No surprise that WestsideHussra would be all over the map with his interpretation of a few comments made today. Let me amplify. My definition of a microphone sniffer is 100% independent of sportsradio fans, i.e guys who show up at remotes, post on message boards, etc. In no way does that represent my view of boardees. I was referring to David Hernandez types... guys who get their rocks off (great Stones track from "Exile") on being in business with media dopes... guys who already are successful, but in dire need of "trophy friends..." guys who have this burning need to be "in the mix" with media people.

There was a guy -- maybe 55 years old or so -- who approached Sheri and me at a Sox tailgate a couple years ago.... and freaked us both out. He knew we were fans of Hawaii and INSISTED we stay at his time share there. He wouldn't take no for an answer. I hadn't spent more than 10 minutes with this guy. Carl the Sox fan resurfaced at the golf outing a few summers and pulled a similiar game. It was so uncomfortable my skin crawled.

IN NO WAY... was I referring to fans of the show who hang out with us and just... well.... be. I made some life-long friends in the '90s with guys who showed at remotes. As the friendships evolved, I traveled around the country with, played golf with, fished with, partied with, gone to games with... several guys. My life has made better because of TRUE friends -- not fawning ALSers, like Slapshot Ed, Vandy, Three Putt Gene, Highland Park Kevin, 1-Iron Mark, Golfboy (Scorehead #84), Gridiron Assassin and others. In this decade, I've enjoyed getting to know many more of you cats.... like Doug... Frank C... Eaglo Jeff (who once interned for me at SCR, but now hangs out with me and my Highland bandits occasionally on Thursday nights)... STU-GOTZ... Spaulding... BF.... and some others. I will not apologize for my friends. The fact they like the show may be what brought us together, but it isn't what KEEPS US doing things together. THAT would be creepy and by BOTH parties.

As for the $200K I was offered by webio, I said I took the offer as anything BUT an insult.... that I grew up a minimum wage kid. Actually, the offer was beefier than I would have expected from a start-up, Internet -only operation. As it turns out... we now know why.

Hussra, do me a favor. Pound away at me if you like... I don't give a shit. Just don't misrepresent what I say.

They had no worries of you accepting, Mac. They read the board and knew you would not roll out bed for that kinda coin. Good thing you wouldn't, a man has to know his limitations.

That's funny, Reason. That comment was taken totally out of context also. It's a quote from a movie, actually. The recently departed Robert Prosky, as "Leo" in Chicago-based classic "Thief" said "you couldn't get me out of bed for juice ("the vig"). I once said it about Ditka when somebody thought they could get him at a banquet for $1000. I said Da Coach doesn't get out of bed for less than 10 grand. What I said in December about getting out of bed for less than $250K was a joke and anybody who heard it knows that to be true.

I do take with a grain, STU, but it is frustrating when you work as hard as I do establishing trust with a fanbase and douchebags shit all over it by misrepresenting what was said. The last few years, both in places like this and when I do interviews with media writers, I've gained a better understanding of athletes who don't want to talk to the media. Jesus, the guy from the paper for which I write (Lewis Lazarre) and I talked for 20 minutes the day I signed and the next day his piece had a sub-head that said I was doing a solo show. People hear what they want to... or just don't listen. It is a skill, ya know.

No, I liked it, Reason. Really... I did. It prompted me to FINALLY clear up that "gettin' out of bed" stuff that took on a life of its own.

Mac, neither listening, nor reading, is a skill. Now comprehension, on the other hand, is a skill that is lacking in many.

Really STU, I had no idea that quote was where it was from. Here, all this time, I thought I had came up with it myself. I am not nearly as clever as I thought. I only wish others were that self-aware.
Is that really how forece is spelled?
STU, you're a hoot.

You made a funny, "microphone sniffers", and I LOL'd. If laughing at what you say is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

Any application of the phrase "microphone sniffers" to members of this internet community was done by subsequent posters in the thread: viewtopic.php?f=128&t=33779

Hey Mac, do you think North and Coppock saw Hernandez as one of these microphone sniffers with deep pockets and figured they could take advantage of him and basically get their own sugar daddy? It seems to me like they took one look at the guy and figured he was a golden meal ticket and pretty much fed into his ridiculous webio plan in order to simply further their own possible financial gains.

