Has anyone heard anything about his contract?

I know he's up after next season and if NU has another good season they will be pounding on his door.

If they were smart, they'd just call him first... what if he is not home or on vacation or something?

A loud persistent rapping at his back door?

I'm of the opinion that he should concentrate on putting Blago behind bars.

Did you guys hear that one of the local TV stations was thisclose to putting Pat Fitzgerald footage when they wanted Patrick Fitzgerald footage? The same day there was some news on Blago was the same day Pat Fitzgerald was put in the College Hall of Fame.

I wonder if the seal can talk Pat Fitzgerald into staying at NU. Or does the NU admin keep calling him but he says he only has to answer to the seal?

Or maybe they can take him upstairs, get his football information and have him commit to the indian.

The new AD is working on a deal with FitzG... the details won't be made public because it is a private institution. You might get the length of the contract, but that's probably it. FitzG isn't going anywhere... he's a lifer. And let's be honest, despite the hype, he hasn't really proved anything yet as a coach.

I have a friend who's nephew is going to be a senior in high school next year who is a highly ranked quarterback. He's also a great student who wants to go into engineering so is really looking at Northwestern if they come calling and they probably will. He wants to play for Pat.

She is also a high school principal and said that school admins love when schools as good as Northwestern become good athletic programs. The kids that are really top notch academically then don't have to make the decision between academics and football (or basketball) as much especially those who are great college prospects but not necessarily good NFL prospects.

I remember when they made him head coach. The consensus was that he was going to be a good head coach the only question was if he was ready.

And he did a good job in the 7th inning stretch last night.

why would he? he's got the lowest pressure job in the Big 10. if he wanted the big money or a national championship (or *gasp* a full stadium), then obviously NU might not be his end game... but if you want a good job and low pressure to perform, then it ain't a bad place to be. Seriously, if he batted .500 for the rest of his career, I think NU admins would be absolutely thrilled with that. Now the fans (all 3 of us) wouldn't necessarily agree...

for the record, I think he's the perfect coach for NU. I think he's got good people around him, he's good at recruiting (within the constrains of what the administration will let him do), and probably most important... he is a good role model for the kids he coaches. Like I said, I would rather be the doormat of the Big 10 again then have another Dennis Lundy situation or an otherwise dirty program. I know you can't say a program is 100% clean, but I'm an idealist with college sports... I know it's unrealistic to expect everyone to play by the rules, but I still think its worthy to aspire to that.

I just felt like I was bashing him earlier in the thread. The avatar is just to compete with Hawkeye Vince's man-love for Ferentz.
