The ratings came out again this week, and yet again just like every other past winter book, sports radio did absolutely nothing in the ratings.
Enjoy it, Rock. Probably SCR's last winter book as an English-language station.

It's still a neck and neck race with us and MVP,
Don't give us this crap. MVP broke your neck a long time ago. That's pathetic. How the hell can a local sports show lose to the national program?
Rock wrote:
it probably always will be,
Rock, hablas espanol? Si la respuesta es no, mi consejo es que estudias el idioma por que tu estacion se va a cambiar muy pronto.

but I'm sure just like many of you have predicted, the Sox will help us out in the coming books the rest of the year,
What is the clause in the Sox contract regarding a format change? Shift them to CKG? Maybe BBM?

and you just might see us pull ahead of MVP.
Who you crappin'?

Honestly, I don't understand why do sports radio in the months of Dec/Jan/Feb/March....
I wish I knew what the hell you were trying to say here. I think you "do sports radio in the months of Dec/Jan/Feb/March" because there are numerous sports stories during those months, and because you aren't going to do seasonal format changes.
Rock wrote:
it's just so dreadful,
Could it be any worse than that piece-of-shit program you're working on?

and anyone whoknows sports knows that as well.
What, that your program is a piece of shit?
Rock wrote:
As for our show, yeah we took a dive,
No, you took a dump. Every morning. Same shit.

but then again everyone else did too.
You should ultimately worry about your own program first and foremost. Give us the best product you possibly can, then worry about the other programs.

No spin, no lies, nothing....
Hey, at least he got the last part right. Nothing. That's exactly what they've done to improve this POS program. Nothing.

we had a poor book,
Seems to me you've had a lot of poor books. And your boss (North) has had an even longer string of poor books.

but in my mind....I think the last couple of weeks shows with the Bulls making a run into the playoffs, with the Sox on a roll, with the Cubs doing excellent with all the injuries they've incurred, and the whole AJ/Crede haircuts thing in which we got plenty of publicity and airtime on every station in the market and some national....
Conning sponsors into doing "Bookie Priest" commercials doesn't count as publicity and airtime. Also, just because the teams are doing well doesn't mean your program is. There's not a direct correlation. If the teams provide great material, yet the program blows, why wouldn't people turn to MVP or another outlet instead?
Rock wrote:
I think we've done some good radio in the last couple of weeks.
No, you haven't. What do you consider to be "some good radio?"
Rock wrote:
It's not radio hall of fame by no stretch, but it's been good radio from my listening vantage point.
NEVER mention the hall of fame in the same breath as this show. "Been good radio?" What are you listening to? Obviously not what we're hearing.
Rock wrote:
The morale of the show has never been higher,
Hell, you guys are laughing all the way to the bank. Morale should be high amongst the staff.

it's getting easier to come to work now
I wish it were easy to listen to your work.

that there is at least something sports-wise to talk about.
Give it up. Blame it on the lack of sports. Blame it on the lack of billboards. Blame it on not having a remote in Wrigley. Blame it on promoting XRT. The blame never falls on Mike North, Anne, Fred, the production staff...I suppose next the blame will fall on the janitor for not stocking enough toilet paper in the bathroom. "Went into da badroom, an there wasn't any toy-led pay-pah. I had to run 'round an' find Mitch's tie to wipe my hands for three weeks. That's why we don't have time to pre-pah for da show."

Baseball is back in swing, and with that the sports climate in Chicago only gets hotter. We've added AJ/Cooper and welcoming back Dempster for his weekly hit on the show. We've added Barry Rozner who never runs out of things to say. Steve Stone is back again, another big hit for the station.
So the Mike North Morning Show is incapable of attracting and entertaining listeners without AJ/Cooper, Ryan, Rozner, and Stone?
Rock wrote:
The Bookie Priest is a big bit (whether you guys like it or not).
Exactly how is this a "big hit?" Do you have Arbitron numbers for the 9:15-9:17 slot? It is a worn-out bit, which has lost any and all humor. Don't let this be the basis of the show.
Rock wrote:
We're constantly bringing new ideas to the table,
I can picture the brainstorming session now.
North: Da Bookie Priest is good. We godda keep it up.
Rock: But Mike, the people on the board hate it. They say it is old and worn out.
North: What else can we do?
Fred: I can do more movie reviews...
North: Dat's great.
Rock: We can book Stone one more time...
North: Dat's great.
Anne: We can talk to the Little Guys once a week about home entertainment centers.
North: Dat's good, too.
Buck: We can do a new game, like the Real Estate Game. But instead, we'll call it the Property Game.
North: Oh, dat's good.
Rock: The Arbitron numbers are in for the 9:15-9:17 Bookie Priest. Looks like we have one new listener!
North: Ah, dat's da thing right dare. Let's do anudda Bookie Priest at 9:45.
See, Rock, you keep recycling the same crap. You become too dependent upon Bookie Priest and other bits, and they become worn-out quickly. There's nothing fresh, nothing new.

and expect the next 6-8 months to be really good for not only our show, but the station as a whole.
You're getting new hosts and producers for the mornings? Just temporarily, I assume, because I'm sure the Spanish-AC format will soon be in place.

Couple of things I wanna clear up:
Too bad you're not trying to clear up that steaming pile you call a radio show.
Rock wrote:
1. We do take calls.....and the phones are always open if you wanna chat.
You don't put that many calls on air. Does this mean you don't get
many calls? Is this reflective of the size of your audience?
Rock wrote:
2. We don't have billboards/signage...but then again, I don't think we ever have had signage anywhere at anytime.
If you had a good product, you wouldn't have to worry about billboards. Get ratings, and the promotion budget will follow. Quality first.

3. Big fan of Corrosion Of Conformity, In The Arms Of God is an amazing album.
And I'm a big fan of Public Enemy (just kidding) - who gives a shit? I'd rather have you telling us reasons why we should listen to your show instead of giving us (more) reasons NOT to listen to it.

4. To nostradamus.....I hope you realize what you're doing by posting internal memos on these boards.
If only he'd start posting messages from the GM and PD to the MNMS staff - I'd love to see if Agase and Rosen really know how bad it is.
Rock wrote:
5. Keep in mind, although our show is on a sports radio station, we've never advertised that our show is a sports radio show. Sure, you hear the promos "Mike North Talks Sports...." etc.....but we are an all topics show. We talk more sports than anything, but this morning for example we got on the topic of immigration for a whole 30-35 mins...full phones, took calls, and was a good segment and a half of radio. MNMS is all topics, and whatever we feel like bringing up...we're not confined by any script/rules/etc. that we have to follow.
Someone already mentioned this, so I apologize. To start this message you rambled about how our teams did nothing, and how the winter is a dreadful time for sports. Aren't you now shooting yourself in the foot?

6. The show is fun, and I work with 5 people that enjoy being around each other, working our asses off, and putting out the best product we can do on the radio. It may not be reflected in the papers all the time, but whatever we do on the radio is what I believe in and work for.
If that's the best you can do, that's BAD. Your show lacks research, lacks planning, and lacks imagination.
