Just read where the Cubs are interested in possibly signing Randy Johnson to a one-year deal.

Although he's likely a first ballot Hall-of-Famer once he retires, Randy Johnson is NOT getting any younger at age 45 and there are legitimate issues with his back. I thought the Cubs got rid of 2 guys who were the walking billboards for Blue Cross & Blue Shield in Mark Prior last year & Kerry Wood yesterday...I'd steer clear of Randy...

Assuming they aren't giving him too much money, what's the harm? You can never have too much good pitching...

ERA under 4 last two years...I'd hardly call that bad...maybe good was too much, but certainly not bad...but fine, if you guys don't want him, I hope my Redbirds take a flyer on him...God knows if we can get valuable innings out of guys like Wellenmeyer and Weaver we should be able to get something out of him...

Just because we can't beat the Big Eunich doesn't mean he'll be worth much playing for us. There's a long and infamous list of Cub Killers who then came to the Cubs and continued killing them with their suddenly craptacular performances.
I feel RJ would be the 942nd installment on that hapless series of players. :x

I doubt it's sincere interest. They want to bring Dempster back. Showing some interest without making an offer, might put it into Dempster's mind , that he isn't the only option and he might want to take the 4 year-50 million dollar offer! I sure don't want a guy that old, that has back problems to boot. I really doubt this will happen.

Randy Johnson would help some team on a 1 year deal, but it shouldn't the Cubs. They already have one guy in the rotation (Rich Harden) who's going to miss (in a good year) 5-7 starts. They don't need two guys who will constantly be missing starts. I'm guessing that this is a way, long-shot possibility.

What is it with the Cubs? Randy Johnson?? He's 45 years old and a "has-been". You know he won't be able to pitch in the cold weather in Chicago, his aged muscles will ache.

If they get the Unit and Dempster back, it would be the ugliest starting rotation in history.

the difference between this being a good move and a bad move is simply how much money they invest. At a bargain price, why not take a look?

He was bait. This is nothing more than an attempt to devalue Peavy as one of the only potential Padres trading partners.

RJ signed with the Giants. As much as it pains me to say this is a very good signing by Sabean.

We'll see. I'm not a bit disappointed the Cubs didn't sign him. He's nowhere near the pitcher he used to be. As a 5th starter, I'm not even sure he would have been an upgrade over Marquis or Marshall. He was one of the very best at one time. But that time has long passed.

better than Marshall? No. Better than Marquis? If he stays healthy the whole season, yes. He won't so I'm not too put out. They have bigger things to do before they're a world series contender.

Glad they didn't sign him the last thing the Cubs need is another brittle pitcher.

Of course your not...the cubs didnt get him so he sucks. If they did youd be talking about his wrigley numbers and playoff experience.
Of course it was another brilliant non move by Hendry

If not Brian Roberts then NO ONE!!!!!!
