Dan McNeil heading back to WSCR-AM
Mike Murphy, Dan Hampton and Laurence Holmes out as regular hosts

Danny Mac is back.

WSCR-AM 670 announced Wednesday that Dan McNeil is returning to the station. McNeil, an original Score personality and Chicago sports broadcast veteran, most recently worked for rival WMVP-AM 1000 as part of the "Mac, Jurko and Harry" show.

"The Danny Mac Show" will launch June 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"It's going to be a blast. I can't wait until June 15," McNeil said during Wednesday's Boers & Bernstein Show. A decision on McNeil's broadcast partner is expected to be announced soon.

The hiring of McNeil, who faced several suspensions at WMVP, dislodges the previous 10 a.m. to noon "Hampton & Holmes" show that featured Bears Hall of Famer Dan Hampton and Laurence Holmes. Also displaced is noon to 2 p.m. host Mike Murphy.

"Laurence Holmes is still going to be involved with the radio station, talking different 'day' parts. And Hamp is going to be involved in more of a football and Bears role," said Mitch Rosen, WSCR-AM program director.

"We've offered Murph an opportunity to do something on talk at night and other day parts. He and I will communicate more about it. That's how everything shakes out."

Murphy, the consummate Cubs fan, is a Score original.

"Murph was one of the first people on the air and I know how important he is to the station," said Rosen. "I truly hope he stays around and is on the air with us for a while to come. I love the guy."

The new daytime lineup will be:

5 a.m.-9 a.m.: Mully & Hanley ( Mike Mulligan and Brian Hanley)

9 a.m.-1 p.m.: Danny Mac

1 p.m.-6 p.m.: Boers & Bernstein(McNeil will contribute to Terry Boers and Dan Bernstein for the first half hour)

Meanwhile, Bears defensive legends Ed O'Bradovich and Doug Buffone are joining ChicagoSportsWebio.com after serving as broadcasts partners on WSCR.

"They have hosted the best Bears postgame show for several years and, as in the past, Doug and 'OB' will be out with the fans at remote locations during the Bears' season," David Hernandez, president and CEO of ChicagoSportsWebio.com, said in a statement.

O'Bradovich and Buffone will throw out a ceremonial first pitch before Thursday's White Sox-Oakland game at U.S. Cellular Field.

Not to be a dick, but there a ton of threads about this already. It is big news though, so you get a pass. :P

This article had a few quotes that I hadn't seen elsewhere....thus, I felt the needs to share.

The ONLY thing I'd change is I'd move B&B back to middays, Mac to drive time with Meatpants, and Murph to night shift. 18 hours of SOLID programming.

I can't be too unhappy with this. In fact, I'm pretty happy. I didn't like the Holmes (ass) and Hampton (can't speak) show, and while I didn't hate Murphy, just thought he way overreached for many of his topics...I do like Mac, I'm not in love with him like some on this board are, but he's a good host. It will be interesting to see how he does solo for 4 hours a day.

Vinny, if I programmed The SCORE, I'd have "Boers & Bernstein" start at 12Noon instead of 1p, with Mac in afternoon drive from 3-6p. I'd also move Dan Patrick's nationally syndicated sports talk show to 9a right after "Mully & Hanley in the Morning", especially because some of the things Patrick talks about sounds outdated. A case in point...D.P. will likely be talking about Game 1 of the NBA Finals tomorrow between the Magic & Lakers, but by the time the Patrick show airs at 10p locally, Game 1 of that series & Game 4 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals between the Red Wings & Penguins will be over. It loses a lot of its freshness waiting some 12 hours on tape delay, unless you'd want to listen to Patrick's interviews on demand at 670thescore.com. Still, it'll be good to hear Mac back on SportsRadio 670 The SCORE, but it sucks to a certain extent because I like "Waddle & Silvy" on ESPN Radio 1000 as much as the next guy.

Personally, I have no interest in listening to Patrick attempting to buddy-up with everyone that he interviews.

I've always wondered something about Patrick. What's with his way over the top man love of Adam Sandler? Seemed like he talked about him on his 1000 show constantly even when he wasn't going to be on the show. Constant name dropping. Were they doing the old bang bang bang or something?

I'm glad that Mac is back...but I am really disapoointed that he doesn't have a partner. I dont care for solo host shows.

He'll have a partner, relax.

It's all about taking one step at a time.
