Quote:
It was a wild day at Chicagosportswebio.com Friday.

The new Internet sports talk site outlet had checks to its employees bounce this week. Then late in the afternoon, David Hernandez, the CEO of Spectrum Entertainment, fired Mike North, his wife BeBe and Jeff Schwartz, who helped found the station.

Mr. North said he was fired by Mr. Hernandez after questioning him about Webio's finances. He said 12 checks bounced a couple of weeks ago, and as many as 30 this week.

"When people's checks started to bounce, we wanted to find out why," Mr. North said. "He never responded to our emails and phone calls."

Mr. Hernandez could not be reached for comment. On Monday, he told Crain's that Webio was making a profit.

Many people in the industry doubted Mr. Hernandez's claim. The station launched in April. Mr. Hernandez spent considerably on marketing with TV ads and billboards. He also brought in personalities such as Chet Coppock and former boxer Ray "Boom-Boom" Mancini, signing them and others to two-year contracts.

Mr. North said he hopes to to take over Webio. His "Monsters in the Morning" show on Comcast SportsNet was simulcast on Webio.

"I still think it is a tremendous idea," Mr. North said.

Let it never be said that people on this board are stupid. We all knew this "we're doing well" shit was all bullshit every god damn step of the way.

Shit, I told Weber to cash his checks as soon as he got them, right when this thing started.

Fuckin' North. He says he wants to take over. Yeah, right. You want to be financially responsible when you see the guy you suckered go under.

This also means that Hernandez will pull out of North's Comcast show. He was their main sponsor with "Next Step".

So now Comcast will end that show shortly.

Interesting in here is that Jiggs and Patterson are still 'employed'. You have to wonder what happens Monday. I might actually wake up early to see the train wreck on CSN.

Jiggs and Jiggles weren't employed by Webio. They were a part of the Comcast TV show. It's just aired on sports webio.

North was GM of Webio. Bebe had some made-up position and Space Ball was in charge of ads.

They fuckin took on 25 to 30 employees. They were paying big money for ads on TV and at the Sox games. Of course checks were gonna bounce. They didn't have any good talent and it's tough for regular media outlets to get sponsors in these times.

Yeah I was just wondering what actually this means? Is the show still on comcast, but not webio? What does this mean for the other guys on webio?

He'll file for bankruptcy on this business. Those contracts won't mean anything once that happens. They're all screwed.

The show will still be on Comcast for a while but not for long. Like we all predicted, it won't last a year.

Man that sucks for guys like Webby and Freddy, I really like them. I would rather have them in the morning slot on the Score than M&H.

Yeah. Not so much for Fred cuz he was a last minute add. He had nothing going so this doesn't matter to him. Weber was a producer at the Score and he was starting to get "air time". Now there is no room for him. All producers are with their shows and they have to find air time for Larry and Murph.

You think AM 820 is gonna take them on after reading this? Shit, Hernandez said that was gonna happen a couple of days ago. He said they were making a profit too even though that SOB knew he was bouncing checks for a couple of weeks.

You can see what Hernandez was trying to do. He was trying to get a radio station to be a partner/sucker before it was realized that he was bleeding money. He was trying to get in publicized that he was making a profit. He couldn't pull it off. He had to fire North and North went to Sherman so it's out in the open.

What will he do now? Isnt Hernandez the MAIN sponsor for the sponsorless Monsters show? In this economic time, Who's gonna pay that tab? This has to go deeper than just bouncing checks. I bet he missed some promised advertisement paymnts for Norths Comcast telecast.

Look out David! Fritzy and Knuckles are lookin for ya. Someones got to pay!

Don't blame North for this one, it's on David. He's in big big trouble. Big trouble.

I wonder if the checks bouncing mean that ChicagoSportsWebio.com altogether will soon be no more... :?

And Hernandez has nobody to blame but himself for listening to a complete fucking loon named Mike Nort.

Thats like listening to a child molester on tips on how to babysit.

I'm sure Ed Sherman will apologize for his lack of journalistic diligence. Like I wrote 2 days ago (I think), if Hernandez created a separate business entity for the webio—like an LLC or S-corp—he can just dissolve the business, keep his company, keep his personal assets and stiff everyone involved.
