"Another big CBS2 firing: Howard Sudberry gets pink slip
Posted by Larz on 4/30/2009, 5:01 pm

The firings were all done this morning and the collective sighs of relief were let out, but it turns out there was still one pink slip left to be handed out. Looooong-time sportscaster Howard Sudberry was given the cliche pat on the back and walk to exit door today. He was immediately removed from the CBS2 website, too.

Which is smaller: the personnel at a random Clear Channel radio station or the personnel at WBBM-TV? Both are shrinking at an incredible rate "

CBS is bleeding money and they may hire Mac, but not for bigtime money. Hope Mac has an alternate plan for big money.

I could never watch him, there's something wrong with his teeth I still can't figure out. He's talking and talking and I just stare at his teeth wondering what happened to them to make them look so weird and ugly. He creeps me out.

Howard Sudberry was a fixture since Ronald Reagan was in the White House at CBS2...He's one of at least three high-profile names that were cut today at 22 W. Washington, along with reporter Joanie Lum & a man I actually met many years ago at the Chicago Sun-Times, entertainment reporter Bill Zwecker, when I was a courier at Chicago Messenger Service over a decade ago. If I'm not mistaken, former CBS2 bossman Joe Ahern actually fired Sudberry a few years ago, only to bring him back. He was the consumate team player anchoring & reporting Chicago sports for about 25 years before getting his walking papers today...

Sure, fire the guy who can actually do the job, but keep on someone like Meagan Mawike (sp?) who is just brutal. It's the "we need a woman who is good looking on air" syndrome. You've dumped Mark Malone and Howard Sudberry yet you keep Ryan Baker and Meagan Mawike. Great move by channel 2.

It's not much of a story, Good Dolphin. I was a courier for Chicago Messenger Service some 15 years ago, and one of the packages I delivered was for Bill Zwecker, and he could not have been nicer. This was long before he joined CBS2 & the popular "Eric & Kathy" morning show on 101.9 The MIX covering entertainment.

I'm old enough to remember when Bill Kurtis & Walter Jacobson anchored "THE TEN O'CLOCK NEWS" on CBS2 back in the mid '70s...How the mighty have fallen! You'd think having prime time's most watched network and shows like "CSI: Miami", "CSI: NY" and "Numbers" would be strong enough lead-in for CBS2 come 10p. There's something about WBBM-TV's news presentation that makes viewers want to grab the remote...

To me, no matter who the talent is behind the desk, the whole production quality seems amaturish, like it's being done on some community college Mass Media 401 sound stage.
