another board - http://www.chicagolandradioandmedia.com/ - bashes Mitch

#1 - I didn't want to turn the other thread into a Mitch Rosen bashing thread, so I figured I'd start one.
Why does this guy keep landing on his feet? He presided over ESPN 10000 during its' days of losing to the Score, and since he has been at the Score, the station has been gradually sliding into irrelevance.

Never, since the Score began, did I ever think I would be listening more to the competition down the dial, but with the loss of North, Fred, Jesse (yes, I said Jesse), George (yes, I said George), and now Doug, a lot of the soul of the station has been lost. About the only shows I bother with are Mulley and Handley for a while, then B&B (although the second "B" of that duo is, IMO, getting worse and worse with wanting to debate, rather than discuss). In addition, the hiring of Hampton to partner with Holmes to go against arguably the best or second-best sports talk show in the market was an asinine decision.

Possibly, though, one of his biggest blunders has almost gone completely under the radar - NOT locking up the Blackhawks rights. Sure, it was going to cost some money, but how dumb do you have to be not to capitalize on perhaps the hottest team in Chicago?

I have been tuning in to the other station more often. As much as Silvy grates on me, his chemistry with Waddle is unmistakable, and I generally enjoy their show.

What kind of track record does this Rosen have that allows him to keep top decision-making jobs in the third-largest market in the country ???

#2 - I hate to tell you, but Mitch isn't making these decisions. Last time I looked, THE SCORE was a CBS property. They dictate the budget the station is allowed to operate with, and then Mitch has bosses above him at 670 telling him what to do.

#3 - Whether Rosen is directly responsible, there is a point about him being on the losing end.

While CBS may or may not be making some of the financial decisions, I would assume Rosen had a huge influence, if not the full decision, in deciding on making Laurence Holmes and Dan Hamptom the 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. weekday hosts. That was a bad decision. Even worse, as SHARK has mentioned many times, no one else at the station even got a shot at that time slot. Brian Paruch, Matt Abbatocola, Jason Goff - all guys who many would argue would had been ten times better than Holmes - were not even given a chance.

While Rosen was at ESPN 1000, the station got pounded in ratings, particularly because the only local show was "The Huge Show" with Bill Simonson, followed by the then "afternoon saloon," or otherwise known as "afternoon thunder" McNeil, Jurko and Harry. The station's excuse was that the Disney forced the station to air syndicated programming the rest of the day, which simply could not compete with The Score's all-local emphasis.

It wasn't but a couple of weeks after Rosen left the station, that new PD Len Weiner placed Silvy and Carmen together on evenings, then within a year, had a midday show following Mike and Mike. Whether or not Weiner was able to pull some strings or Disney magically tightened it's grip, who knows.

It's a good site, Spmack, and Larz does a terrific job keeping us posted on the changing Chicago media landscape. I contribute whenever I have an opinion, just like I do here.

It's a great site with updates on all stations not just 670 & 1000. It's quick easy radio news for dummies but apparently some of you guys aren't even up to that level yet! Shark & I will continue to clue you in.

I always hated the Hawks on the score. They cut into bear postgame and gave us the thoughts of jesse rogers.

I can't knock the content of that site, since I haven't ever read it... BUT

I truly created better websites in 7th grade computer class. With the options they have these days for free, that's just unacceptable and to expect anyone to read that is absolutely silly.

Truth be told, when WMAQ Radio went off the air and became WSCR 670 earlier this decade, the Blackhawks' radio deal was something the station's parent company, CBS/Westinghouse/Infinity Broadcasting, inherited. WSCR inherited the Hawks' radio rights much like when ESPN Radio 1000 inherited the White Sox & Bulls when ABC Radio bought WMVP in 1998 as part of the station's $21 million sale to become the flagship of ESPN Radio. It wasn't that long ago that the Hawks were the least popular franchise in the country, and WSCR couldn't get a single station to get them off their hands until WGN 720 this season.

Fine time to "take them off their hands."

Yeah, the content is there...but the bright blue and yellow make my eyes hurty.

The format is unreadable, even as good as the content might be. Looks like it goes all the way back to 1995. I heard there's porn on the Internet?
