First off....what's up fellas!!

The ratings came out again this week, and yet again just like every other past winter book, sports radio did absolutely nothing in the ratings. It's still a neck and neck race with us and MVP, it probably always will be, but I'm sure just like many of you have predicted, the Sox will help us out in the coming books the rest of the year, and you just might see us pull ahead of MVP. Honestly, I don't understand why do sports radio in the months of Dec/Jan/Feb/March....it's just so dreadful, and anyone who knows sports knows that as well.

As for our show, yeah we took a dive, but then again everyone else did too. No spin, no lies, nothing....we had a poor book, but in my mind....I think the last couple of weeks shows with the Bulls making a run into the playoffs, with the Sox on a roll, with the Cubs doing excellent with all the injuries they've incurred, and the whole AJ/Crede haircuts thing in which we got plenty of publicity and airtime on every station in the market and some national....I think we've done some good radio in the last couple of weeks. It's not radio hall of fame by no stretch, but it's been good radio from my listening vantage point.

The morale of the show has never been higher, it's getting easier to come to work now that there is at least something sports-wise to talk about. Baseball is back in swing, and with that the sports climate in Chicago only gets hotter. We've added AJ/Cooper and welcoming back Dempster for his weekly hit on the show. We've added Barry Rozner who never runs out of things to say. Steve Stone is back again, another big hit for the station. The Bookie Priest is a big bit (whether you guys like it or not). We're constantly bringing new ideas to the table, and expect the next 6-8 months to be really good for not only our show, but the station as a whole.

Couple of things I wanna clear up:
1. We do take calls.....and the phones are always open if you wanna chat.
2. We don't have billboards/signage...but then again, I don't think we ever have had signage anywhere at anytime.
3. Big fan of Corrosion Of Conformity, In The Arms Of God is an amazing album.
4. To nostradamus.....I hope you realize what you're doing by posting internal memos on these boards.
5. Keep in mind, although our show is on a sports radio station, we've never advertised that our show is a sports radio show. Sure, you hear the promos "Mike North Talks Sports...." etc.....but we are an all topics show. We talk more sports than anything, but this morning for example we got on the topic of immigration for a whole 30-35 mins...full phones, took calls, and was a good segment and a half of radio. MNMS is all topics, and whatever we feel like bringing up...we're not confined by any script/rules/etc. that we have to follow.
6. The show is fun, and I work with 5 people that enjoy being around each other, working our asses off, and putting out the best product we can do on the radio. It may not be reflected in the papers all the time, but whatever we do on the radio is what I believe in and work for.

NFL Draft is tomorrow.....gotta get some shut eye.....that was your spin.

-Rock

Please explain how you have made the determination that the bookie priest is a big hit.
There are no ratings for the bit.
How is it a hit?
Inquiring minds want to know.

You kind of contradict your self. In number 5 of your reasoning you say that you are a "all talk format" then you say earlier that the show is down because sports are down. All of the other shows can use that excuse. But not yours. You have a girl doing news and North commenting on issues so you are targeting more then just the sports fan. Plus Mike and Mike finished 3rd in the key male demo. Even with the lousy sports action of the winter. It's good to see that moral has never been higher. That goes to prove the theory that ignorance is bliss.

#5 is the reason your show sucks. If I want to hear discussion of immigration, rising fuel costs, the war, etc., there are far better options up and down the dial. Why would I turn to an ignorant, ill informed, high school dropout for anything other than who the Bears should draft. Hell, I'm leery of turning to him for THAT. I'd like to think that the people on the airwaves commenting on serious issues are AT LEAST as smart as me, and probably smarter. Paying a guy to talk about world affairs using de's, dem's, and do's is ludicrious. Play time's over Pappy. Go back to what you know, or what you used to know.

Rock, thanks for posting, but your post is all crap. Your show took a huge dive because it sucks. The book priest was a nice 1 time bit, but to say it is a huge hit is just more bull. It is annoying, just like the whole show. You guys don't even know who to compete against, but are losing on ALL fronts. Not only do you not attract new listeners, but have LOST many longtime listeners.
North is an over the hill hasbeen and couldn't attract flees to Lik.

The whole concept sucks. Who in the hell is your target audience? You guys don't even know. The show is a complete disaster and certainly not getting any better.

Who would listen to this crapfest for serious news or political thoughts? The mentally infirmed? The illiterate? Highschool dropouts? Just who?
For news, general info, and now even sports, there are many other quality choices to make and the North show is not among them.
Enjoy going to work, I'M HAPPY FOR YOU, but the rest of the city certainly disagrees with you as the ratings show.
You once told us to give the show 18 months and we'd love it, well time is up and the show sucks.

#4 is a threat to nostodamus. I agree its stupid and uninteresting and probrally illegal to print that stuff. But nothing will come of it. You think Mitch has the ability to go to corporate and ask for this to be litiagated. C'mon Rock he's dumped all the petty cash into your Pappy and his 1.2 arbitron number. By the way that's why your station can't afford the precious billboard. The boys in New York will just laugh at him.

