Don't know much about Kingsley, but he's gold, solid gold in every flick I catch him in.

"Tropic Thunder" was the best flick I saw this year but "Frost/Nixon" looks amazing.

thank you all for your contributions. you were the light in my dark world. mom, dad, the academy, my wonderful director, my lover, my beautiful children...and barack obama, because he's an elegant man. thank you. thank you.

see that's why it's annoying "milk" won. yes it was a really good script. YES, the writer *and* director of it was gay.

so you gotta get up there and make the whole thing about being gay? why not go the opposite route of being painfully obvious and thank the people that helped your ass get picked up in the industry in the first place instead of making some flowery emotional speech trying to act like you *are* harvey milk? smacked ass punk.

To me, there are few things less interesting in the world than the litany of "thank yous" that constitute the typical Oscar acceptance speech. I don't know who most of the people are who get thanked and I don't really care if somebody really bonded with the crew or not. Say something entertaining or interesting, try to maintain your composure, and get off the stage. This is a TV show not a therapy session.

Really? Man On Wire?

I really liked the way the documentary was constructed as kind of an implicit response to the 9/11 attacks--the wire crossing was framed as a conspiratorial attempt to commit an incomprehensible act of beauty rather than an unspeakable act of terror. An interesting if poorly paced film.

I thought Mickey Rourke deserved the Oscar over Penn, and that Milk was a much better movie than Slumdog.

If I won Best Documentary I would have told Bill Maher that god obviously liked me better...but I guess that is why these are the "creative" people.

Thoughts I didn't post cause I was trying to fall asleep watching the end of it (and boy did best actress take care of that)

I 2nd the "What the fuck did Queen Latifah ever do" and why the hell is she singing live during the dead people montage. And if it's the dead people montage, why the fuck would you EVER have the camera on Latifa's fat ass

Anybody who speaks negatively of Reese Witherspoon is on my "enemic list" :-) Although she did look really bony in her face last night :(

Why the hell is Zack Efron presenting an Academy Award?

Why did they only nominate 2 or 3 things in some categories this year, best song coming to mind first.

I still wanna hit Meryl Streep's daughter. And not in the violent way ;-)

She's still cute. I think she's had 3 kids.

Unless her kids are the reincarnation of Moe, Larry and Curly, she's still useless, talentless and scrawny/mugly-with the mini Shula/jut-jaw to me.

I'm with you on that. Never liked her and her massive underbite.

my random thoughts...

1. If they want someone singing during the 'dead people' segment, fine, but fill my TV with the dead people, not the singer.

2. I didn't understand why the musical number in the middle of the show was necessary???

3. The concept of having 5 past winners introduce this years nominees is interesting, but I don't think it was pulled off very well. Half of them seemed very forced and some were painful to watch. Plus, they needed to use only multiple winners or older people as the "5". Why have Cuba Gooding Jr. and some other "one-hit wonders" welcome the potential winners to the club?

4. Are action movies seen as red-headed step-children in Hollywood? Say what you want about whether or not Ledger is overrated in Batman, I find it hard to believe that the visual effects of making Brad Pitt look old/young/whatever are better than Dark Knight, or Ironman (or most action movies in general).

5. I guess I need to see Slumdog.

6. I'm still not going to see Milk. Milf maybe, but not Milk.

Reese and Jen do look a like. They are both cute. Jen got the fake boobs. Reese didn't want to go that route. If I had to choose between the two, I'd rather bang Reese. Neither of them would ever talk to me. If they saw me approach them they would douse me with gasoline and throw a match on me. (I'm convinced both of them have gasoline in their purses at all times in case somebody like me does approach them.)

oh jesus christ. jen the engine isn't a pubic hair close to reese's style and grace and beauty.

my sister had some spaulding-like thoughts on the Oscars last night. i was amused:

My Sister wrote:

it was horrbily boring.

next year an award will be presented for "best crying/emotional perfromance at the 2008 during heath ledgers acceptance speech....boy was that criminal. if you believe for a second that angelina jolie wasn't trying to outcry everyone there, you need to stop watching movies.

it was really very very awful. the worst oscars i have ever seen. hugh jackman was bland. that musical scene was awful. they put no effort into making that thing sinteresting at all.

the ben stiller thing didnt even make me crack a smile.

i don't know, i still think ben stiller's thing was funny. but i'm a bit of a stiller apologist, i'll admit.

can't really argue with what she said though.

Some of you must get this through your heads - Jen is nowhere near as attractive as she thinks she is. She's almost good enough to be labeled 'plain'. Almost. Reese is is almost as good as Hollywood gets these days - if you factor in class, dignity, and personality.

Thank you.

A quote by Hannibal Lecter, talking to Agent Starling, makes me think of Jen Jen:

"You know what you look like to me, with your good bag and your cheap shoes? You look like a rube. A well scrubbed, hustling rube with a little taste. Good nutrition's given you some length of bone, but you're not more than one generation from poor white trash, are you, Agent Starling? And that accent you've tried so desperately to shed: pure West Virginia. What is your father, dear? Is he a coal miner? Does he stink of the lamp? You know how quickly the boys found you... all those tedious sticky fumblings in the back seats of cars... while you could only dream of getting out... getting anywhere... getting all the way to The Monsters in the Morning."

Don't get me wrong. Reese is much more pretty. I said there is a similarity with Jen. I just think Reese went down a little to "cute". She can still be hot again. Just not yesterday.

Reese Witherspoon was a model before she was an actress.

Ya know what I've observed through the years? Women always look worse in dresses. Most of them anyway. Jolie always look good. Even if they have good bodies it looks worse it a dress.

Are you serious? I tell you what--the 82 year-old Queen of England is considered one of the "classiest," most dignified women on the planet. Why don't you go knock yourself out banging her so there's more hot, dumb 25 year-old models for the rest of us.

Before your post this thread was starting to sound like a bunch of old queens longing for the days of big musicals.
