Rank in order of their strength as a cartoon character.
1. Cartman: mean-spirted to the nth degree. Makes a great chili.
2. Stewie: scholarly scoundrel. An educated version of Cartman.
3. Bart: troublemaker on a less-depraved scale

Cartman was much better back in the day. The star of SP is now Butters, who is really a great pairing for Cartman, the innocent yokel with the devious toad. The past season or so, the show has gotten less preachy and obvious. I think they're trying to bring it back to what it was, sharp storytelling with biting satire. I still miss Cartman's old voice, though.

If Stewie isn't the top dog right now, he's pretty close. While Eric Theodore Cartman is warped, he is in no way as twisted as one Stewart Gilligan Griffin. A truly evil, yet endearing, mastermind. Pairing him with the reasonable and sane Brian really works well, and brings out his depth. He's not just a baby who wants to break free from his mother's matriarchail tyranny.

Bart is a three. To quote his mother, Marge, "I like Bart..."

strength of *character*:

1. Bart, no question. He's gone through soul searching (literally), drug withdrawal, being held back in remedial classes, and has withstood breaking his leg and missing out on a pool all summer, on top of thinking he saw Ned Flanders kill his own wife. Cartoon character strength: Eaten by piranha and got his skin back through rewinding.

2. Cartman, sure he's a raging nazi hate machine, and he thinks Kyle's mom is a big fat bitch, she's the biggest bitch in the whole wide wor--sorry I just get caught up in it. He also has a beautiful singing voice. Cartoon character strength: So much to choose from but the one off the top of my mind is when he decides to act retarded to win the special olympics. His facial expression was priceless.

3. Stewie's not a character, so he doesn't count in that regard. Strength of *cartoon* character, he still doesn't match Bart or Cartman. He's got some funny moments, but since I don't think "Family Guy" is in the same universe as "The Simpsons" or "South Park", I can't really say much else.

Stewie - He had me at his hate for Broccoli
Cartman - He had me at the Maury spoof (whateva I'll do what I want...I roll with 9 gangs and they do hate crimes)
Bart- wrong character from that show, he is not the Iconic character that the other two are, that character on the Simpsons is obviously Homer.

Cartman's my guy. Anyone that enjoys hitting things with a stick is just alright with me.

Homer is just a boob -- like Peter Griffin. They basically share the same story lines.

You've said enough Mr. Objectivity. I don't really like the show, but that doesn't sway how I feel about its characters.

Cartman
Bart
Stewie

Although, Stewie is making a run at second place. (for me anyway)

I love Stewie,
but I agree with Zack's list and reasoning.

Bart is a PG version of the Cartman and Stewie.
There's no depth to his depravity. Bart blazed the trail, but Stewie and Cartman have taken the troubled-child part to whole, new disgusting level.

Cartman is #1 for sure. Here's a rundown of some of the best Cartman moments over the years.

#1 with Scott Tenorman is probably my favorite. Also if anyone doesn't know already, you can watch every episode of South Park ever for free on southparkstudios.com.
