Holy shit!!! It's true. I have a feeling Mac didn't see this coming. Wow.

BY ROMAN MODROWSKI
WMVP-AM (1000) has decided not to pick up the fifth and final year of the contract for popular talk show host Dan McNeil, who has hosted the "Mac, Jurko & Harry Show."
McNeil's departure is effective immediately.

"We're looking to try some new things in the afternoon," station general manager Jim Pastor said. "And given the economic climate, we feel it's the right time to do it.

"Mac's played a big part in ESPN 1000's success, and today I thanked him for that and wished him well in the future."

Pastor said Carmen DeFalco will sit in with John Jurkovic and Harry Teinowitz.

The final year of McNeil's contract begins in May, and the station had a window in which to make this move.

McNeil, who also writes a column for the Sun-Times and suntimes.com, had no comment.

I'll bet they blind-sided Mac with this after the show. I didn't listen today. Did he give any indication?

I can't beleive they didn't let him say good-bye after all he's done for that station. I'll bet they got pissed at him cuz he would always bitch about management and rip on Bristol.

Still, the guy produced. I think this means they get out of paying his last year. It was ESPN's option for his last year. That's how I take it.

Oh wow....where does one begin.....makes me wonder if Mac pulled a North and was insulted with their offers....wow....who would have thought that the two biggest sports yakkers in the past 16 years in Chicago would no longer be on sports talk radio....And I don't think they have any room for him at WSCR either.....wow, just wow....

No. It's not that Spmack. At least I don't think it was that. It was an option. He had no negotiating rights. They either pick it up for his last year or they don't.

I would bet it was a "MARRIOTI" firing.. someone from some team whined to the "TALKING SUITS" and got him canned.. He had cleaned up his act with his anger etc..
Sad..
Sad.. day..

Wow, never saw this coming at all.

I hope somehow he finds his way back to the Score.

All I've got to say is "WOW!" :o :o This move is as shocking as the big coaching news late this afternoon that Jon Gruden has been fired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as head coach. Blindsided? Bet the rent! Carmen is actually on the air as I type this message, unaware of this blockbuster news.

Well, Bernsie is up soon according to somebody here. Reunite him with Boers. But I don't want to see Bernsie go either.

Maybe Mac gets mornings at the Score. They could fire Hanley or Mulligan. Or both.

Maybe Larry's show will go but Mac is a "drive time" guy. He'd want that "drive time" money anyway.

Some guy called in yesterday and made a comment about Mac only making 350k, and Mac's response was "You couldn't get me out of bed for 350k !".....

Maybe Mac saw it coming....which explains the verbal bouquets thrown at North lately.....maybe Paula Faris and "Tony" Hawks had something to do with it....

Give Mac mornings. Can Holmes and Hampton. Put Mully and Hanley back at 10am. Or put H&H from 12-2 and can Murph.

Mac's gonna lose that bet. He's drinking tonight.

See, that's another reason I think it was a shock to Mac. He had that long tern bet with Harry and Jurko.

Mac - Drinking

Harry - Gambling

Jurko - Not being a fat ass

With Carmen now penciled in to work with "Jurko" & Harry after the Bulls' game Monday afternoon in New York, will it now be renamed "The Afternoon Saloon"? Just wondering...

It's good for both Carm and Hood.

Carm will get Mac's job. Hood will get Carm's night shifts with JD.

They'll get Carm for cheap. He'll take it.

Maybe Mac was just a little too over exposed media wise lately. Anyways I hope for the best for him and his family, and I'm sure there will be an opening in sports radio soon somewhere.

Wow. This blows. I don't think this was a huge suprise given some of his commets over the last few months. I hope it wasn't. If it was that really really blows and I hope you land someplace soon so I can listen.

Not so fast, Beardown...ESPN Radio's "The Pulse" is scheduled to air Monday night instead of "The Show", and there's a new national show with Brian Kenny that launches February 2nd. "Mac" mentioned something about national programming through the end of March. I think "The Show" will soon be no more...

Oh. I didn't know that.

Spaulding was onto something about the evening show.

I wonder if there is a no compete clause or if he can start at the score right away?

Since they got rid of him I don't think "No compete" is a factor. I think that's only if you quit with years on your contract.

Maybe he'll get that morning drive show he was talking up a couple months ago, although I don't see Mully and Hanley turning into MMH.

Perhaps there is/was a North-like offer on the table and Mac refused?

He's still under contract through May, so I'm guessing probably not.

If this has anything to do with last week's Sun Times comments about Mike and Mike, I'm going to be pissed. In fact, I'm going to be pissed anyway.

Welcome back to the days of 0.0 ratings ESPN1000. The guy single handedly made you relevant in this market and this is how you treat him?

The only good that could come out of this is if all the talent is re collected back at the SCORE and it gets back to its roots.

Word is that he is under contract until May and they aren't going to release him but just keep him off air. Don't know if they would let him go to get started somewhere else.

I'm not so sure that Mac will be back on "The SCORE", because I think he left on less than great terms...
