I believe he had a shortened show yesterday, due to the Sox game, and I skimmed through the podcast hearing him only talk about all of the stuff he had to 'rifle" through in such a short time (tiny bag).

In any case, has he actually addressed the death of his show yet? I clicked on the stream to hear Hamp & Holmes address it, saying it wasn't a funeral for the next two weeks...blah blah blah.

Anyone hear/see anything from the angry mustachio'd one?

I've gotta tell ya ... I'm betting against the crowd and suspecting that he will handle the situation (on air, anyway) in a rather respectable manner. I don't suspect he'll take many, if any, shots at people. Don't know why I have that feeling, but I do.

Doesn't mean I don't think he's a pee-pee, 'cause he is.

I just think he's going to be low-key about it. :?

(at least I won't have to hear about that Vuckovich character anymore ... ye gods ...)

I assume Mitch told him that if he goes ballistic they will consider it a breach of contract. If he plays nice, he gets his big paycheck for almost no work through the end of the contract.

Why would he burn bridges...especially in today's environment? I think he's still considering his options. Based on reports, he will likely be offered another slot at The Score. The WEBIO is about the only other likely scenario. Actually, this could provide insight into Murph's view of the potential success of North's venture. A reunion of Murph & Fred vs. a late night or weekend gig?

So I wonder if he will go all the way up to next Friday and say NOTHING? Perhaps just a goodbye at the end of his last show?

I mean, it's NOT surprising that he is the only one NOT talking about it - it is strange how he's put himself on such an island, by himself, on that station.

The one thing I can say for Murph, is that he's become a comfortable and recognizable "blanket" for Chicago sports fans over the years - from his carousel of the same ole audio drops to his bits and games, repetition IS big in radio and I have no doubt that's why he's been fairly successful DESPITE being a dick to most he's worked with.

I'll be interested to hear when he finally talks about it - hopefully one of his callers brings it up (after getting on-air under the guise of something else Cubs-related).

Tool Of The Week today:

A caller just called in and tee'd up Mitch Rosen for 'extending the Score's trailer trash hours' and leaving Murph fans with nowhere to go. A couple of callers later a guy nominated Mitch's boss, Rod Zimmerman for the same 'trailer trash' expansion.

Murph thanked him, then said 'everyone's eligible...even ole Murph', and quickly moved on to the next call.

I was half listening, but in response to one of his caller's Murph said he'd be around ... then something about September 1st.

Didn't he sign a multi year deal last year?

I don't know, but the dumpster outside the Score building is full of yellow pads, the contents of Abby's old drawers, a mustache comb, Brown's chicken wrappers, and a Terry Boers voodoo doll full of pins.

Harry, Murph's boss "won" the second to last "Tool of the Week" award today...Coincidence?

Pretty low class by Murph but hell it's got to be hard to have a forum to trash your boss after getting laid off and not take your shots. I don't blame him too much. It was actually entertaining.

Mitch Rosen said, in the Trib, that "He loves the guy". So there will be a role if Murph wants it. I think he will take weekends and rare night shows during the Sox season (Hit & Run would be perfect for him). When the Sox are done he'll have weeknights.

Everybody says Webio but where? Are they gonna fire guys with contracts this early? Pappy is gonna ask Hernandez to eat money on top of it already failing? They just started and have their 9-6 lineup set?

I don't think any other station would take Murph. Not WGN the way he's bashed Tribune Company and the Cubs at times. ESPN has heard what a head ache he is. They don't want him.

I think he'll stay at the Score.

He has no other place to go. Remember all the times he has been moved - and he would come on the air and say it was great? The guy - until very recently - kept his day time job just in case. In fact, he tried to get the Score to let him end him morning show at 7"50 when they moved downtime so he could make it to the suburbs by the 9AM start( he was already ending the show about 7:55 with his them,e song starting when they were at the Belmont studios).

He only left after he felt secure ( or rich enough after banking two full time salaries for over 15 years) - and to think he won't be quiet and stay for a long as they let him want is not following history.

He won't burn a bridge - he knows his time is up, there is nothing else to go to - and he can ride it out for whatever they allow him to have - just like his hero, Wally Phillips.

From the score website

my "day job" in mechanical sales for a large suburban Chicago mechanical contractor--- which I would keep for a 27 year career.
