I accept David's point, but frankly, the number of t-shirts, mugs etc that you give out is miniscule compared to the shows actual audience. Even these remotes you go to, I've been to one and it was fun and all that, but the guys you see there again are miniscule compared to the true audience.

If I thought everyone at a remote is a caller, and ergo, content creator (their calls make the show interesting,) if I thought everyone there had a Nielsen ratings thingy, then maybe there's a point to be made.

But having said that, I think that Mully & Hanley having to buy their own promo materials suck.

If mid-day is the new ratings bonanza, why would I want to do anything involving moving McNeil to afternoons? Attack weak spots in your competitor

I have to agree with Hatchetman, for the most part I really dislike ESPN1000's programming. Mike and Mike are so vanilla and cliché that I lose an IQ point if I listen for more than 10 minutes at a time. Silvy and Waddle are okay but nothing special, though, considering what they're up against I totally understand their ratings success. The one hour of the national T&VP show is lackluster and the Afternoon Saloon is just BRUTAL! Carmen is okay but Harry makes me want to beat my children with that worn out act of his. When Jurco is the driving force behind the show there are serious problems. I thought that B&B would have trounced their time slot but I guess the general public would rather listen to 3 dorks in a dorm room than 2 elitist douchebags looking down on the masses from their ivory tower while driving home from work. Ah well, to each their own I guess. I just hope something in the sports radio world improves or it may be time to give satellite radio a try.

Since Danny Mac got the axe, my sports radio listening time has greatly diminished. Sirius is on all day. Howard Stern in the morning, and music in the afternoon.

people wo are interested in sports in chicago know where to find it on the radio.
radio executives have it all wrong. you keep your P1's happy. who cares what the 20 minutes a day to and from work guy thinks? he's listening to 5 minutes of commercials anyway.

What the hell, you always need a scapegoat, so I nominate that Celtics-green-wearing guy, Laurence Holmes. See, North always lost in the morning drive anyway, so M&H doing the same is no big change. But, M&H used to do very well in the mid-morning slot but now Holmes seems to be no match for Silvy & Waddle, so now Murph loses his lead-in and goes from being the highest-rated English-language show in his slot to getting his ass kicked by Tirico and now B&B's lead-in is smaller and they lose to a Mac-less Saloon and so I declare that the whole Score bad book is LoHo's fault.

(May not be true, but it was fun saying it.)

Do better? In what way? ESPN posted a 4.6 with adult men in afternoon drive. They beat B&B, who had a 3.4 (I think). MJH consistently has been in that ballpark for four or five years. Many ratings books were in the 5s. A couple were in the 6s. I'm rooting for those guys because several of them are friends and I like to see my friends prosper. And I broke in a couple of the fellas. Don't say, however, it's done better. It's inaccurate.

I guess I was thinking in relative terms, Mac, and thinking specifically of the ratings when B&B is the competition. After you got the monster ratings against the Telander shitfest, didn't things tighten up considerably when the Score went to B&B against you? I seem to recall it was back-and-forth and usually pretty close. The margin this time by which your old mates beat B&B seemed larger than usual to me, but I could be wrong.

I remember several years ago when Mr. Snyder wanted to stick a fork in Mr. McNeil's, Mr. Jurkovic's and Mr. Teinowitz's show. I believe it was right after Mr. Kornheiser went off on Mr. McNeil on Mr. Kornheiser's show.

The problem is that CBS/WSCR management is not advertising/marketing their shows. They let the shows try to sell themselves. You need to have quality shows and market the shows to be successful.

The only qualtiy show is Mully & Hanley and it is not being marketed by management. I bought all the mugs that were given away and was told by Paul Agase, the GM at the time, your sure getting alot of free advertising instead of being thanked. He didn't realize that I was marketing his product also at no cost to the station. What does CBS management do make Paul Agase the national sales manager when a reschuffling took place.

Great move make a guy that doens't know how to sell or market the national sales manager.

Mully & Hanley bought there own shirts that were being given away since the WSCR didn't. Another example of the talent being smarter than the management.

Then the WSCR management takes Mully & Hanleys producer and moves him to another position on the WXCR. Smart move. Take the guy who worked well with Mully & Hanley and knew how to run a show (the important moring drive where you are suppose to get the highest ad revenue) and move him. Then you lay all this on Rock along with his normal job.

That is why I am advertising on Chicagosportswebio they know how to market the shows along with having talented hosts.

Where the fuck did you go to school? You write like an illiterate child. There were several run-on sentences and punctuation errors in this overall clusterfuck of a post. I had to dumb myself down to try and comprehend it. If I'm looking for an attorney, I'm hoping that he or she has better writing skills than a child, bitchtits. Also, quit acting like you're some local celebrity or radio power player. No one cares where you advertise or how you do it. No one will know where in the world you are advertising, as long as you're lubing up North's asshole and advertising on Webio. No one will hear it. So take your Barely Legal, your shitty ad spots, and your ambulance-chasing hack ass to some other board and spam over there, dipshit. You're the unwashable, crusted-on shitstain in the underpants of life.

I don't think Kornheiser mentioned him by name, but he was clearly talking about Dan McNeil....something like "Some guy in Chicago that I can't stand"...maybe Mac can give some more info..it was right around the time that his show was being taken off of ESPN 1000 in favor of the Jay Mariotti 9-11 show..

Mike North was the WSCR.

Maybe 10 years ago, but the last 5 years was a total failure, spin it anyway u want, his product/brand sucked and it was all on him, he had total control and he shit himself.

Whenever the WSCR got national attention it was becuase of North. Hes a great interviewer, a great salesman, and loyal beyond belief.

Right, anyone who acts like a ass-clown will get attention, Norths great interview talent has always baffled me, I think he is awful, its the same questions, when its someone he likes, its all soft questions, North will go down as the most overrated sports talk host this city has ever had. Stroke him all you want, but call me when he actually puts out more then 5k in his ventures, otherwise, he is just mooching off deep pockets.

Brad, I love the fire and passion, but your grammar whore act isn't a very good one when you continue to do shit like this.

That being said, hilarious post.

Reading some of Spada's posts, I believe I know how he defends his clients. It is similar to the Chewbaca defense as featured in "South Park." He rambles on and on, "I drink, you drink, he drinks, you complain you do not understand you, what does this have to do with anything? Absolutely nothing, but catch me with Dick Butkus on Barely Legal (or is it Bearly Legal?) on webio because Mike North is the king of Chicago. Mike North is The WSCR. So you see, members of the supposed jury, if Mike North can eat Marconi off a sneaker, you must acquit."
