No one here wrote in her bio on dontfademe.com, "Yes, she's gorgeous!"
No one here does interviews and giggles like a high-schooler as he tries to decide if his relationship with Jen is like father/daughter or brother/sister.

I can tell you this: Where I work, if some 56 year-old guy developed such a close relationship with a co-worker half his age and kept boasting about it and how cute she is, people would sure as hell think it's creepy.

Fred, are you at liberty to share any details with us as to what exactly happened with dontfademe.com? Why Hub's name and picture was yanked off the site so abruptly, why the hookup with Lang, why Mike pulled the plug on his "dream" of being a professional handicapper so quickly?

Fred,

Everyone is entitled to their opinion; but from observation (as well as through Mike and Jen talking in interviews) it comes across as a strange relationship. Do we have fun with it? Yes. But trust me, its because the two of them give us a lot of material to work with.

Plus, the whole age difference/borderline sexual harrassment which I understand the two of them work as entertainers, I get that. But come on, Fred. How many co-workers have you had over when they were wearing a Halloween costume and then put a picture of her up on your website? Mike did that a few years back, that's creepy. (And I don't think I'm blowing the sexual harrassment out of proportion. If I talked to a co-worker the way Mike flirts with Jen; I'd be sitting in with the upper management really quickly. And I'm sure I'm not the only guy here who would get into trouble with that type of talk.)

Look, I know you're friends with Jen and Mike. You might understand the two of them better. But Mike has really made a crappy bed to lie in with most of the listening audience. His behavior when it comes to Jen is just a part of what people find odd about the guy.

Oh, and I forgot . . . no one here went on the air at the Super Bowl and said that he'd pay Jen if she'd walk around the hotel room in a bathing suit and heels. Nope, not creepy at all, huh?

Go sell crazy somewhere else, we're all filled up here.

Seriously, this is the sychophantic crap that made you and Annie, Steve and Idie...."That's right Frank!" I have no problem if you don't want to break bad on former co workers. I would not do that either. Don't come here and present outrageous opinions as fact and expect us to ignorantly accept them. We have eyes, we have ears. We all heard the work product and the results.

The hallmarks of the show were poor preparation and little creativity. Those fall squarely on the shoulders of a producer. She may have worked hard, she did not work well.

I think the comments by Rock on the "Ask Rock" section of the Mully & Hanley board--about how different his duties are now involving show prep and creativity--support the above point of view.

I think my question was lost in the overwhelming response to Fred getting on the board, so I'll ask it again. Fred, would you take less money and work with Murph again to make his show decent? Or maybe you and the grobber can put something together...

Rza produced most of the soundtrack and score in the KILL BILL movies. I bet theyre are 51 year old white men (which ill be in a couple decades plus) all over the country that liked that movie and like the music.

Point: RZA rules

some quick random answers...this is kind of fun.

Why would I want to take less money than I was making to do anything. I was about in the middle of all of your guesses last week. Not money any radio station can't afford if the show brings in revenue. I would love to work with Murph again, and Les and I have know each other since the early days of SportsPhone.

As for producer preparation for any given show, that is entirely based on what your hosts want you to do. There seem to be many more highlight oriented segments in the new morning show, which obviously is more time consuming than putting together an open for a given show.
BTW, Rock is the BEST. No one better that I had ever run into in my years in radio.

As for Don't Fade Me...

I knew almost nothing about the site.

I gave Mike my picks, (and by the way, there was a 3 out of 4 week run where I picked 4 of 5 NFL winners!), he put them up and that was that.

You think ANYONE out there can consitently pick winners in this NFL against the spread, good luck. They are all guessing. I did my homework, but I have never been a trend guy.

Fred, get a little off the wall on this one...who would be your favorite pairing of the guys on the Score (not currently together)...and who have you never worked with there (the whole roster, including those who have left) that you'd do a show with (limit 1 or 2). I agree, this is fun...

Hmmm . . . Rock is the best at what he does, Jen is one of the best producers in town, Mike North is a legend and an icon . . . gee, Fred, maybe YOU were the one dragging that thing down!

Just kidding, of course. If I really felt that way, my screen name would be "Hueb's a Boob" or something like that.

Fred,

It was good to hear a familiar voice on some of the televised Fire games this year. Will you be back next season for any of the WPWR broadcasts?

I should read my own web site every once in a while. Welcome Fred.

Always thought Muprh and Fred was a decent show. Better than MNMS any day.

Fred's right. We go way back, and other than Sportsphone,we worked together for the 4 1/2 years I was at the Score and played plenty of Basketball and Softball on the same team(he could drill the baseline jumper, and was a very good power hitter!). His work on the air is unquestioned and he should be back on the air. By him being let go, that's more proof that the Score we all knew in the past, is no longer in exsistence(even though I have some friends I repect-still there).
Above everything, I'm very glad Fred's health is apperently OK.That's more important than anything.
