Once I see a few more of these movies I'll have a go at predictions. They're fun to do. Been doing them with my sister since 1989.

it's "curious" to me that BB got 13 nods. didn't seem to have *that* much buzz. "slumdog" has the better feeling story, and like i said, it's one of those "life is beautiful" movies...so I have a strong feeling it can win Picture.

I'm kinda pissed "The Dark Knight" didn't get a screenplay nod. Not just because I think it deserved it, but because I predicted it would in my review. Now I look like a fraud.

On a side note, it's even more of a cynical nomination for Ledger now because TDK got *no* major nominations other than supporting actor. That proves again it was a pity award, and he will win it. Too bad, there are some great actors in that category this year.

Streep is hands down going to win Actress. If she doesn't, the Awards mean nothing. Not that they mean a whole lot now but...seriously. She was superb.

Can't really say anything about "in Bruges" except all the praise it's getting, good pick, chas. I think you're gonna be right on that one.

Got a feeling Amy Adams may win for "Doubt"...depends on the trends. If she does, then Hoffman's a shoe-in. Rourke...tough call. Haven't seen "The Wrestler" but it has gained a lot of momentum.

Looking forward to the ceremony regardless, it should be a nice mix. I don't think there are that many slam dunks.

I don't think Heath Ledger was a pity award. If you saw TDK than you wouldnt really say that was pity. He stole the movie by far, and I really cant think of another movie this year that someone did that. He was great and Im not at all a Heath Ledger fan.

I went with Hathaway because of it being a totally reach for her to play the role she did.

Dude you got to see In Bruges. Fucking terrific, like I said in my review it shows what a godo actor Farrell is when he applies himself.
TDK did get one major other than Heath , it got cinematography. I think it should win that one . The song cat was weak.

consider the context i'm talking about. i'm saying the academy is giving this out as a pity award. if they weren't, they would've recognized TDK in other major awards. NO movie with the kind of buzz this movie got gets snubbed in every other major category (chas, i'm talking about picture, director, actor, actress, supp., and screenplay).

i think ledger *does* deserve the award. i'm just saying the way the academy put it together is very cynical. this movie should've at least been recognized for director and/or screenplay on top of it if they're going to recognize best supporting actor. it's just the political side of things.

chas, "in bruges" is on my must see list...but then again so is "into the wild" and i still haven't seen that...but i'll push "in bruges" to the top.

I understand why it got snubbed in actor, actress, and supp, but Im not sure why it got shafted with director or screenplay. That didnt make any sense to me.

I know what you mean W Z about major awards.
Serious, In Bruges anyone who is a cinefile must see it. Even Ralph Fiennes was incredible in it.
I do like the nod to Tropic Thunder, I really need to see it . it is way down on my Netflix list.
Look at Iron man did not get one Nomination. I do think Buttton will not win that many though Slumdog is gonna be the big winner this year

Chris it got snubbed because it is a comicbook movie

that's what i mean, i'm not saying TDK should've been given all the categories but typically when you do have a nom in a strong category like supporting actor, and the film gains as much praise as it does, you expect it to be nominated for director and/or screenplay, and it got neither. and that's what my problem is.

I see what your point is with the pity vote now. Kinda sucks as this film did need more nominations than what it got.

i think feinnes is a great actor, i'm not surprised but i've heard "in bruges" brought out the best in everybody.

wasn't *that* surprised by "iron man" not getting any nominations but honestly i think downey deserved a nod for that movie over "tropic thunder". he was hilarious in that, but he pwned "iron man". that movie was fun, but he made that movie awesome.

This needs a bump....

My picks

Leading Actor - Rourke for The Wrestler. Hollywood loves the comeback stories. It could go to Penn for Milk as well.
Supporting Actor - Heath Ledger - phenominal
Best Actress - Kate Winslett in the Reader. It's her year
Supporting Actress - Tomei for The Wrestler.
Picture of the Year - Slumdog Millionaire - haven't seen it yet, but I think they will go this way.
Director - Danny Boyle Slumdog Millionaire

IMHO

Hey I took my mother to see it , What sucks is that I kinda liked it. I just do not see how a freaking musical does not get a nod in the music cat.

Chas - don't feel bad. I am getting flamed for announcing that I like American Idol! I had to reference this post to show that you were gayer than me for this post - no offense, I like your posts, but I had to throw the dogs a sacrificial bone and you were it. Don't worry I am sure some one will post something gayer than we both did soon.

But serious, the movie is good and i loved it for Bronsons job, the dude acted but unlike the rest of the cast mailed in his singing. dude, it's all good - I figured you were messin - which is why I didn't respond in anger. I don't take too much chit seriously on this board. I am obviously bored at work today as I must have made 20 posts...
