Here's what you've been served, work with it:

When Murph is let go from the Score:

Reunite Murph and Fred in the morning-they beat M&M for years.

Keep your Hood in 10-2-I'd pair him with Webby though...

Stick Monsters in drive time...and get rid of Jen, sorry.

Then let Chet talk to himself minus the boxer all night. Or pair him with George.

OB and Doug for the Bears season. Never let Jesse on the air...and maybe get Urkel to do updates...

And you'll compete with both stations. At worst you'll be fragmenting their listenership. At best you might beat one or the other...

I agree with this and try to build a little network of tiny AM stations. WBIG in Aurora, WJJG in Elmhurst, WCPT (820 AM) in Crystal Lake -- hell, pay for the 9pm - 1am slot for a while on these channels and bulid yourself a radio presence. Rerun the Monsters in that time slot if you feel the need. WKRS, WJOL, and WVON are looking to make some money... see what you can do.

Good post with good ideas. I dont think Murph is getting fired though...

Oddly, I think Chet & George has potential to be fascinatingly entertaining.

Chet's the one guy who can probably talk to himself inbetween guests. Boom boom is absolutely horrible. Sounds like a nice guy when I can understand what he's saying, but has no knowledge of sports outside of boxing, which comes up in almost every interview. I think Chet realizes how bad this is as well - they now play/analyze music/movies from the 70's/80's, and probably talk as much non-sports as actual sports.

A complete disaster of a show.

Every station has its bad host...CSW has Boom Boom, and WSCR has Hampton, and AM1000 has Harry.

True, but I don't know of any, including Hampton, who can't speak and has little/no knowledge of Chicago sports. At least Hampton knows who the Cubs are playing, simple things. I don't care for his opinion either on baseball, but he's an expert next to Boom Boom.

Agreed. Both guys are in their current position because of their name recognition. At least Hampton is a Chicago sports legend...who the hell cares about Boom Boom in Chicago?

comparing Harry to Hampton or Mancini is not fair at all...
I can listen to and understand Harry.

Agreed.

Did they hire Boom Boom just because he's somewhat of a name despite being in California and possibly having brain damage?

I think North used to have him on back in the day.

put Hampton and Mancini together and call it "brain damage"

I guess I'm not surprised. I'm holding out hope that maybe Buffone replaces him.

if you read the header, I'm assuming they get the 820 frequency. Otherwise, what I said is moot. If you think I'm a fan of Nort, you're wrong.

I'm not saying he'll convince Comcast to do it, but he'd be going up against who he'd love to beat. I didn't think he'd convince Comcast to give him a morning show to begin with...

City, too ambitious. Might have to raise some real capital and make good on promises to pay back. It's a different kind of a heavy lifting than coning a guy who owns a nurse employment agency.

As much as I defend CSW, I honestly dont undestand how they can afford the salaries that they have taken on. Unless the big name talent is cause for some pricey advertising rates.
I wonder if the advertisers ask to see the listener numbers, which for an online station are obviously easy to get, and unlike terrestrial radio, 100% accurate.
CSW advertising dollars have got to be more than most of us would imagine...right?

Ad revenue on the web is abysmal.

Recession revenue for radio or web ads has gotta be pretty lean right now. Ouch.

From what I've seen, the downtown stations are taking a hit while the suburban stations are doing well enough, hitting budget at the very least. Right now, it makes great sense for small businesses to advertise on smaller stations: you can focus on one cluster of burbs and air more spots for less on a station with a strong regional presence. (Moreover, if you're in a chamber of commerce that has some sort of deal with a station, the deals can be very attractive.) Hypothetically speaking, if you're a restaurant in Arlington Heights, and 92.7 is still Kiss FM and not a shitty repeater for a shitty talk station, you'll be much better served sinking your ad budget into blitzing the northwest suburbs rather than grabbing a few precious minutes on 780. Of course, 92.7 is no longer a station that plays popular music for white people in the suburbs, so that particular example is no longer valid, but in other areas and other frequencies, it seems to work.

ok, i'm not local and check this site like every 6 months so someone explain this to me : webio actually has a website with these ex=score guys on the air/streaming? yes? Or is this just something they're building with North and JHood? I would actually like to listen to some of the old score guys.

A station in this market will be priced pretty high. The last piece of info I could find on this was a report about acquisition of a package of three FM stations in DeKalb, Arlington Hgts, and Kankakee. Total price tag: 28 mil in 2004. Make it a quality transmitter covering Chicagoland and you are looking at least at 10 mil, plus immediately accruing expenses to run the thing. Without significant equity funding, this would be beyond Pappy's means. The dark horse in this game is Jiggs with his Harvard alum connections. If they come up with a solid model/plan, Jiggs conceivably could con a Harvard venture capitalist buddy to sink a few dozen mil in the deal.

Yeah, those are the Fred Eychaner/Harvey Wells stations. North wouldn't have to buy a station outright, just hash out some sort of programming agreement wherein North takes advantage of everyone.

I dont think even the suburban stations are doing well enough to support the kind of money North has thrown around.

Biggest Mistake of any guys were Doug and OB goign there.
