Any shows that you've felt the finale was great or a giant let down?

Just got finished watching what will likely be the series finale for Scrubs. Thought it was damn near perfect, one of the best I've ever seen. Was trying to think of other shows that went out on similar high notes. Arrested Development was good but felt a little thrown together. The very end of the Cheers finale was pretty decent. Seinfeld ending was both brilliant and sucked balls. Sopranos was infuriating yet clever. Have heard M.A.S.H. had a good one but I have yet to take the time to see it.

i dont like scrubs, so i can't really have an opinion on that. I fucking loved the friends finally because it meant no more of that shit would ever be produced. I liked both growing pains and home improvement when they moved out of an empty house and kind of reflected on it, however the growing pains house lost alot of coolness once Mr. Cooper moved in. The MacGyver ending was a cool, but weird as well. All in all, I would have to say Mr. Belvidere had the best finally ever. Idk compare this to brett favre. What would have been better? Ending after the NFC title game while people were excited about what was and what could be, or come back for 1 or 2 seasons where you have no idea what will happen but it most likely wont be good and most definetly wont live up to what was.

i think somewhere this subject has been broached...but why not.

my opinion. and i'm probably forgetting a few cos i'm rushing here...

Great Finales

M*A*S*H
Frasier
The Wonder Years
Six Feet Under
Mary Tyler Moore

Decent Finales

Friends
Star Trek: The Next Generation
ER
Home Improvement
Cheers
Full House
Growing Pains
Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Bad Finales

Seinfeld
The Sopranos
The X-Files
St. Elsewhere
Beverly Hills 90210

a lot of the TGIF sitcoms had OK finales, and I think I remember ALF being all right too...the shows themselves were mediocre so i don't know how they could have great finales. "Home Improvement" was one of the better ones.

Oh and the reason why AD felt rushed was because it was canceled. It was not meant to end that way.

Think of the upcoming film as the "real" finale, I guess.

Wonder Years...yes. I have the entire series on DVD. Someone from Canada was
taping them off the TV when they did reruns and put it together. I think I am missing
a few episodes but I am glad I have 95% of them. I should dig those out some weekend.

OZ ended poorly for a great show.

Based on what I've read at E! Online, TVguide.com, and ew.com, the Web site of Entertainment Weekly, there is a chance that "Scrubs" may not necessarily be finished on ABC. It might be back for one more season...Next week, ABC, CBS, FOX, the CW & NBC will all announce their fall schedules for 2009-10 in New York, complete with all the bells, whistles, and fanfare. To this day, the 1983 series finale of "M*A*S*H" remains the most watched finale in TV history. I happen to like that finale, along with the one from "Cheers".

Easily my favorite series of all time (I've seen all 9 seasons at least 3-4 times).

The ending was REAL bad.... especially at the time. The 2nd movie was somewhat dissapointing too, but I felt there was just so much more they could do with that finale. Haha, it still bothers me when I think about it.

M*A*S*H and The Wire pretty much up top out my list. Of course the M*A*S*H finale was basically a movie they'd been writing for quite awhile and The Wire was one of the best written/acted "TV" shows in history throughout its run IMO(with the premium cable advantage).

Really hope that it doesn't come back. Think it went out on a high note and leave it at that.

Remembered a couple of others that were pretty good:
Boy Meets World
Homocide Life on The Street (follow up tv movie was good as well)
Family Ties

Agreed, completely underrated. Probably b/c it was on Friday nights. I still remember setting my vcr before I'd go out so I wouldn't miss it.

Richard Belzer as Det. John Munch.

Can you name the other shows he's appeared in as that character? (Most shows for any one character)

agreed, "Homicide" was one of my favorite shows, and one of those "best shows not seen" like "Northern Exposure".

I still like the end of Angel, great 2 episode and best last 2 min ever with best last line ever.

I agree MASH was a great ender. Cheers meh.
Wonder Years was cool too.

dad started a firm then died, mom took over, Wayne helped her. He met Winnie at the airport when she came home from school in Europe with his wife.

My favorite part of the ALF series finale was when the dad on the show was caught smoking crack with a male prostitute. Oh, wait, that was real life.

interesting thing is that that was not originally "intended" to be the finale episode ("independence day"). the last 5 minutes was shot as a regular episode, while the network decided whether to cancel the show or keep it going--they decided to "cancel" it but allowed the writers to put in a "finale scene". so while i laud the finale, i guess it wasn't technically one. or a natural one or whatever.

the voiceover "ending" was all done in post production. none of the cast knew about it, i think, until it aired. something like that. so daniel stern i guess was the last man standing.

HA! I KILL ME! That's a common thing "ALF", a.k.a. Gordon Shumway, always said when he tried to make Willie and the Tanner family laugh on that sitcom which lasted from 1986-89 on NBC. I know you're happy for me, but "ALF" has landed (get it?) on WGN America Sundays 5-6p on DIRECTV 307 for a full hour as part of "Outta Sight Retro Nights".

i have to agree that 6 feet under was the best finish to any show i have ever seen. it was perfect. the wonder years was great, too. the sopranos finale was just on A&E the other night, so i watched it for the hell of it. while it definitely was not a great ending, i didnt think it was as horrible as some did. it left me disappointed though.

Angel ending was great considering how much the prior season had sucked for the most part. Real sad but great death scene w/ Wesley, not to mention when Lorne went all bad ass and killed Lindsey. Very well done in what seemed to be a rushed finale in the face of cancellation.
