Thumbs down to me, Bear fans. I thought the Bears would start 2009 with 2 straight road games, but 2 of the first 3 are away from home and the NFL schedule makers didn't exactly give the Bears an easy opening of the 2009 season. We've known for a while they'll kickoff the regular season September 13th in Green Bay on the "Al & John Show", a.k.a. "NBC's Sunday Night Football". It turns out they'll be home September 20th, and I'll go out on a limb and predict that CBS Sports will send Jim Nantz & Phil Simms to Soldier Field for the game vs. the Super Bowl Champion Steelers that Sunday at 3:15p. I think that's a very, very safe bet that Jim & Phil will be here for that game...They head to Seattle to face a Seahawks team that was injury-riddled at Qwest Field September 27th in another late afternoon start. Even though fans are a lot more excited now that Jay Cutler is here as the quarterback, this is far from an easy start to the season by any stretch...

Not to call anyone a moron, but the teams they play and home or away was released a long time ago. The dates and times are what just came out. Five primetime games is surprising, luckily only one with Kornheiser. I like getting the steelers early.

No reason not to be above .500 again this season. Just
have to worry about those close games that seem to
get away like they did last year. Bucs and Falcons
come to mind. I like our chances at the Wild Card
and possibly the division, although it is going to be
a battle with the Vikings and Packers.

From a ticket-holder standpoint this schedule is lousy. Opening on the road for the 5th straight year and only two home games in the first two, warmer, months of the season (last year it was 3). And the Packers home game is again in December, where it has been for the last six years.

It does seem a little ridiculous for the likes of ESPN & NFL Network, DIRECTV 212, to devote an hour to the NFL regular season schedule. Then again, why do we watch CBS Sports to hear Greg Gumbel, former Bull Greg Anthony & Sports Illustrated's Seth "I like Western Kentucky to beat Illinois" Davis for an hour to figure out who plays who in the NCAA Basketball Selection Show?

The only thing I can figure regarding the Bears on prime time TV is that they are a ratings draw, no matter when they play. The results over the years haven't always been there, but the NFL's broadcast partners, in this case NBC Sports, ESPN & NFL Network, feel guys like Brian Urlacher, Devin Hester & now Jay Cutler equal ratings. I excluded FOX Sports from the list, only because they don't regularly broadcast their games under the lights, except for preseason & postseason games. Still, Bears in prime time mean a rating bigger than Jim Belushi's waistline.

I only saw a brief moment of that show (it was unintentional) and it seemed at that moment that ESPN was using the opportunity to promote their own broadcasts of the games.

And for the record, I hate - HATE - late starts. I want my Bears on at noon, dammit.

From a ticket holder standpoint your post is insane. I see 5 games I would consider premium (Steelers, Eagles, Cardinals, Vikings and Packers).

If you sell the Packers in August, no one thinks about the difficulty of December...and you can always sell those for a good price in August.

1. I agree with you; the matchups are primo. However for the most part they are predetermined years in advance so the matchups are no surprise. I was referring to when the bears are playing these games, not who they are playing against.

2. I yes I do realize I can make $$ by selling the December games in August. However I prefer to go to the games; not sell. And come on, don't you think six December home games in a row against your biggest rival, with many of them meaningless, in brutal weather, or both, is a bit much?

I remember Michael Vick looking like he was pretty much sitting through it, too. And I don't think Rex Grossman was ever more popular in Chicago than he was when he came in the second half of that game.

It was an ice cold Sunday night when the Falcons visited Soldier Field in 2005, I do believe. I was an usher working that night for Safety Service Systems, and needless to say, it was one of the coldest games I had ever worked in 4 years working all the Bear home games. The temperature was as cold as Rex Grossman's jersey number, which I believe was 8 degrees, and a wind chill well below zero. To say I had to dress warm that Sunday night would be an understatement!
