Walks can be your friend...They can also be your enemy. Placido Polanco unloaded the bases with a 3-run double in the top 7th to give the Tigers a 6-3 lead. The White Sox only have 5 hits tonight, but 11 free passes, including 4 in the bottom 9th and an RBI freebie from Jim Thome. Paul Konerko doubled 2 of the 3 to tie it at 6-6, with pinch-runner DeWayne Wise thrown out at the plate! Joshua Fields runs for Konerko, and Anthony John walks intentionally to set up Gordon Beckham.

Gordon strikes out, and extra innings are coming up with Fields at first next.

Hawk and Steve are stupid. The ump didn't call him safe. He was avoiding contact from the player running into him. That's why he put his hands up.

As much as I want to think he was safe, we didn't see a conclusive replay. Hawk and Stone act like it was obvious. It was close but you couldn't tell if the glove was on him when he crossed the plate. There is not a shot to tell that.

Anyway, nice comback. Let's win it. We need one of these. Haven't had one in a while.

Linebrink needs some movement on his fastball.

The bigger problem was Cox sending him. You don't do that, in that spot, unless it's a guarentee. It would have been 2nd and 3rd with one out.

Damn, that really blows, come all the way back and then give up a homer in the top of the next inning :?

Because the Sox are so good at getting guys in from 3rd with less than 1 out.

Cox forced the defense to make a perfect relay throw....they did. Tip your cap and try again next batter/inning.

I guess, because it was so close, you're right. Could have gone either way. And we do suck at sac flys unless it's Konerko.

Don't get me wrong, I totally see your point. But sometimes, you have to force the defense to make a play.

That landing on the Dye catch did not look good.

Beardown, I take back everything I never said about you. I amazed Stone falls into the act with Hawk.

First, you are correct the ump was raising his arms to jump out of the way of the play.

Second, the first angle they showed you could not see the tag or the hand on the plate and Hawk is screaming "Safe". At least get an angle that can be clearly seen before the stupidity seeps out. I was cracking up listening to this old man scream about something he cant even see.

The play needed to be cut down to frame by frame to really tell, unless you have the EYE OF THE HAWK.

Sox lose a tough one. the Tigers are not a dominant team, but they are a team that can hit and not just Home Runs either. With guys like Inge, Polanco, Ordonez,Thames,Cabrerra, and Granderson, this is a tough lineup. With Willis pitching against Buerhle, you would have thought this one should go the Sox way. Now they have to face Verlander (6-2 3.26 ERA) vs Danks 4-4 with an ERA over 5!!! Good luck....

As a Cubs fan watching a good part of the game last night and the day game the day before I gotta say...
What is up with Hawk and Stone?
Hawk need to stop calling players safe or calling strikes when they're out and they're balls. Seriously, I hate being in another room, hearing what I think is a game winning play to come running in and see that no, Hawk just jumped the gun a little. And yes, I used to hate the Caray "It Might be... it could be.... it... is caught on the warning track." Don't wish the player safe at first, make the play by play call when you know what it is.

Stoney seems to dislike Hawk. It's weird, like they're both doing color in the first place, or something like that. I notice Stoner won't get in on the Put it on the Board Yes! at all. sounds weird to hear Hawk croaking that out on his own.

It really cracks me up how much cub fans hate Steve Stone now. The guy was SO beloved in the 80's and 90's he could have ran for office.

I hope you're not referring to my comment. I never said I didn't like Steve Stone. If you go back into the old Mike North posts, you'd see that I regularly said I listened to MNMS only when Stoney was on the show.
That being said, he's been pretty snarkey against the Cubs since his dismissal. But that's against the cubs, not against Darkside. If I saw him I'd probably tell him I loved his works, didn't so much like his modeling career.

Great comments and observations in this thread. I mean that. I agree with the umpire was getting out of the way / keeping his balance and not making a safe call. That said...the ball beat him, but I think replay showed him to be safe. bang-bang. Have not heard much talk about replay in baseball lately have we?? That is a good thing in my book. no replay for umps to look at / decide!

Tonight after a heart breaker Verlander vs. the nose picker. This has all the signs of an ass whooping and the Tigers go up 3-1 in the series. Did anyone beside myself think Dontrelle looked a little.....................nutso?

During the 80's and 90's you never heard Steve Stone other than when he was doing a game....and he is a fine color guy.

But once he started doing analysis outside of his regular color duties a few years back, like the stuff on the Score, he turned off a few people with his personality (egotistical), which never really seem to come thru in his broadcast.

Stone's personality hasn't changed a bit. He was a pompous ass then and he's a pompous ass now. The only that changed is who he broadcasts for.

His personality probably hasn't changed but his broadcasting style has though. He reveals more of himself during the broadcast now. A few weeks ago MLB Network showed an old Cubs/Pirates game from '91 and one thing I noticed was that aside from commenting precisely on what was happening in the game, Stoney didn't really say much else. He didn't spin any yarns about his playing days like he does now with Hawk. Harry did about 70% of the talking while Steve would occasionally chime in with a thought here and there.

That was 1 game and Harry would dominate a broadcast every now and then (especially when he was sober) . If Stone didn't share stories with Harry he certainly did with Flip and with Farmer. Maybe it just sounds like he's doing it more because Hawk talks about so much shit other broadcasters don't talk about.

Off Topic....What the hell was wrong with Hawk's face the other day? The game was televised on the U...so maybe that explains it....but on my direct TV signal he was extremly red & blotchy...and Stone looked "normal". Just weird looking.

Joshua Fields has replaced Paul Konerko at first to start the top 8th and Detroit leading 2-1. Konerko may be the latest member of the '09 White Sox injured. :(

Justin Verlander allows 6 hits & a Jim Thome homer, but he goes the distance as the Tigers beat the sagging White Sox 2-1. To make matters worse, Paul Konerko leaves this game in the top 8th and Joshua Fields does what he does best...strikeout to end it.
