Cubs reportedly met with Milton Bradley Sunday night, not sure how I feel about this possibility.

He's a head case, but he's also a good fucking hitter and an on-base machine. I'd take him.

You just know that Bradley would bring the RED ASS out in Lou. It would make for some great theatre when it happened, but I'm not sure it would be worth the aggravation. I would rather they get Abreau, but Bradley is a hell of a player when he's not being a hell of a pain...

This would be about the worst move Hendry could make. Not only is he a malcontent he's injury prone (games played below) and an AWFUL defensive player. Sure he's coming off a decent year but EVERYBODY hits in Texas. Trading for a young player like Hermidia or Teahen would be a MUCH better option.

I know it's not a tangible thing, but team chemistry counts for something, and I think Bradley would hurt it - I don't think I'd like the move...

My problem with Bradley is that can he stay healthy playing right field and the occassional center field? Only once has he played more than 126 games in a season according to the Sun-Times, and can he play the outfield on a consistent basis at his age?

Regarding his personality, maybe I am way off base but I wonder maybe if the Cubs need a guy who has a screw loose. Playing for the Cubs you are put under the microspope and under extreme pressure to win. This Cub team doesn't seem to respond to the pressure. This cubs team seems to lack an edge, a feistiness. Maybe a guy like Bradley is what the Cubs need, an eccentric character.

The Red Sox won in '04 with a bunch of "idiots". Maybe the Cubs need a few more for their collection along with zambrano.

I would still go with Abreau first, but if Abreau doesn't work out, i don't think Bradley would be a bad idea.

Bradley may have the most upside. But he also has the greatest potential for screwing things up. I'll take Abreau or Ibanez instead. If they do choose Bradley, we should put together a pool for the date that he and Lou have at it. You just know it would happen. It would only be a question of when.

I'm still on board for Teahan...that's their best move and it will cost the least. Royals have to get rid of one...

I'd be happy if they brought in Bradley. Not to get all "fire and da passion" but the Cubs clubhouse needs a kick in the ass. Lou can only do so much. Again, the Cubs aren't coming off such great postseason success that they dare not mess with the "chemistry." They have the talent, what they're missing is the chemistry. Bradley can tell Z to shut the fuck up a glare at anybody that irritates him. Hell the Cubs should sign Carl Everett and Randy Johnson too. Hate can make the Cubs more powerful than we can possibly imagine.

According to Bruce Levine, Bradley is a done deal and will be officially signed in the next 5-15 days. He will be the regular right fielder, with Reed Johnson and Fukadome sharing center. Gathwright would be a late inning replacement and when he comes into games, Gathwright would play center with Fukadome taking over in right.

Considering the other options out there, I am good with Bradley.

If Dunn was not such a horrible fielder, I would rather have him. But Bradley will be a good left handed bat in the middle of that order and he is pretty good in the field too.

As bad as he is in the outfield and with Soriano it would be comically bad...I have this feeling the Cubs should get Adam Dunn and I dont know why they're so against it.
Apparantly he's telling his agent to try and drum up interest with the Cubs.

And like I said as bad as he is in the field...you can move him to 1b when DpLee moves on and theres something to be said for having a durable Power left handed bat to produce 40 hr and 100 BB every year.

I would bet the idea of playing in Wrigley makes Dunn want to play with the Cubs. He has always hit well there.

But I just cannot see him playing RF there. It is a tough spot to play for even a good defensive guy, and he has a hard enough time playing LF.

THE THOUGHT OF SORIANO AND BRADLEY IN THE SAME OUTFIELD IS LAUGHABLE. BUT IM NOT LAUGHING CAUSE THIS IS MY TEAM. I SURE HOPE HIS BAT MAKES MORE NOISE THAN HIS GLOVE!!

Bradley will suck, miss 50 games and throw multiple tantrums. He will be the new Todd Hundley. Only he wll probably enter the stands at some point and assualt someone. Terrible signing if it becomes official.

Conns-is that your imitation of PANIC!!! ???? He was one of the handful of top left handed hitting outfielders available on the free agent market. He's a loose cannon and I would much rather have Abreau, but he led the American league in on base plus slugging. The guy isn't a crap player.

bradley played 20 games in the field for texas last season! 20! and he STILL couldnt stay healthy! now he has to play RF every day. he is a below-average RF. he isnt a crap player, he is an unhealthy player, and for 30 million who wants that? for that kind of dough, i want a guy you can hang your hat on to play every day.

I think I have made it clear that I wasn't a big fan of this move and would rather they sign Abreau, but I still can see why teams had interest in him. When he is healthy (mentally and physically) he's a darn good hitter. His defensive play is going to be a step down from Fukadome for sure. But Fukadome will likely shift over to right while Reed Johnson takes over in Center in a lot of games, when they want to get their best defensive players on the field to protect their many leads. Who knows, maybe Lou will even move Gathwright into the outfield late in games for Soriano. Lou's gonna be a busy guy.

Thought I would bring this thread back to remind everyone what people were saying at the time of his signing.
