According to Rock, phone lines are always open...

Maybe they just don't get any calls haha.

Most of the "good" callers (i.e. the ones worth listening to) are the 1st to leave when a show goes downhill/changes format. Why would any sports fan listen to, much less call in & comment on... how long Mikey can keep it up in bed with BeBe, Anne's opinion on breast implants, Fred's persecution complex vis a vis lesbians, or even the "topic of immigration" that Rock was so proud of last week?

The same thing happened when SNR overnights replaced Kevin "18" Wheeler with the god-awful Dr Phil wannabee David Stein. Within a week almost every regular was gone.

I get a lot more accomplished now that I'm not bothering to wait around for WSCR to have any sports talk programming between 11pm & 10 am :-)

You've nailed one of the biggest reasons the show now is a disaster. The monsters (the show that north made his career from) used to rely on caller interaction. Now north says, "I took calls for seven years" as if he is above it all now. All talk radio shows take calls. Isn't that why it is called talk radio? North just thought he was now so talented that he could carry off a talk radio show without callers. How's that workin' out for ya?

I guess if you were Bob Collins, or Stern, it might well be a fine thing to point out you once had to take unscripted calls from the callers. But that's a sportstalk station, and that show still pretends to be sportstalk-oriented.

But even if it wasn't, even if it was a general-topic discussion show, you'd still take calls, I'd think, so you can have North and Annie bounce off each other, in some slogan-throwing argument.

I think the real problem is the only real listeners on this crapfest are too stupid to know how to use the phone. There really can't be any listeners left who have a functional brain.

funny, thats also what the Score used to think , if you remember the early ads, Stan from Bellwood, Rafael from Berwyn (RIP, I think), Patio Steve and so on. These guys called in and got on the air - they even had a great promo of saying all the callers names.

?

As overrated as Stan was, he was the guy who "flipped the switch" when they moved from daytime only to 24 hours. Do you think it would be a Scorehead who they chose now for that event? Are there any true Scoreheads anymore?

Remember the show that launched the score? The old Ditka coaches show. The year he was on the verge of being fired. How many score bits and segments can still be tied to that show. Remember Neil from northlake getting Ditka so pissed that he threatened to whip his ass? Shows like that were the score. The station bears little resemblance to what it once was. The stations, lead by north in the mornings, has taken all the passion and fun out of sports radio and made it into corporate clinical drudgery.

its a combination of north getting to roam free and not being restrained by hayes or rosen / both were afraid of losing north and then losing their jobs / one down, one to go!

Exactly! Every Morning when I did listen to Norths show, it was all about Mike. everything. What he did the night before, what he is doing for the weekend.

Compare to my guy, JB, who says "hey, what are doing this weekend" and then takes calls! asking more and more people what they are doing. some of it is really funny.

This is a combination of EGO meeting UNPLANNED shows.

And yet that's nothing more than talkradio 101.

Dave Baum, even considered as boring by a lot of you, would front a better show than what Mikey's putting forth...
