Yes, the show is not what it was in the first season. Im sticking it out for another season. The kicker for this year is the mixture of flash forwards and flash backs. The indications are this season will be more plot setup for the final season then real substance. I hope im wrong but I smell a repeat of the third season where we were getting a lot more questions then answers. Anyways, anyone else planning on watching? Expectations?

I have forgotten virtually everything I had: known/wanted to find out, about the story of this show. I will still watch it though (I'm sure my memory will get jogged).

can somebody give me such a good plot synopsis so that having never watched Lost before I can fit right into the storylines?

Besides Zack...

I'm going to go ahead and say, "no" on that one CoF.

I'm not being a smart ass either.

Well, maybe I am.

Agreed, a synopsis couldnt do it justice. You can probably find the first season online somewhere cheap or free. I think even with watching the first season, you dont get the fun of the moment between the time the show was released through the second season. There was a great buzz on the web that culminated with people posting theories on what was actually going on. As w_z points out, and I dont think hes too far off, the show strayed into the second and third season resulting in a lot of open questions and watered down filler. That being said, Michael Emerson's character Ben Linus is solid. I think he has greatly improved the show and without his character, I wouldnt have much interest in what has happened the past two seasons. Most of the strong characters were either killed off (Mr. Eko) or the writing just hasnt been there (Sayid started out awesome and then fell off, you can probably also say the same for others).

Very possible. That's been true for quite a while; I continue to watch because it's still a quality show every week. I wouldn't continue watching just to see how they wrap it up, because this thing has obviously unraveled far beyond what they could have been plotting on day 1.

In fact, wasn't there a direct quote from either Lindelof or Cuse, back in season 1, that there would be nothing crazy, such as time travel, on the show? Whoops.

But as long as it's an enjoyable hour each week, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. They seem to know where they're going, even though at this point it seems hopeless that everything can be resolved in a satisfactory manner.

this show really isn't about anything anymore except trying to surprise you with shit that makes absolutely no sense. and the sad part is, it's quite predictable.

that was 2 hours of fail.

i should probably just go ahead and change my name to "Lost is Doomed".

It was kind of interesting until they were on the beach being attacked. Running through the jungle. Someone grabs Sawyer and Juliette and threatens them, asking them why they're on their island. Oh no! Who are these poeple?!?!

I think we've been through this before.

If this is just going to keep going in circles I might give up on it before midseason. I've got things to do...there's still a lot of lesbian porn on the internet that I haven't seen.

I thought I was just in the wrong frame of mind for this premiere, but it looks like I wasn't. I just wasn't drawn into the show like I have been in the past.

Overall = Meh.

I dont know about the other few posters, but I thought this episode was the best in the last 2 seasons. It seems that nothing much has happened the last two years and everything on the show moved pretty slowly. At least a lot of shit happened in this episode. I think it will get even more interesting if they keep travelling through time on the island and interact with people from different time periods. It was also cool to see the asian dude from the dharma tapes finally get into a real scene.

I was torn as to what to watch last night. Given that the Hawks are my favorite team and that every home game is now on TV (in case you haven't heard- duh), I feel it's my duty to watch them whenever they're on, even with Lost coming back. I figured I would watch some of Lost during the first intermission and finish it after the game. But, I only watched about 2 minutes, and when I saw that the opening focused on the Dharma instructional video dude, I wasn't interested enough to keep watching, at least at that point.

Once the game was over (can I have those 3 hours of my life back, please), I was too tired to watch Lost. I will still watch the full 2 hours, but I wasn't drawn in by the 2 minutes I saw. Not a real fair representation, I know, but it sounds like I might not be drawn in at all, given some of your posts. I heard there was someone waiting for the Dharma dude once he exited that elevator, but I stopped watching before the revelation of who it was.

W_Z, your movie/TV reviews are very entertaining. Kudos.

I enjoy the show week-to-week and I like a lot of the characters, but I have almost given up that there will ever be some "master plan" revealed or if there is, that it will make any sense.

Kate is extremely fuckable.

Juliet has a pendulous rack.

Hurley is funnier than fuck.

The show makes little sense.

Consider yourself refreshed....

I just finished watching it...i was too tired last night to commit to 2 hours of it, so I just dvred it. HOLY CRAP that was awesome! So much better than season 3 (?I think, or 2?) I'm a total lostphile....I USED to be a W_Zphile, but I don't even know who he is anymore!

Who was the TOTAL LOSER who gave Sawyer a shirt?!? That was the best one hour and forty minutes of my week before stupid red-shirt guy gave Sawyer clothing!!

Yes they were and yes it is.

There is NO way to catch up now. I would suggest tivoing this season, and then spend the next few monhs renting/netflixing/checking out from your library the first 4 seasons. Then, watch them again. Repeat. Now you are ready to watch Season Five! :D

just try to explain to yourself what the show is about, and when you can't get past "something happens here, and then something happens but we don't know why yet" because there's really nothing else to say, you'll know what i'm talkin' about.

But I can accept that we don't know why yet, because Damon & Carlton have told us that with an "end date" set, now they can start pulling all the pieces together for us. And I thought that last night's episode definitely got us started on figuring out the pieces. Maybe I'm still riding out a shirtless Sawyer :drunken:  ; I'll re-watch it after Mass on Sunday, and see if I still feel the same way!

W_Z is just mad because he could never come up with a mysterious island that skips through time with smoke monsters and such. I thought Hurley gave an excellent recap of what happened on the show to his Mom.

I was impressed with the episodes as well. The first more than the second.

i reiterate...i'm pretty sure the finale will conclude nothing, and the creators will say "we had that in mind from the beginning!" and that will be that.

it's every writer's dream to have a hair-brained half-assed idea become a major hit TV show, leave the show after a year, collect all the revenue from the created-by credit, and collect again when it's sold to syndication. that doesn't make it *right*.

though, i am not above that, at all.

but i am not in that line of work right now, so i do have the luxury and the misfortune of saying whatever i want about it.
