This game should be an easy win with Big Z against a rookie, but too many guys left on base plus Zambrano having one of his emotional breakdowns has them losing.

the cubs are looking like the bad cub teams of years gone by. bases loaded nobody out twice and they score 3 runs. then let the cards take the lead the next inning. i predict a long year and a 81-81 season. highest payroll in national league and they won't make the playoffs

It's called Badbullpenitis and it's contagious. Now Marmol is catching it.

Hallelujah - apparently, it was only a minor case of badbullpenitis with Marmol.

It might have been MitchWilliamitis.

It is like Marmol cannot get into the game unless there is trouble.

Lou is brilliant for keeping Soriano batting lead-off. If he's hitting lower he's not up for the game winning homer in the 8th.

I don't have as much a problem with Soriano batting leadoff as I do with Derek Lee batting third when he is. I have said all along that Ramirez should be batting third.

We could have the offspring of a gay union between Mariano Rivera and Brad Lidge for our closer and the kid would still find a way to get into trouble.

It's the Cubs curse - we can never have a lockdown closer. Just like the Bears could never have a franchise QB. Maybe our luck will change like the Bears?

As B&B mentioned, in a game the Cubs had to win, Lou goes to Marmol and not Gregg as a closer.

Of course Lou will say he had Marmol up and ready to go, but if this was last year Wood is in the game.

Note to Marmol, throw your fastball when your slider sucks. First 2 batters he couldn't throw a strike, then he went to the fastball and it was all good. Its just common sense.

No, it's called being rusty after not pitching for 5 days. Marmol, or Gregg.....thats an easy call. Glad Lou finally got it right. The problem is, in a lot of games, the starter does not go 7 innings (good or bad) and then you get to Marmol earlier perhaps. But if both are rested and its the 9th, it has to be Marmol.

National game today, with Dempster going to the mound. It would be nice to see Hoffpauir in the lineup a 3rd straight game. With 2 hits yesterday, maybe Lou goes with him again. He made a couple pretty nice plays in the outfield, so that might help him get more opportunities out there too. They have yet to give him a day at 1st, after Lou said in spring, that he was going to give lee more days off this year. He had mentioned 1 day a week, yet lee has played all 10 games to start the season. This Cardinal team can really swing the bats. They have some weak defensive players, but they can sure hit. The Cubs let P.J. walters off the hook too many times, early in yesterdays game. So many times this year, they have struck out, hit into a double play or popped up, with runners in scoring position, rather than advancing runners (especially from 3rd, to score) with an at bat. Too many unproductive outs in those situations. that has to be corrected. Nice to see Soto finally get another hit and knock in a run with it, to boot. Big homer by Soriano. Even though he had already earned the Sombrero (3 strikeouts), he wound up getting the game winning hit, with the 2 run homer. Gotta hope he can get more big hits in the 2 remaining games of this series.

Dempster must be looking for a short start today, so he can go see the Hawks tonight. And why the hell is Miles playing today? He should only play if someone is hurt.

What the fuck is it with free passes by Cubs pitching of late? Jeezus, but that's maddening. It's one thing to get scored against. It's another to do it to yourself.
