Bothy Band is definitely a more traditional flavored approach. If you like your Irish music rock and roll tinged, then the bands you mentioned, plus ones like Enter The Haggis, are more your style.

there is a lot of horrible Celtic music out there. particularly the modern new-agey stuff. women singing ballads. Barf. anything you might hear on a public radio station. They cater to simpletons.

you don't like early classical music either. what, exactly DO you like? Tracy Chapman?

I don't like early classical music? Yeah, anything pre-Baroque (Josquin Desprez, for example) is a little weird to my ears. Baroque is my least favorite of the big four eras, but that doesn't mean I dislike it, I just prefer Romantic, Modern, and Classical. I even like 21st century; I wish WFMT still aired Relevant Tones.

Much like Tom Thibodeau, I like a ton of stuff.
