Well, a show that's struggling a bit, ratings-wise, just lost its signature segment.

If only the station had another ex-Bear on the payroll that they could pop right into Doug's slot on the post-game . . . o-o-o-oh, w-w-w-wait, th-th-th-they d-d-d-d-do.

I know 670 The SCORE's parent company CBS gave the ax a workout yesterday with Bill Zwecker, Howard Sudberry & Joanie Lum each being laid off down the street at CBS2, plus Anne State getting demoted from the 10p news with Rob Johnson, and the elimination of their weekend morning newscasts...I wonder if Doug Buffone's the only SCORE guy laid off in their cutbacks...I really enjoyed when he & Ed O'Bradovich literally had heart attacks on every Bears' postgame show on 670 AM...

Sorry, but I can't get on board with the outrage. I liked Doug very much personally, but professionally, he didn't bring that much to the table. And the Doug & OB post game show (particularly the OB portion) has been getting progressively worse for years.

Sure, there are several people at the station I'd dump before Buffone (Lawrence Holmes, David Schuster, etc), but I don't think the loss is all that tragic. Good luck to Doug, though, he seemed like a good dude.

Come on guys, don't you think that if Buffone was really gone that there would be some news on it somewhere...the only sports media guy at moment, Ed Sherman, mentions nothing about it on the Crains website.

All I know is Mully & Hanley said there would be no Big Doug today because he left the station and said their farewells. And it's May 1, not April 1, so I took their word for it.

That's too bad...Doug Buffone & Ed O'Bradovich always scored, no pun intended, with their very popular Bears' postgame show during the football season. It was must listen to sports talk radio when Doug & O.B. broke down the game, complete with Jeff Joniak & Tom Thayer's call on WBBM 780 and the Chicago Bears Radio Network. Truth be told, with the exception of the "Big Doug" feature on "Mully & Hanley" Friday mornings, complete with Russ Mitera's custom made parodies, this was Buffone's offseason...With the exception of occasional Bears' news and an open airshift, Buffone wasn't doing much on The SCORE other than his duties with O.B. after Bear games & "Chicago NFL Live" during the week after the White Sox wrap up play.

What worries me is who will be replacing him as host of Chicago NFL Live? Zaidman? Hub?

Doug & OB to the Bears were what Norm Van Lier was to the Bulls. Perhaps the brains at The Score are thinking that Hampton is more contemporary for the post-game show but why fix something that wasn't broken?

To me, The Score has never recovered from firing Les Grobstein in 2001 and then eliminating overnight local programming altogether.

Now I have an idea for a new thread......

I liked them, they could rock a post game like no others, especially in a bad loss like the first packers game last year. If they are just shutting it down, good on them. I just hope they are NOT going to work for that piece of shit meatball north. Big Doug might have been a bit meaty at times, but at least he could back it up. I can respect a guy who might be a bit overboard on chicago sports when he actually played for one of their teams, I have no respect for a guy who sold fucking hot dogs.

Because a man sold hot dogs DOES NOT MEAN HIS OPINION IS INVALID.
Do you have to be a DUKE grad to give sports opinion? That's BS.
As of today,The Score 670 could go fuck itself. I have been a loyal listener
since they opened shop on Belmont avenue. Now it is a mere shell of what it once was. I'm sure they are looking for young (cheap) voices. Too bad most of those voices suck! Either that or they are all cloned out of the same factory.

Heavy emphasis on the clone factory. You got to figure, all non-essential (read: not doing a 6am-6pm weekday shift) and all overpriced talent are in trouble, soon as their contracts are up. Or if any of that talent is high maintenance then others. Which covers Sudberry, Ofman, Heubner (expensive for update guys), Mac. And who knows? Maybe they figure they can continue B&B when the next B's contract is due for renewal.

It does do one thing: it breaks up the logjam of talent and lets some producers step up as hosts.

I agree... I always looked forward to hearing those Friday morning parodies... it was a very entertaining bit.

Agree on the factory statement. The term personality has been lost on the managment. Sometimes personality clashes and it doesn't work and this goes both ways. The on air guys just trying to make sure they dont F up and the managment guys who just want on air people.
