The "Worldwide Leader in Sports" recently raised eyebrows by announcing plans to become the new home of College Football's controversial Bowl Championship Series, starting in 2011. Could ESPN possibly become the new home of the "The Road to the Final Four" as well? It seems like a longshot, but awfulannouncing.com has a New York Times story in which the NCAA could possibly opt out of their 11-year NCAA Basketball deal with CBS Sports after the 2010 season. CBS is about to tipoff its 28th straight season as the exclusive broadcast home of the NCAA Basketball Tournament, but CBS News & Sports boss Sean McManus has already had informal talks with the NCAA concerning an extension. Despite the economic recession that's affecting everyone, McManus feels that NCAA Basketball "fits perfectly into our schedule" and is confident that CBS will continue to air the Men's Championship for many years to come.

The way I see it, the only thing that would change is the channel you would watch it on...a lot of the same people that do games for ESPN during the regular season do post-season for CBS...

Only bad thing would be the addition of Dicky V to the mix...

In reading the initial story before posting it last night, the chances of CBS Sports losing one of their crown jewels in NCAA Basketball appears very remote and unlikely. They've been the broadcast home of the NCAAs since Michael Jordan & North Carolina beat Georgetown in New Orleans way back in 1982 at the Superdome. I know that Jay Bilas, who normally analyzes college hoops on ESPN, has been loaned to CBS I have to think each of the last 4 years. Ditto for Bill Raftery, who has split time between CBS & ESPN for many, many years. There is one guy who many have never heard of, and he's Carter Blackburn. He and Dick Enberg are supposed to split PBP duties starting with tomorrow's games at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. Carter, former Bull Greg Anthony, and former Villanova coach Steve Lappas, who called last night's "Play In" game on Westwood One/NCAA Radio Network, have all called NCAA games this season on CBS College Sports Network, the formerly named CSTV, which fans can find on DIRECTV 613.