Here's something else to consider about the whole North thing. It's obvious that no one on North's show gives our opinions any creedence whatsoever. While we are a small percentage of any station's listening audience, we are prime consumers of sports talk. Anyone with half a brain would come over here and use our opinions (the lucid ones, anyway) as free market research. Jeezus, we care enough about sports talk to have a FUCKING MESSAGE BOARD DEDICATED TO IT, yet according to Rock, we're a small minority and don't reflect the whole....bullshit. The Arbitrons only reflect a small minority of the listeners too, but those numbers send stations into a frenzy when they come out, and they set the ad rates stations can charge. I'm not saying that we're the be all end all, but I think we're the exact people North needs to cater to if he wants to see those piss poor #s go up and justify that salary. Mikey's forgotten who put him on the map, and he's surrounded himself with yes-men who don't have the intestinal fortitude to say the Bookie Priest isn't the most important radio bit since Animal Stories. The ratings suck because of everything we've said here and then some. Choose to ignore our (and the hundreds of thousands of other listeners who've punched the button never to return) opinions, stay insulated from reality and watch the numbers get worse and worse. Get that resume ready, kids. I've noticed a certain producer from a certain other show who has taken tidbits from posts on here and suggested changes. Maybe the MNMS can lower their level of hubris, and listen to the common folk who consume the product...but hopefully not, the quicker North's gone, the better for the market.

I doubt it's illegal. If anything it's against company policy. The bigger issue should be that there's no respect for the boss who writes the memos. Maybe Mitch needs to re-examine his management style since there's so much discord within the offices.

Even if their are only 20 of us here that hate Pappy I still know we represent the majority of people who don't listen. Whatever. It's funny to me and I'm happy he didn't listen to us. His failure is far more entertaining anyway.

Rock tried to imply that it was illegal in his post. Maybe he did that at the request of Mitch to scare off Nos. I wouldn't doubt that.

You could tell this to Rock and Pappy forever. They will never listen. I mean they know what there doing. They don't just hand these radio jobs to anyone. Bad ratings be dammed we are gonna do the same thing. How can Bookie Priest be as popular as Rock claims when nobody listens to the damn show at all.

Once again Rock can't use the slow sports in the winter excuse. I mean his ability to talk politics and religion should combat this right? Rock that half hour of immigration talk must have been great radio. I didn't here it but I'll bet Pappy did the "who's gonna cut my lawn joke" or " we should just build a wall" and then laughed. Then the full bank of 50 year old Pappy clones agreed while annie sighed and Fred said "thats absolutely correct Mike."

WSCR and Pappy made this format change to crack the top 5 of overall listeners and he can't even beet the national show that ESPN pumps out. After all of their excuses they can never explain how Mike and Mike are number 3 in male demo while they suck. I know. I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Therefore, given the second statement, you cannot use the first as an excuse for your shit ratings. Gotcha.

Your show takes a small handful of calls. I wouldn't exactly call your show a call-in show.

Do you realize that your show is on an all-sports station. I don't tune into 890AM to hear sports talk, and I certainly don't tune into 670AM for political rants. Sports stations already don't have much of a female audience - why add it do by turning people off to what they want to hear - which is sports talk. Mike may have great opinions on immigration, and like him, I'm a conservative, but that doesn't mean I want to hear his opinions, of his socialist sidekick traffic reporter.

What a BUNCH-of-HORSE-SHIT !!!!

Is NOS gonna get whacked????

Bottom line is Rock is "so Afraid" of Mike North he cant even be honest with us.

Its like this Rock.

I'm a SPORTS fan. Even that dork Tom Shaer was on, I listened because I did get some sports and some entertainment.

READ THIS PART CLOSELY- I dont listen now EVER because of MIKE, The format, ANNE, MIKE, BEBE, MIKE, YOU YA KISS ASS, MIKE, and mostly because of the arrogance that all of you have. Arrogance that you shouldnt have because numbers, voices (US), and bad press show that your SHOW SUCKS.

READ CLOSELY---- YOUR SHOW SUCKS!

And NOS? I dont know how you do it but If I were you, I put everything you got on here. Even Mitch's grocery list that he gave to Jesse.

I watch "24" and I just saw "The Sentinel" where Keefer Sutherland says maybe Michael Douglas is not only the guy in charge - maybe he's also the informant...ergo - is Rock really double-agent Nostradamus?

Rock, do you post here to intentionally start crap or are you actually trying to contribute. If it's the latter, why do you post what you did and never bother to respond when VERY valid points are made? I can understand that you're loyal to your employer and co-workers but you write stuff like this and never follow up or engage in discussion. I'd think you don't like getting ripped on like this so why even bother? Either shit or get off the pot.

The problem is, every single important person at that damn station is all about protecting Mike North. In their eyes, Mike North can do no wrong. For the not so "big" people at that station, they have no problem slamming North behind scenes, but are scared to death if anyone important ever finds out.

Everybody has treated North like he's some radio god despite poor ratings and failure at 2 other time slots. It's the biggest mystery ever. Even at his peak it's not like he was producing blockbuster ratings in the radio industry.