I wish you would've brought that up with Chet because in my eyes Chet and North are simply con men who got swindled by a better con man.

either way I must say that the I am enjoying this show a million times better than your previous show. But, then again I thought that show was hot garbage so the bar hasn't really been set that high :)

Thank you, Stones give off a slight Ziggy Stardust era Bowie vibe on this one. Can't go wrong with Bowie influence, any era.

Exile is such a great fucking record. All any band ever has to do is try to rewrite any of the 10-12 songs off Exile whenever they make an album.

I was never a huge Stones fan. Don't know what's wrong with me. I like the Beatles. I like Zeppelin. Stones, though, not so much, except "Gimme Shelter," which is awesome.

I did like that "Wake Up" by the Arcade Fire made an appearance on the show today. Great song, great album. Funeral is going to be one of the albums of the decade, I think.

I remember the "Dan Patrick Show"(moment of silence) ............ using that song to death coming out of breaks all the time when he had an ESPN 1000 show back in the day. . Too U2 ish for my liking.

I agree with Mac about the sniffers. There was once a guy on this board who spent too much time trying to find out who I am. He even had his wife join in on the search.

Kissed her at a spin the bottle game in High school and in those days, that was your open to door to asking a chick out. I froze, what can I say. She was nothing like she is now. She was the ultimate prepster, good girl from Winnetka. Who knew this chick would write one of the best albums out there. Too bad she cant sing at all.

Mac, I think it's just a matter of understanding the different "board types" here. Guys like SID and Gloopy say things just to see if they can get a rise out of you - when I distanced myself from the personal line of their comments, I actually started to enjoy some of their shots at you because I think that they weren't all that personal - the shot Gloopy or SID took (can't remember which) where they said your next partner should really enjoy high school football was actually kind of funny. They would stop immediately if none of us on the board responded to them.

There are also some posters on here that take part of a fact, twist it and represent it in any way that benefits them. They hear part of a conversation or jump in late to a post and then falsify or misrepresent the part that they didn' hear or read.

I take a lot of grief for being a huge Mac ALS'r and that's ok - but in all reality I have never been to an appearance - hoping to change that - I have never accosted you in public or never have left you a voicemail, etc. I enjoy you from a distance - not a court ordered distance either - that's more a product of a busy life than a desire not to hang out at an outing. I'd love to hang out with the guys from the board at a golf or softball outing or attend a remote, but time constraints and location have prevented that. I can't very well make it to Joliet after 5 PM then stay a couple of hours and then head back to Hobart, IN. I have a wife that requires a great deal of attention (I attribute it to our age difference) and 10 year old girl.

So I guess my attitude on the board has change to live and let live as far as some of the negative posters are concerned. The way I look at it is if they know what you have been up to, then that means they are listening and feeding the meter - their negative attention then basically turns into positive attention by curiousity seekers tuning in to find out what these guys are talking about. And that means one thing - SAWBUCKS baby! lol.

Yes, Jurk and his little son Jake came down to finally pick up the hockey net I swapped him back in Feburary and sign a Packer helmet or two at Slappyland. Great to see Jurk and meet little Jake. Interesting thoughts from the Good Kid yesterday as he had me laughing my ass off.

North made a living off these types, or off his close association with these types. If I recall the folk tales, he walked into Mason's office in New York wearing a Sox jersey and wayfarers (not sure about pants) and threatened to leave and take "his guys" with.

My advise to you, Mac, would be to bury the definition and hope that it goes away for good as it may not fare well with people who might want to do biz with the show. I don't think any of the boardies or serial remote goers are offended. It's the potential advertisers that may be turned of the the arrogance of Damaneel. Two major commercial blunders (Meat's dismay by the AB price structure and this) from the show in one week is a tad too much. If I were "The Daddy" I'd be fuming right now.

Sorry, to come across as lecturing, just thought this stuff is worth stating as I genuinely wish the show to be a success for the years to come.
